Chiflavored, I am not sure if you re referring to the USD (University of San Diego) School or the SD Campus for Azusa? But, with that, I have been to both. I was also accepted to the USD program, but decided although the campus is BEAUTIFUL, the cost was just out of this world. I want to become an FNP and if I pursued that at USD it would cost nearly $200,000 after all was said and done because they only offer a masters in CNL (So I would have to go back for FNP). I too turned down Western for the main reason that it was located in LA and was the longest program of all, so that made it easy to pass up. In regards to the Azusa SD campus, yes its located in a business building. I was kind of bummed about that too because I like being on a "campus", but at the end of the day I decided I cared more about cost and what Azusa SD could offer me. I definitely was torn between attending a school with a "real" campus, but I reasoned with myself that I was able to experience a great undergrad and had my "campus" experience. The Azusa "campus" in SD is still pretty nice. I was able to get a little tour and everything is really new, so thats positive! Its also in a great central location in SD, which I love. Everyone there was very friendly and willing to answer any of my questions or concerns, which is something some programs were definitely lacking. At the end of the day you just got to weigh out your pros and cons, then go from there. I was also able to speak with a current student and she was able to ease my mind a bit, but totally gave me her upfront concerns and issues with the program. Good luck with your decision and I definitely understand your concerns, I was torn for so long when deciding what program to attend.

Kris443 I will be attending Azusa this fall at the SD campus and I too was slightly concerned about the religion factor too when making my decision. I was able to speak with a current student and she said religion is really not a factor during the program, especially being at the satellite school. She mentioned, yes if you want religion to be incorporated into your studies you can become involved in some of the extra things they offer for that, but in general she said it really is not infused into the program too much. She also mentioned there are many other students of different religions that attend the program and they are comfortable and never forced to do anything they don't want. I am not a very religious person at all, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't overwhelming in the program...and from what I can tell they respect those of us who do not wish to incorporate that into our studies. I had a difficult choice between choosing between Azusa and Columbia, but at the end of the day Azusa looked like a great program and was very cost friendly compared to other programs. They are also really trying hard to build a great program in SD, so I think we will benefit from that and their desire to become a great program. Good Luck with your decision!

Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry
Hey! I was on the wait-list for Adult NP. I am still not sure if I am going to go (I put the deposit down). I have gotten into a significantly cheaper program and really trying to weigh the options. I hope you hear something soon about the wait-list, good luck!

Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry
One minute I think I have made my decision, then I go back to the other school lol. The other program makes the most sense logistically/finances, but I had always dreamed of attending Columbia. I moved here last year with my husband on a whim with the intentions of full-filling my dream of living in NYC and attending Columbia, and now that the time is here...I can't decide :/. The cost is just such a BIG difference. I mean our rent here is tripple what it would be in CA. By all means I know we could probably find cheaper rent, but I feel like if I am going to live here, I want to LIVE here and not in a box haha...I am also a little concerned about going to school in NY when I want to end up back in CA...I don't know if it would pose harder to find a job, have you heard anything about that? Are you from the area?? I know I need to decide soon because we have to put in our uniform orders...yikes!

Thanks Myelin! If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to decline Columbia?

futurewh No, its a school in CA. I am so confused, I literally go back and fourth every day. I REALLY want to attend Columbia, but I just can't decide if the $ is worth it. Did you attend the visiting students day? What are you considering when making the decision?

Hey Malzi! Congrats! I will be starting the program fall 2012 in SD. As far as the "interview" goes, I didn't really have one. I had an "interview" over the phone, but all they went over where my completed courses and which campus I want to start at. I was never asked any "interview" questions, but maybe they did for others. All-in-all I would always be prepared just in case to have your basics down as to why you want to be a nurse, but I don't think you need to worry to much about the interview itself. I would always suggest to over-dress than under-dress. Where a typical outfit you would to work. It's always good to show yourself as confident and put together student! Good luck!!!

Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry
Hey Everyone! I was just wondering what made people accept and/or decline Columbia? I am really struggling between Columbia and a school close to home. I know Columbia has an amazing reputation, but I am just concerned/wondering if the $40,000 price discrepancy between the other program I was accepted to is worth it. I have put my deposit down for Columbia, but really struggling on whether or not this is the right decision. Any thoughts/advice? Thanks!!!

Azusa Pacific University 2011/2012 Applicants
Hey Everyone! I too have been accepted into other programs, which makes this decision even harder now! It's almost easier to only be accepted into 1 school haha...then there is no choice! :) But anywho, I am trying to decide between Columbia, USD, and Azusa. I initially dreamed about attending Columbia, but after a lot of thought I don't know if its the best option for me. It cost approximately double Azusa and will require me to stay in NYC an additional 6 months in order for my NP to transfer, which can be difficult being that most new grads have to sign 2-3 year contracts with hospitals for positions and I don't want to live in NY for another 3 years. I also want to live in San Diego and from what I have been told by many doctors and nurses its all about networking, something we will be able to do at our clinical rotations. I have been hung up on the idea of wanting to attend an "Ivy" league school, but in the end we all will end up with the same degree/career...Azusa has a great reputation from what I have read online and is only half the cost of these other programs, so I think that is what will be my deciding factor, money. Most adults in the medical field whom I discuss this with always tell me go with the cheaper program, debt is not worth it. Many of them took out huge loans to attend top medical schools and say they regret not attending a lesser program that cost half the price because they are still working to pay back huge loans and have the same title M.D behind there name is the next doctor who maybe went to a state school and spent half the money. But, money may not be a factor for some...so maybe they don't mind, its just a personal choice I think. I also love the idea of a small class size, I feel as though we will get more one-on-one attention and help. Azusa has also been the best school to always get back to me and answer any questions/concerns I have had. Well..these are my thoughts and ideas...anyone has have any thoughts and what is helping them make their decision? P.S. For those who may not be familiar with SD hospitals, those rotations are GREAT hospitals! Definitely some of the top hospitals in SD so that is very exciting :)

Hey ljy1987! Thats good you still won't be to far from home being from OC, so you can always visit on weekends if you wanted! I am originally from the Bay Area and went to SDSU for my undergrad, and now living in Manhattan. It was always my dream to live in NYC, so i figured until I start nursing school why not haha...but now I will be moving back which I am so excited for! I really miss SD. If you need any help determining where to live let me know, I am very familiar with the area. I definitely recommend living in Mission Valley, which is right where the campus is. I am on Face Book too if you wanted to connect just let me know and I will send you a PM with my info.

Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry
I was wait-listed last year and wait-listed again. I am totally ok with it because I was already accepted into a program closer to home and half the price, so I am very excited!! It seems a little odd though that Columbia couldn't just make-up their mind. Why place someone on the wait-list again, either you like the applicant or not. A little odd. I will be taking myself out of the wait-list pool, so good-luck to those of you on the wait-list and another spot is open :)

Hey Vulupes Although I am not a current student, I have been in contact with a current student so I think I can answer a few of your questions. The class times vary each semester, but typically 2 days of the week you will be in class all day (8-4) and then possibly off 2 days, and then clinical's which can be on the weekend. You start clinical's 3 weeks into the program, so very quickly and yes they are incorporated into the classes. You can work full-time during the masters portion, but depending on your personal life and responsibilities some opt to go part time because it can be very over-whelming. All-in-all in regards to exams and what not she said you really have to in charge of yourself and make studying your priority. Things won't be handed to you and you really have to be pro-active for your own studies and success. Hopefully this helps you out a little :)

Hey Everyone! I was wondering if there were any current Azusa San Diego Campus students out there that would be willing to discuss the program and how they are liking it? Thanks!

Same here, too. I am still waiting to here back from other schools, but Azusa is a top choice. Have you heard a lot about their program? I have tried to research more about it, but can't find to much. I am hoping to go meet with a counselor there and discuss the program, clinical rotations, and just learn more about it. Have you spoken to any prior students?
