Hello, I have been an LPN for seven years and will be graduating with my RN May 2013. Does anyone know if compensation is granted for the years as an LPN or will I be consider a new grad with new grad pay in Richmond, VA.. Thanks!!!!!!!

Colleen 1978 How did you complete the periop course? Was it offered by your college, hospital, and what were the requirements? Any information you provide I would greatly appreciate it. The OR is my dream job. I can't see myself doing anything else. Congratulation!!!!!!!!

Good day ALL! What care plan book to you use that offers all information need to write a care plan?

So, I am so completely content in my full time day shift position as an LPN, but I also have the feeling I could do more. The fact that those feelings are present should be your motivating factor. If you dont follow your dream you will always wonder what if! I have been an LPN for 15 years. I love what I do. I also know I can do more. I guess my issue is- do I want to continue in nursing or not? Love is a strong emotion especially for nursing its one of the best qualities to have in this arena, if you love what you do why not continue. I live in a small very rural area. With my years of experience, I would take a big pay cut as a new grad RN, That was my thought process too until I did some research because we are lpn's we do not fit in the category as a new RN grad! Alot about that topic can be found on this website about the comparison and pay for us. I believe we are compensated as follows for every two yrs as an LPN = 1 YR RN experience. That's the info I found on this site but you could always be proactive and call human resources and inquire. I would have to commute an hour or better to school, I would not get a full time position like I have now as a new grad. Stay on the positive side of things! Hard work always pays off! And you must believe that you will obtain a full time position! Positive thoughts brings positive results. You can do anything you put your mind too. But, yet- I know I can do more than I am. Thats what you stand on! Use that fact as your determination to accomplish your goal! You know you can do more! Go for it the sky is the limit! I guess I feel torn... My goal when I was young was to be a forensic pathologist. then i got married, at age 20. I am 44 now. Same distance to school if it is for nursing or to a university for a Bachelors degree... Or do I just enjoy what I do, and my life as it is.... or heck, I dont know? I am so dang torn... Thanks for reading... The fact that you took the time to post tells me your leaning towards following your dreams and I say go for it! Everyday above ground is another day to get it right! Think big! Thank you so much for your reply! I am currently working nights and love the peace that it brings, however its taking some getting use too. I am not one too complain I was frustrated about work and school. This is my first semester back into the world of nursing school learning to think like the text book and not the real world has been tuff but because of my faith I will remain strong and focused. I am in my first semester of lpn-rn program. I work full-time in substance abuse, supervise a 16-bed detoxification unit the only medical professional on staff, 24/7 call. Its alot! Ive been here for 6yrs. my boss is in recovery with control and power issues but I've endured. Now school is my first priority. I am a single parent of two 11 and 3 (private school) that requires me to volunteer and be attentive everyday. My current schedule Off Monday and 1/2 day on Friday work Tues-Thurs and every Saturday to make up-time. I am mentally drained by the time I get home. After picking up my child from volleyball practice by 6 and putting on mommy hat, homework hat, and house work hat, Wow! I am beat! I am at the point of just wanting to work weekend doubles and be off for the week. It seems that weekend work is less stressful. What would you do? I thought about night shift but getting off in the am taking kids to school then clinicals would I be focused? I have faith and determination to accomplish my goal of finishing nursing school no matter what I just want to decrease my stress level as much as possible. I just want to due my shift and go home and focus on my children and school. I have to work so not working is not an option. Your advice on maybe your working and school dynamics would be great! Tony1790 breathe! One step at a time! As a nurse you know we must Focus on the task at hand. Prioritize your goals. Believe in your dreams and have faith that it will come to pass. One step at a time. Take your leadership skills and guide your mind to positive thoughts. Think positive and stand firm on your ulitmate goals. You will achieve them one goal at a time. Let go of the negativity. When you focus on the time to complete the prereq's, length of program, and your age as negative aspects I can see why your in panic mode. But you must keep your eye on the prize and focus on accomplishing the GOAL!!!!!! Use your negative emotions as motivation to prosper and get the job done!! Hope this helps. Best of wishes! I say have no regrets! The feelings and accomplishment are PRICELESS! Let's not forget the ability to pay them back and when you need a break from student loans just ask them for a forbearance or find a employer that offers paying back student loans as a benefit! lol Kudus to you!

I agree with classicdame yes its worth it to continue with you BSN I live in VA in most job postings a BSN is perferred. I say kudos to you for pursuing your BSN and dont give up because of nay sayers. Hard work always pays off!!

You should way your options! Whats most important, what brings you peace, what comes and goes? Family and time are things you cannot change and are of great value! Don't be concerned about something that may never come to pass! You have to do whats best for you! Go for it the sky is the limit!!!!!!! You will not know until you try.Positive thinking brings positive results!!

Never trapped. I think it's one mindset about the matter. You are what you believe. Having a thankful and grateful mindset towards all things will always change emotions. Nursing is a caring and loving feild, but like everything else it has its faults. Think on those things that bring you joy, wheather it be your health, your ability to provide, your degree, etc. It's so much we can do with our education. Never compare yourself to others, remain positive, think on those things that are pure and ture, never react out of feelings but make wise choices. Complaining and fretting only causes harm.We are all uniquly made with different emotional make ups so only you can determine your destiny! Be Thankful!!!! Nursing is a blessing!!!!!!!

Hello. I think you should turn your fear into faith and believe that you will find a job when you graduate and pass your boards. Positive thinking and belief in your goals I think is the key to success. I also reviewed past post for lpn-RN's and I think we do get credit for being a nurse. One post stated for every two years as an LPN you receive 1-year of RN experience. Hope this helps!
