  1. Hi jdevales, I am a new grad nurse (originally from Southern California, went to school in Washington state) and I'd recommend trying to get into a burn unit during your senior practicum if at all possible. I did my senior preceptorship at a burn ICU, but even with this, I was not able to get into the burn ICU that I applied to here in SoCal. If burn is indeed your passion, you may have to be open to moving out of California. As far as your age, I believe it is against the law for them to ask your age. Additionally, your GPA will be helpful, but the California job market is so saturated with highly qualified applicants with high GPA's, your direct connection to, and passion for the field of burn care will help probably more than the GPA. In my case, I applied all over the country, and found a burn unit that placed more importance on my senior preceptorship experience than a super-high GPA. Maturity tends to also be an asset in this area, given the emotional complexities of burn patients and their families. I wish you success in your program and in your pursuit as a burn nurse.
  2. lol. I see you've kept the snowball analogy going!
  3. I got the rejection email this morning too. This is so disheartening
  4. I'm curious if any non L&D applicants have heard back from Sharp yet?
  5. I've been avoiding the board because of my crazy anxiety but mine also only says "submission received". Coriander or ExPharmaGirl...anything different show up for your status?
  6. The packet was in my email this afternoon. Now to attack that letter of intent...
  7. Indeed. And on to the others we go
  8. Is the packet emailed? Haven't received it yet.
  9. in the puddle here, no magic email. Good luck to the snowballs who made it to an interview!
  10. Count me in. Its nice to have someone on the board who's already done a few of these and can tell the rest of us to calm down and wait :)
  11. Does this mean its still pretty much a snowball's chance in hell? lol.
  12. Not sure if I should be getting excited about this yet: " Your application has been reviewed and is being considered for our current openings." Any veteran applicants have insight?
  13. They had 3 SICU and 1 Burn ICU for a total of 4, and they had about 1600 applicants from what the recruiter told me. Is it just me or is that an outrageous # of applicants???
  14. Hi everyone, thanks for posting the extra info. The position was posted for internal candidates on Sept 5th (I saw it on the top of the posting), but even with 500 applicants, the odds sound better than the ones for UCSD. Good luck and thank goodness its a bit of a shorter wait for interviews.
  15. we need a tumbleweed icon cuz that's what it feels like is happening with them. lol. no news here either.
  16. Wondering who else out there applied to the Palomar new grad program in San Diego? The application went up at 7 this morning, and I just checked at 11:45 AM and its already disappeared. Good luck to those applying. Lets comment and commiserate :)
  17. Hi Rast, I'll be applying this time around too, and wondered the same thing. I hope some of the successful new grads that got the positions of their choice will respond and give us newbies some great advice!
  18. Spoke to recuiter -------- again today. He said that the units will be looking at the apps and calling potential interviewees during the first 2 weeks of September. Spoke to BICU manager earlier in the week, she said "we won't be interviewing till the last couple weeks of Septemeber". hmm...ok.
  19. suzq, did your friends all go into the Scripps program or other ones in SD? Pharma, welcome and thanks for posting!
  20. Just got my official rejection letter. Anyone know who we should contact for feedback on our application and how we can improve it for next time?
  21. Hello fellow new grads! I'm starting this post to round up all the applicants for the 2013 cohort at Scripps in San Diego. I called HR today and they were rather tight-lipped about when the application would post, and was told "It will post in about 30-45 days" and to "keep checking the website". Enlightening, isn't it? Also to those who applied for the last round and will be re-applying, any tips you want to share for us newbies? thanks and I look forward to hearing from everyone that's just as stressed as I am.
  22. I wonder if UCSD calls or emails to schedule interviews? Anyone know?
  23. Thank you! I did my senior practicum at a combined BICU/PICU here in Seattle, but want to move back home to SD now that I'm done with school. I'm applying all over southern california though, cuz I'd really prefer to be in the ICU. Was your peds burn unit in California?
  24. Not sure if anyone is still following this for the next round, but any clue when Kaiser SD will be posting the next new grad program? thanks!
