  1. Hello all! First of all, I am from California, but moved to Florida 4 years ago. I am planning on moving back to California probably at the end of this year. I recently graduated from RN school last year, in June here in Florida. I got my RN license in Aug. I was onleave because I had a baby, but went back to work in October. I started working at a SNF, but in November found a job at a hospital. I work in Tele/PCU, and I love it. Before I was an RN, I was an LPN for 7 years. I was wondering, do you guys think I will have a hard time finding a job back in California? We have no family in Florida, because all my family, and my husbands family live in California. With the baby, we really need to relocate. I am so scared I will not find a job in California because I have friends that actually moved out of state because they do could not find a job. I am currently in BSN school, I will be tele certified, and will be ACLS certified, with 1 year acute care experience by the time we move. I'm just worried about finding a job. Any thoughts would be great! Thankyou!
  2. Thanks Jess84.
  3. Hey Ashley417, did you figure out how to transfer your RN Florida license to California? I am in nursing school, but I am hoping to move back home to Cali after I finish. I am worried that California will give me a hard time to transfer my license. Any advice would be a great help. Thanks! :)
  4. Hey Jess84. I am currently in the LPN to RN program at Galen, I am in the first quarter. Do you have any advice for the future? And do are you planning to move forward with a bsn or msn? Sorry if this has already been asked, but I am curious. I've heard that no school will take Galens credits, so I am curious about other options as far as a BSN or MSN. Thanks!
  5. Wow! I've actually met a couple of those people, and I tell them straight up, that if they are not willing to deal with the "icky" stuff.. don't be in nursing. It's unavoidable. Yes, there are RN desk jobs out there, but really, in order to get those RN desk jobs, you should have some experience first. As an LPN I constantly get spit on, pooped on, I mean, it's expected. You deal with those things all the time that it just becomes second nature. Those things will end up not bothering you at all. And just for her fyi .. CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant.. as in they are there to assist her, not just to wipe butts, or do things that she doesn't want to do. Yes, most of their jobs consist of cleaning up after people, but as a nurse you have to remember that they have more patients than you. If they are with another patient, and your patient just vomited all over, are you really going to leave them wet and dirty until the CNA has time to clean them up?
  6. And to add one more thing.. it might not seem like it, when your busy, but in nursing you are always making a difference in their lives. Even just a smile or a touch can go a long way. Most people need to know that someone knowledgeable and caring are on their side when they are sick, and with that you've made a difference.
  7. Congrats and good luck on nursing school! I would say don't let those posts discourage you about nursing. If it has always been your passion, then it won't matter about the stress, or the patient ratio. I am an LPN and I am a student as well. I have been an LPN for 5 years, and I can still say that I love nursing. I can't imagine doing anything else. I think that if you have the passion for this, and you know that it is what you want to do, then the stress and everything else will be worth it. Just make sure to take a break when you need it, or even step out of the building if you need a break from the stress. I've had to do that a few times. Good luck!
  8. I'm just wondering how you like Galen so far? Is it as tough as everyone says it is? A reply would surely be appreciated! :)
  9. i just took the test for the rn bridge program at galen, do you think that this school is a good school to go to for the rn program? how hard are the classes exactly? cause some of the people out there are sounding like its the hardest program there is. i wouldn't want to go to a school that sets up their students for failure. i am willing to work hard for my license of course, but i wouldn't want to go there if their constantly trying to find faults from their student, and then terminate them. are you planning to go to galen for your rn as well? please reply. it would be greatly appreciated! thanks! :)
  10. Hello All, I am new to Tampa Fl and I am currently undecided on which school to go to. I am currently an LPN. Does anyone know of a good school that is inexpensive, and accredited. I am currently going to South University but they are not going to give me credit for being an LPN, and their BSN program there is 50,000 dollars. That is just too much for me. I am from California and I know of a program there that is an LVN to BSN program and its 25,000 so I didn't want to do that at SU. I heard about Kieser University but I haven't looked into their program yet. My credit is not so hot, so private loans will not work for me. I was also looking at St pete College, because their programs starts 3 times per year as opposed to HCC which is once a year. Any advice? Anything will help. Thanks!
  11. ]Hello, I know that LPNs are hard to get into hospitals here in Tampa. I work at a SNF right now, I moved recently to Tampa too. I have 4 years experience and its hard for me to find a job in the hospitals here. You can apply at Rehab and health Center of Tampa off of Habana (across from SJH). That place hires new LPNs and they have 12 hour shifts if you are interested. Mostly though, you are going to be looking at Nursing homes... sorry )o= .. there are a lot of places to go here in Tampa though.
