  1. I like allergy, but I'm growing bored. I miss the excitement of real nursing work. I want to get back into community health. But for the time being, allergy is where I'll be
  2. The EC website never seems to work for me to find a study buddy. Even the "coach" they assign tell you to look elsewhere (facebook, allnurses.com) for a study buddy. What subjects do u have to study?
  3. I'm near staten island. What courses do u have to take? I just failed my A&P But, I'll get through it!
  4. dont worry you will get through. I was the same way. I have scheduled my first exam and just paid for the second. There are ebooks available, go to www.digitaltextbooks.com and you can find almost all of them. Good luck!
  5. Helo: I am looking for someone who is going through the EC program that is an LPN too! I'm scheduled for my first exam Nov 1st and I hope that I pass! This material is outlined well in the content guide, but it would be easier if I could work with someone to study the material together! Anyone out there in NJ/NYC area?
  6. You can get a ereader and thats waaaaaay smaller than a biinder and more discreet! I bought my textbooks from www.digitaltextbooks.com and downloaded them onto my nook. My nook is small enough to fit in my lab coat and I can study anywhere. I had a rep come talk to me about TCN and it's unnecessary to pay them for what you will eventually pay EC for. You still have to pay EC for the exams and you still have to register with EC for the CPNE. Why give them thousands of dollars for binder version of your textbook?
  7. Be willing to absorb alot of information! Allergy and immunology is very interesting! You will learn about the benefits of allergy shots, correlation of seasonal allergies to certain foods, different types of allergy testing. I don't know if your doctor is doing studies on EE (its a esophageal disease caused by pockets developing and causing choking) but that's pretty interesting too. Good luck!
  8. Check out their website. If you have another health related field training you are eligible. Otherwise, you may have to look elsewhere. Good luck!
  9. I really like to take advantage of all the down time I have at work, so I'm trying to utilize as many ebooks as possible! Thanks though....def keep in touch cause I can def use a studdy buddy!!!
  10. OK, so I don't know why anyone would tell someone not to go to school rather it be LPN or RN, but I am an LPN and I have been for 5 years now. I have NEVER had a problem finding a job (and I am very picky, not NH or Hospitals for me thank God). My FIRST job as an LPN i made $25/hr doing outpatient clinic work (no wknds or holidays) and I was able to gain a specialty, gain CME's for free and get valuable experiene. NYC has a BUNCH of jobs and whoever can't find a job in NYC is LAZY or CRAZY. (Not attacking anyone, I'm just saying). I make good $ and I have licenses in both NY and NJ. I passed my board on the first time and I am now studying through Excelsior for my RN. I believe my LPN has given me alot of experience that will make me a better RN and I know PLENTY RN's who don't have half the common sense of LPN's because they don't know how to deal with real life situations. Gaining experience in nursing doesn't just come from a NH or hospitals, it comes from finding a place you want to work and working. That's it. Doing the LPN program helps to give you an advantage to make money and get an opinion on what real nursing is. I originally went for my RN and being on my own, supporting myself and strapped for cash, the LPN program was more convienent, cheaper and more guaranteed for a job. PT RN programs are very far and in between and the PT programs take the same amount of time as the FT programs do. After all, no matter what program you do, it's all depending on your personal situation. If you can afford to take your time and devote to school, go for your RN. But, if your a parent (or on your own supporting yourself) and you need a field of work that will help you get ahead in your life, then do the LPN. There is nothing wrong with doing LPN first! I hope you find the path that works for you. At the end of the day, either program will make you a NURSE.
  11. I agree with the other ladies. I am doing the Excelsior program and I have times where I get lazy, but I remember I have to buckle down and get everything together to finish. How long have you doing Excelsior? How many classes do you need? If you need someone to study with, let me know. I'm doing A&P, Micro and the nursing exams. Good luck!
  12. Have you talked to your coach for advice? I was assigned a coach that helps me navigate through the different things to take advantage of with the school and the courses. Did you already do all your pre-req's? (micro, a&p etc)? I work with a girl who did EC and she said doing micro and a&p helped to get her through the nursing exams. If you need to do any of the other exams (besides the nursing) let me knw cause I'm looking for a study buddy!!! Good luck!
  13. If anyone has any comments on RN's developing a patient's surgical pre-payment amount, I would love feedback. Do your billing personnel usually develop this? Thanks At my job they have surgical MA's who do all the scheduling (I work at an ENT/Allergy practice). What specialty do you work in?
  14. i agree excelsior is the best by far with the free study guides and the practice tests. i looked into tcn and it made no sense to pay them all that money to do the excelsior program! i have also been posting if you want to study for your exams, buy a nook/kindle and go to welcome to digitaltextbooks.com for your books. the bookstore for excelsior has some ebooks available, but digitaltextbooks.com had almost all the nursing books both required and optional. they also have study materials that help. you can also google flashcards for a&p or micro and it should be a free program that has the definitons and study tips. good luck!
