  1. I've prioritized my nursing diagnosis according to Maslow's. 1. Ineffective tissue perfusion r/t high blood pressure 2. Chronic confusion r/t disease process 3. Functional urinary incontinence r/t cognitive disorder 4. Fear r/t sensory impairment, separation from support system in a potentially stressful situation, unfamiliarity with environmental experiences 5. Disturbed sensory perception: auditory r/t alteration in sensory reception, transmission, integration 6. Risk for aspiration r/t impaired swallowing We've of course been taught a 'risk for' diagnosis is never high priority since it's only a risk for. Any input if you'd change any order would be great. We're forming a care plan on the top three nursing diagnosis.
  2. Thank you! That's what I thought, but I was confused as to why it's listed as a r/t in the NANDA.
  3. I'm working on my care plan right now and one of the medical diagnosis was Alzheimer's dementia. After looking through my Nursing Diagnosis Handbook at the NANDA I came up with the nursing diagnosis: Chronic Confusion related to Alzheimer's disease. Now my question is I thought that Alzheimer's disease was a medical diagnosis, so we wouldn't be able to use this as a "related to" but it's listed in the NANDA. Can anyone clear up my confusion? Thanks!
  4. I'm in my 1st semester and during the first 8 weeks I spent an extra 3 hours a week when we had a skill check off (NG tube, foley cath). Now that we're in our second 8 weeks and are beginning clinicals we don't get the "extra" time in lab every week anymore. We'll just have the time we're in the lab for class which is 3 hours. I really utilize the video's and the book, very helpful!

Thanks! We were required to buy the Ackley Nursing Diagnosis handbook.
  6. I can most definitely relate! When I'm not at school I'm busy at home studying. I had prepared my husband before I started that nursing school was going to take over my life and I needed him to understand. He's been great he knows I'm usually busy on the weekends with what he refers to as "my nose in my book." I honestly can't remember the last time I really did something "fun" needless to say I'm looking for to Christmas break. As for family and friends they all understand I'm busy and if they really care about you they will understand. Just remind yourself at the end it'll all be worth it!
  7. We're about to begin clinicals and I've heard that it's helpful to buy yourself a careplan book & PDQ's (small quick reference). Is there any books or materials that you've found helpful for clinicals?
  8. Yes, thank you! & thank you for the site!!
  9. I'm having problems with setting this problem up, if someone could point me in the right direction with how to set this problem up I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not looking for the answer just a guide to get the problem started, thanks! You have 160 mL of Kaletra in an oral solution. Each mL contains 80 mg of Lopinavir and 20 mg of Ritonavir. How mg of each medication is the patient getting if provider prescribes 1 tablespoon daily?

There is a website affiliated with our textbook, but it honestly doesn't help much. It just has an outline of the chapters and answers to question asked in the book. No games or slides, which would be extremely helpful in my case.

We've already taken two lab tests and i've done great so far on those! We are about to take our second lecture test this week and i've really been struggling with the lecture tests. I've been reading through the chapters, taking my own notes, and then taking any addition notes from the teachers lecture. Does any one have any advice or any websites they have found helpful for the lecture portion?
  12. I have came across this problem myself. The cheapest I have been able to find is between amazon and barnes and noble or once in awhile from half.com Most of my books I also get through Barnes & Noble. Does becoming a member have any other benefits besides that?
  13. It depends on the type of class if it's a math or science i'd prefer to take those on campus. If it's anything except for those two subjects i'd rather do online. As long as you keep up with coursework I find it pretty easy.

Sorry for that! Since you applied or started the pre-reqs :)

How long did you have to wait until you were able to start your nursing program?
  16. I'm needing a little guidance with a few problems i'm not sure about. We're using the factoring method and i've factored them but maybe it's just me but it didn't seem right. Order: Dalmane gr. ss po hs Supply: Dalmane 30 mg capsules Amount to be given? 1 cap x 60mg/30 mg x 1 gr = 2 capsules Order: Atarax 30 mg po bid Available: Atarx syrup 10 mg per tsp Give how many tab(s)? 1 mL x 30 mg/ 10 mg = 3 mL All the other problems I felt great about but when I went back to these two I felt as if I was missing something, not sure? There is one last problem I solved and i'm positive the answer is right but the second part threw me off. Order: Codeine gr 1/4 IM q4h prn Codeine 30 mg per mL is on hand in a single dose Carpojet syring. How many mL would you administer? How many mL would you waste? I came up with administering 0.5 mL For the waste part I first came up with 29.5 then going back over I came up with 0.5 mL which i'm almost positive is right just need a little reassurance i'm doing it correctly! Thanks in advance for any help! I'm not asking for anyone to solve the problems for me, I just want to make sure i'm in the correct path of doing the problems :)
  17. Yes it does!! I should of relized v was standing for a roman numeral. Thanks!!
  18. I've looked throughout the course documents and couldn't find what this abbreviation meant and what it was equal to. Gr. v = mg From what I found online, Gr. = grains and v=volume and Gr. v = 30 mg? And when it would say Gr. 3 = ___ mg It would be asking 3 grains is equal to how many mg? I hope this sounds correct?

After reading all your encouraging words about 5 week classes i'm feeling good about my decision to go with it. Thanks everyone!
  20. Awh!! Thanks... I actually have a friend who just gave me her's today. But thank you for the offer!! :)
  21. I'm going to be taking a 5 week A&P I course this summer and wanted to look into getting some more helpful material before class started to help myself get a little head start on class. I've gone through a number of older threads with A&P information, a lot of people mention a coloring book is something good to help. Is there anything else you would suggest? Any good helpful books/study guides and barnes and noble?

Thanks for all the replies! After discussing it with husband i've decided to go for it. He'll deploy right before I start the class and i'm not working right now, so I should have plenty of time to study without any distractions.

Great minds think alike! Since you've already taken A&P I would you take it in a 5 week period? Good luck on deciding if you want to take yours in four weeks!
  24. CASM replied to CASM's topic in General Students
I've taken the class once before over 5 years ago so it's been awhile. I'm having to take it again as it's over 5 years old and the NS requires it to be less than 5 years. Not sure about the tutoring and I don't knwo anyone else taking it.
  25. Curious to what any of you think of 5 week classes? I was hoping to complete A&P I this summer and they are only offering a 5 week class. I'm a little nervous about cramming all that information in 5 weeks and doing well with it. I will also be taking a Biology class but it is a 10 week class. Any advice? I need A&P I in order to get into the nursing program I was just hoping i'd be able to take it this summer instead of waiting till the fall.
