  1. how is a shift like? 12 hours-8 hours? we get an assignment?.. or we can see anyone? how scary is to be with these inmates in a MAX security facility? let me know as much as you can write, Im getting pretty curious about it!
  2. I'm considering a job as an RN at San quentin... can you tell how is it like? what's a block and what's the difference with a clinic? any inside info will be greatly appreciated!
  3. Just found out that I passed!! I'm a RN, BSN!!
  4. I wrote all over that thing, even before I started, all my labs, and also had 2 math questions..
  5. this wait is killing me.. anyway, im seriously convinced that I failed!
  6. 30 views and not even one reply.. c'mon people say something..
  7. Hey guys, I'm convinced that I failed. I got the last 3 questions wrong for sure, and the last 2 questions were knowledge-based questions (below the border) and got them wrong. Got 120 questions and shut off. got 2 math questions, like 3-4 select all that apply, 5-7 med questions... what do you guys think?
  8. Hi guys, I just took my exam, got 120 questions, I'm almost convinced that I failed because my last questions were knowledge based questions, and I know I got them wrong... Anyway, my test was horrible, I wasnt sure of any of my answers, it wasnt at Kaplan level, it was much harder for me. Anyway, now I've had a couple of crying spells, and I'll be taking my benzo tonight, so I can have some sleep.
  9. guys, I got 120 questions, I'm 98% convinced I failed. I got two knowledge level questions as the last ones, and I know I got them wrong. The one before that one, was a priority question which I probably got it wrong as well. what do you guys think? I got 2 math questions, about 3-4 all that apply, a couple of questions of some meds that I had no idea, and priority questions...
  10. how do you answer the last question properly and strongly?
  11. I'm in the SF Bay area, and it's normal for a new grad to start at 40-42/hr, then at 6 months you get like a 1.50 raise, and again at one year. So at the 1 year mark people make around 45/hr. I have a friend working at ICU, new grad started at 51.50/hr.
  12. I will be living still with my parents. I wanna pay it off in 1 year. I owe around 32,000 right now.
  13. oh ok. I guess if UNLV calls I will ask them to withdraw my application. I owe too much money having gone to a private university in the Bay area. THere is no jobs here for new grads here! thanks for the info out
  14. Unfortunately, my student loans have SF levels. I will not make it just earning 24/hr.
  15. that's considered good? OMG, here in SF bay area a new grad starts in between 40-50 dollars/hour...
  16. I just applied at University of Nevada Medical Center in Las Vegas. I'm graduating in less than 2 weeks, and there is no jobs here in the SF Bay area. The pay is pretty good and we have nursing ratios, but there is no jobs for the new grads coming out of local schools. If I find a job here, it'd be average of 40-50/hr, what's the new grad salary at University of Nevada Las Vegas? thanks a lot for your responses beforehand Omar
  17. thank you, it gives some hope to find a job... I'm actually right now off to a couple of hospitals to complete my application with extra stuff they want.. im crossing my fingers..
  18. It totally sucks! I'm also graduating in less than 2 weeks, and out of 50 people in our class probably less than 10 have jobs right now. I've applied in the city, south peninsula, east bay and nothing. I speak 2 languages, have a summer internship experience at UCSF, and I'm a veteran, and nothing... It's true. There isn't essentially a nursing shortage in Northern California anymore, well at least for new grads. All positions have filled up! I can't believe that 3 years ago, when I started the program, they told us that we will have no problems finding jobs and that we will have whatever we wanted. It's depressing.. I don't know what to do at this point
  19. with this salaries in NY, I might as well just stay in California, where I can start at 42-50 dollars and hour
  20. thanks a lot graceland. I will be applying to NYU in a couple of months since I will be graduating in May. Is the difference of 1,600 between a BSN and AAS a month or a year?
  21. Can anyone direct to any updated information that deals with the nurse-patient ratios in the state of NY. California is the only one that has a maximum of 5 patients per nurse per shift. THe most majority only have 4 and you are open for an admission, which does not usually happen. I can't believe that the state of NY does not have this ratio. What is the Board of Nursing and the unions doiing to solve this problem, I hear stories that RNs in NYC have 10-12 patients per shift. How can you deal with that? How could keep yourself mistake-free when u administer medications, and care effectively for your patients. thanks a lot for any replies to this concern. I will be moving from SF to NYC this summer as a new grad, and Im terrified!
  22. thanks elizabells, I learned my lesson.
  23. I know I made a mistake, by giving in to the pt. demands... I won't do it again ever... but my conscience is getting the best of the sanity I have left (going thru finals). any help will be appreciated..
  24. I'm a nursing student, and I had a situation when my pt. was having 15 meds at once. He bumped into my arm as I was handing them the cups, and some pills fell on the floor, I picked them up, and I was going to replace them, but he insisted to take them. So he did. He is a Physician assistant btw. thinking back I would probably not do it if it happen in the future, but I feel bad for doing it now. Please advise
