  1. Hey guys, Im a new nurse just starting out on the Cardiac/stroke IMC floor at my hospital. Im on my 5th day of orientation and so far Im feeling VERY INCOMPETENT!! I work with a really great nurse. She's been a nurse for about 25 yrs. She's very supportive, BUT when we are caring for our patients I have SO many questions, and when she answers them I truly feel DUMB! Im supposed to take my first patient by myself next week and I am NERVOUS (an understatement). All I can think of is....what if my patient codes because of a mistake I make. I know a lot of ppl always say its "normal" but i dont know. Im very insecure at this point. I feel like nursing school didnt teach me ANYTHING except the basics!! Any advise from those of you who survived through the very very beginning?!
  2. I HIGHLY recommoed it. I took NCLEX 3 times and failed. Took the HUrst review LIVE course and passed on my 4th attempt!! Its AWESOMEEEEEEE! :)
  3. I used the NCLEX 4000, LaCharity Priority and Delegation book, and the Hurst review Q bank to do all my practice questions!!
  4. Thanks everyone!!! I found out today that I PASSED!!!! God is AWESOME!!! :)
  5. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I took it, and I HIGHLY recommend it to EVERYONE!!! I just took my NCLEX-RN Tuesday and I got the GOOD pop up!!! :) Happy studying!!!
  6. Hey guys I just wanted to share my journey with the NCLEX-RN. Im writing this to encourage EVERYONE!!! Hope it helps.. Well, I graduated in August 2010 with my BSN. Took the NCLEX in September 2010 and FAILED with 265 questions. I was hurt, but I shook it off. Took it again in December 2010 and FAILED with 75 questions. I walked out of there KNOWING I failed. =/ I decided to give it another try in March 2011. Guess what...I FAILED AGAIN with 85 questions. By this time I became depressed, frustrated, angry, hurt, etc etc because I was not understanding WHY?! I studied, I focused, I thought I did everything right. I began to doubt myself and my ability. I talked down on myself saying that "I wasnt meant to be a nurse, I cant possibly pass this test". I even started looking at other schools to get ANOTHER degree and become a teacher (which is not what I wanted to do at all). I pretty much began planning my life to be something I DID NOT want to be, but I was desperate to have a "career" in SOMETHING and I REALLY needed money. Well, I started applying for random dead end jobs hoping to land one just to have some money in my pocket. I dont know why, but I applied to jobs at the hospital as well (I cant stay away). Fortunately I got hired as a unit secretary at the hospital. I was very honest with the supervisor and let her know that I had my BSN, failed the NCLEX 3 times, and that I only applied for the job because I was desperate for money. To my disbelief, she was VERY encouraging. She told me she would not let my degree go to waste, she would not let me give up, and that she was going to do EVERYTHING in her power to help me pass that test. I brushed it off, because I really had NO FAITH in myself and had settled for letting my degree go to waste. BUT she stayed on me. She offered to pay for me a review class and she did! I can truly say that meeting her was the turning point. She encouraged me everytime she saw me at work. She sent encouraging cards in the mail almost every week. All of this made me FINALLY reschedule my test. I took my test Tues (June 21, 2011). I got 265 questions (about 40 SATA, 15 medications, and a wholeeeeee lot of "who would you go see first"). I checked pearson vue and I FINALLY got the good pop up!!! :) Its been a LONG rough, painful, roller coaster of a ride but NOT GIVING UP is the key. If I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!!!!! Here's how I did it: 1. took the HURST review course (it was AWESOMEEEEEE!!! I highly highly recommend it) 2. did 100 practice quesitons a day 3. PRAYED, PRAYED, and PRAYED!! 4. wrote my name and credentials EVERYWHERE. (ie. Erica RN, BSN). Wrote it on the mirror, on paper, on napkins, corners of the newspaper, in my bible, in books, etc. ANYTIME I had a pen in my hand...I WROTE THEM (weird I know, but it helped lol)!!! I Spoke it into existance!!!! 5. surrounded myself with positive people 6. I DIDNT GIVE UP (even though I wanted to and attempted to)!!!! No matter how many times you have to take it....YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!! If a nurse is what you want to be, a nurse is what you WILL BE!!! It took me 4 times...but TRUST ME, its ALL WORTH IT!!!! It makes my victory over the NCLEX feel 4 times SWEETER!! :redbeathe Blessings to EVERYONE!!!!!
  7. Congraulationsssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!
  8. Just be honest with your employer. You will be surprised at how they respond. I know it seems embarrassing, but they will respect u more if u r honest with them. They may even be willing to work with you as far as lietting you work as a patient care tech while preparing for ur next test. ALSO, they may be willing to give u more resources to help you pass the next time. I say this because I failed my nclex-rn 3 times. I was so bombed out and discouraged. BUT once I pulled myself together, I applied for a job at the hospital as a secretary. Im "overqualified" for the job, but during my interview I told the supervisor that I graduated with my BSN, took the nclex 3 times and failed, am really discouraged, BUT I really needed the job (for money). She said she wasnt gonna let me give up and that she would do everything in her power to help me be successful. SHe hired me, and I started working...she asked me everyday "have u signed up for the test" lol Im like...NO Im too nervous. Well, she ended up paying for me to take and nclex class (hurst...free of charge for me). Made me schedule my nclex, and offered me a nursing job after i passed. :) She had SO much faith in me. I just took my nclex tuesday..im currently at work and I just checked pearson vue and got the GOOD POP UP!!!! I cannot WAIT to share the good news. :) I say all of that to say...BE HONEST!!! God has brought u this far and He wont leave u now. U never know how much they will be willing to work with you. Pick urself up, regroup, and move forward. It will be worth it!!!! Blessings..
  9. Congrats!!! God is good!!! :) thanks for sharing and for the encouragement!!!
  10. Thanks guys!!! I think I will go with Hurst. Your posts have been really helpful. Good luck to you [M.S.LVN]. May you have GREAT success on the nclex. I pray you send us good news on your passing. :) and also CONGRATS to you [CrazyGoon]!!! I know you're excited about passing. I hope to be on the other side SOON!!
  11. Hey guys, Ive taken the NCLEX 3 times (with no reviews, just practice books) and a failed each time. The last time I took the test was Dec. 9, 2010. I Have been taking a break from the test, from reviewing, from EVERYTHING just to clear my mind and regain my confidence, bc failing this test 3 times was AWEFUL. BUT Ive recovered, refocused, and Im rejuvenated. =) Ive decided to take an online review course this time, so I wanted to know if anyone who has taken KAPLAN or the HURST review courses has any feedback about their experience. OBVIOUSLY Kaplan costs more, but Im willing to pay for whatever. I have a friend who took Hurst and passed, but thats all I know. Anyone have an idea or recommendations?! It will be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!!
  12. THANK YOUUUUUUUU! You guys have really helped me. I appreciate your feedback!!! =)
  13. Thank guys. I was thinking the same thing, BUT a couple of my classmates said that since its a "disaster" I would send home the least stable patient...the one who would most likely die in order to give those who have a better chance at survival the bed. It always confused me.
  14. There is one type of question I get confused on all the time. I have asked some of my classmates how to answer it, and Ive gotten sereval different answers. I just need clarification, if anyone can help (or understands what Im asking lol) The question is along the lines of: There is a disaster that has happened and they give you 4 different patients in the answer choices. You need to free up a bed in the hospital and you have to decide which patient to send home to free up the NEEDED bed!! I always get confused as to whether you should send home the MOST stable or the LEAST stable. =/ If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. THANKS!!!
  15. ..... will you email the med sheet to me as well. or someone who has it. :) thanks
