Hello everyone. starting school after 10 years of taking classes it's here. I'm doing a career change from a Travel agent to a nurse. I still want to do both. I own my own agency and love travel. I love the people and selling. I also love nursing iI volunteer in a ERand know it will be different. Am I crazy to want to do both professions. What I do know is that nursing will not be my full time job. I'm in it beacuse I want to help and make a difference. I am fortunate so money is not that much of an issue for me and our family. I have 3 small children under the age of 7. so I want to work twice a month on weekends and keep doing travel during the week. I dont want to feel burnt out and get mean like some of the nurses are in my er. Right now I go in and feel good when I leave I want to keep those feelings. Am I carzy to go to school just for those reasons and to continue 2 professions has anyone else done this? Thanks so much for listening Im in it for the llong haul!

well I have been on since 04 dec. I called yesterday and she said I may be in for 06 but not a sure for 07. The letter goes out in March. So if you do not get it then your not in for that year.

Hi everyone. I am cramming for an exan on Heparin protocol and have a question. When you are calculating the bolus and setting infusion rate, Is the number in millimeters per hour always a whole number ?for example if I calcualted 19.8 m/l do I set it at 20? Also when calculating a weight in kilos for ex 180lb. I get 182.8 kg do I round it to 183? Im confused beacuse the book says rounfdit by 10 kilos. Im so scared beacuse for heparin protocol if you start it off wrong meaning finding out the weight in kilos and your weight is wrong, then the bolus and infusion rate will all be wrong can anyone help me on rounding? thanks so much Donna

Well my question is how dangerous is this and can it pose future problems. Having a consult on Monday. i hear the recovery is just a few days and your back to work. I have no stretch marks just a small pot belly. I weight 145lbs so I feel I can benefit from this and I will be a great candidate for the surgery. What are your thoughts anyone?

For one, I do not feel bad that you have to attend these meetings and that there is a mixed crowd as you wordedit strippers, street people. Well those strippers and street people are there to let you know that you can be there too. They could have been a nurse before they started using alcohol, or drugs. It can happen to you. Also if I was told to go to meetings, I would be in my glory beacause I am not in jail or have lost my liscence for good. Where is your humbleness. Be glad someone like the board gave you a second chance. Also even celebrities use AA or NA meeting beacuse they work and lord knows they can afford any type of professional treatment and are in the halls. Be grateful that being mandated to a 12 step program is all you received. Any treatment will work if you are ready and have had enough.:rotfl:

question. Is the OIG the same as a a list coming back from a background check? Im confused because in my state RI, if you expunge a record and you have to wait 10 yrs or more to expunge for a felony, You do not have to list it as your a felon. sometimes it takes a fall like this to wake us up amd realize how serious addiction can be. Dont let others downgrade you with their words. It is a disease and we do pay for our actions and Im sure you paid enough. Everyone has skeltons in their closet. Some more than others Donna

Hi everyone. I was talking to someone the other day that had to face the BON in her state for something to do with medication passing. She is on probabtion and It will stay on her record for a long time. Liscense is suspended. she said she is better off having a past criminal record vs something on her liscence as far as hiring for jobs beacuse employers look at the Bon charge more serioulsy when it comes to hiring. Is this true?

Dixie Cup, I would rather have a criminal that is a great nurse with a loving heart vs a non crininal who is mean like you and just for the record, My cahrge is filing a false police report beacuse my husband beat the crap out of me again and I called the police but then for the fourth time I got scared and said that I lied and he did not ouch me and the police charged me with filing a false police record. Hi there i know ive asked question or two similar to this, but i am curious to those with a past criminal record have you ever worked in a hospital and did you have a problem getting the job due to your background?Just wondering I want to work in a hospital just weekends so I can be with the kids during the week but wondered if hospitals will not hire someone with a background non violent crime on their record. Im surprised the hospital hired her and gee I think you can sue if you disclose everything up front and they deny you after being hired because of a charge. Its like a deformation of character. Did she have any problems getting into nursing school? Im sorry but they will be hurdles in life but lots of rewards too. Im prepared to explain myself about my past when its time. I hope they have some compassion seeing that I was in an abusive relationship that had plenty of vioelence. If I did not do what he said, he would put gun to my head . Im wondering has it affected your employment status. I know a few people mentioned the had criminal charges on their record and went to board and no problem. Does anyone now work in a hospital or a place where a background check is done and were they approached and questioned. Im just wondering if there will be stumbles fro future employment. I want to work in a hospital >i am hoping to but if I have a charge thats 12 years old. I dont know. Thank you Donna

called Bon again and they said it is right on their website if I need it in writing. It does state that as long as it does not pertain to nursing that it should be fine.If you check my earlier post. I pulled the info right from the website. the writing right from the website regarding convivtions is on it. I an going to print that out just in case with my luck it changes. well as far as the proff. I dont know character refernces. My job of 6 years stating that I have been a good employee. well I called my state BON after spending hours reading their website on crimninal convictions ect. I was told I can take the board just for me to state the charge on my apllication. If it does not have to do nurinsing ex abuse robbery violent crime and 10 years has passed, and I bring in proof of a changed lifestyle, I am fine. They may not even ask me to face the board it depends. Well thats a load off my shoulders because as some of you know I have a charge from 12 years ago. Conspiracy but according to my State and they way I pled, I am not a convicted felon and I do not have to put down that I am but the aplication states all covictions misdeamor or felony so I have to put it downn. I feel better but just embarassed that I have to explain this for the rest of my life.thank god I have gotten away from ex husband and away from the abuse.If I had not met him I would not have gotten in trouble. Life is so wonderful. Love the small things thanks donna
