Psych interview coming up!
Well, I had my interview today and after a week of prepping, they didn't ask me much of what I prepped for but I took your advice and mentioned my Grandmother and brother and how I help counsel them in crisis etc. etc. There was just alot of common sense questions about how I handled difficult customers (at my old job) or patients at clinical. They asked me to explain a time when I was asked to do something out of my scope of practice and I told her that I declined doing an IV push because as a student we were not authorized to do such a thing. Then she called the Behavior Health Center and asked if she could send me over. I interviewed with the nurse supervisor and another nurse manager and got a tour of the floor I'd be working on if hired. As I was leaving she told me she'd be calling me. I hope she offers me the job

Psych interview coming up!
So when they ask me to tell them about myself, do you think it would be appropriate to mention that I moved in with my grandmother at the age of 13 and noticed that she had issues with her memory within a couple years she was diagnosed with dementia. After I married at age 23, my husband and I continued living with her due to her inability to perform ADLs, pay bills, etc. ect. We took care of her until she passed away a couple years ago. Is that TMI or does that show that I have experience dealing with mental illness? I have a lot of personal experiences with psych pts. but I don't want them to question my mental health...LOLz. I also had a crisis situation were my brother threatened suicide over the phone and I handled that situation also. I do have patients from med/surg floors I could use in sm. examples but I don't know if they'll make a big enough impression. I want to be honest in my interview but how much should I tell them? Of course the grandma thing wouldn't be the only thing, I'd include normal things about myself also such as my manager job before nursing school and all that jazz. Thanks!

Psych interview coming up!
Hello, I just passed my boards as an RN and I had 3 job interviews for nurse residency programs and didn't land a job . So I'm feeling a bit discouraged. I only have my ADN and I realize I'm going up against a lot of BSNs out there. However, I'm excited to at least have an opportunity to interview for a psych position later this week. I was wondering if anyone knows what to expect during an interview for this position and if anyone had any pointers to help me prep for my interview. Thanks in advance!

In need of moral support r/t corrupt past A.E.B misdemeanor charges
Thanks everyone, Well I went to the courthouse the lawyer that handled the case told me to go to and they could not find the record even with the case #. I went to the police headquarters and asked them to run a background check on me after telling them the situation and nothing came up...so my question is what should In put on my application. Am I putting too much into this? Also I was 22 when I got in trouble...so I don't know. Should I check yes on my application and just write a note explaining everything or what I wonder...

In need of moral support r/t corrupt past A.E.B misdemeanor charges
I am really feeling bad right now:confused:. About 9 yrs ago I got a ticket for marijuana possession (misdemeanor) and back in 1994 I got in trouble for being rebellious and dropping out of high school at age 15. I got a lawyer and everything for the pot charges and I got a year probation and compliantly took Adept classes to get the whole ordeal dismissed. I am heart broken that I have to dig these records up and send them in /c my NCLEX application. I'm now in my 3rd semester and am sooo excited that I'm sooo close to having the career I always wanted. Since all these monstrosities from my past life (as I refer to it), I've became a mom and a wife and do not even think of myself as the person I used to be. Has anyone else had to go through this and were you still allowed to take boards. I'm sooo sick to my stomach over this! I love nursing and I'm so glad to finally make something out of myself! :redbeathe

I have the Stink Gag
I am a 3rd semester nursing student and I am really enjoying it thus far...however, I gag sooooo easily if I smell an offensive smell. When emptying a bed pan to pour into a measuring cup...I hurry to the restroom :idea:so I don't gag in front of the patient! I think the ostomy bags are probably the hardest to not gag in front of ! Do any of you guys have any advice for me on my gag issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Overwhelmed....will it always be like this?
I really only skimmed thru my textbooks for my 1st and 2nd semester of my ASD program and passed both semesters /c a "B". I took notes on my powerpoints and then went back over them later. If I didn't understand something fully, I read about it in my textbook. Trying to read all that material is mind clogging (LOLZ). Some of the other students in my class that actually read everything scored lower on their tests. Also, I found that recording my lectures and listening to them as I did housework or driving to pick my kids up from school..etc...etc. helped alot. You should record the lectures if your instructors allow it.

Upset w/ the double earpiece Littmann Stethoscopes:(
I'm curious as to how many other people are having a hard time w/ their Littmann stethoscopes. I have screwed up B/P in 2 checkouts. I get one more chance before I get a write up. I'm really confident with taking BP too! Perhaps that's why I'm soooo frustrated. Me and an RN who practices w/ the students noticed that there is an inconsistency w/ the B/P results we were getting. At first I would hear sounds much higher than she would. For example I'd get 128/72 and she'd get 114/70. After this happened about 4X we decided to switch earpieces and she picked up the higher systolic pressures and me the lower. With all that tubing I wonder how accurate it is. Oh I brought up the fact that wish they had other double earpiece stethoscopes to use and guess what...they did! They are alot older and known to be "crappy" but on the otherhand me and the RN practicing w/ me got pressures within 2 mmHg apart. She put that "crappy" old stethoscope aside for me when I do my final checkout...Oh I hope it goes well:O
