i was offered a slot for plant city daytime the monday after orientation. I had a C in algebra and a B in english from PSU, i thought i was going to take a higher math and wait another year. I have orientation august 4th. Imagine being told you didnt get in and then getting a phone call from the nursing dept. after orientation and they tell you they have a vacant slot and ask you if you want it. I was VERY HAPPY. Anyone interested in carpooling from tampa to plant city? I dont have a car and it would be cheaper to just pay for gas than to buy a car.

filed my appeal yesterday, the nursing committee meets on the 4th. what i was told was that if my appeal is approved i will still be placed by GPA. so you will probably not find out your campus until the appeals are decided upon and they actually fill the slots. this also means that if they have 20 alternates and 10 appeals are approved, 10 alternates will get in and 10 will not. my GUESS is that they will not assign campuses until the acceptance deadline is over, then they will have another meeting and assign campuses. alternates will also replace people who do not accept their slots. so if 10 appeals are approved and 10 people do not accept their slots ALL alternates will get in

well there is some good news, when i started at hcc i had only been a FL resident for 8 months and have been paying out of state tuition. you have to be a resident for 1 yr while not attending school to be in state. if i wait till fall i can change my residency status and pay a LOT less/credit. and it is sailing season, maybe i will just sail around for a while if the appeal dosnt work. i was sick in the stomach all day but managed to skip the grumpy phase and move into the lets fix it phase, i must be mellowing out in my "old age". LOL.

you can hand deliver official unopened copies. hcc was sent 2 copies of my military transcripts. the military will only send them to institutions they recognize. the military sent mine to the YBOR admissions office, that is the only hcc address they will send them to. they are somewhere in the hcc system but didnt get into my packet. as they were not requested by hcc until a few weeks ago.

i was denied because i did not submit a copy of my military transcripts. But the military will not send individuals a copy of their transcripts, only institutions. so i am going to appeal, if it doesnt work i will apply for fall or transfer to USF. I already have two BA's from Penn State. I think it was because Penn State gave me transfer credits for military experience and it showed up on my PSU transcript. hcc must think had some type of formal education in the military??? to who ever got my slot, good for you. make shure you guys tell ex-military nursing applicants about this. because the military will not send you your transcripts and you will not be able to include them in your application packet, you will have to send them to hcc and they will have to add them to your application???

I have a 3.58 pre req gpa. want DM campus. I live in south tampa and dont have a car. its going to be a long bicycle ride to plant city, LOL. but i guess i could stand to lose 5#. glad i didnt drive myself crazy over the last 3 months about it, am not checking my mail till tuesday. maybe by then we will all have some good news.

yea i expected a response to the duck tape and MRE wrapers stuff, but that is what we were taught. if you can get it to stick, roll them on their side, and they apply pressure when they should.... they might be able to breath until the MEDIC gets to them. Thank you for being gentile.

when you give someone the answers are you teaching or just helping someone who isnt cut out for the job? we all need help sometimes, and we all help each other sometimes. for some of us we help others more. nursing is about helping people, right? but sometimes you have to cut your losses and help a student find a place in the system where they can help, in order to to save lives. O yea, i am just a nursing student but i was a Scout-Sniper in the US ARMY and have treated sucking chest wounds with strips of duck tape and MRE wrappers ( makeshift flutter valve). have given IV's in the dark, while dragging my brothers to cover while being shot at. Now i am in nursing school with kids, but in my view most of them are worth helping. If not they will be weeded out or moved into suitable jobs. thats just my 2 cents at the moment.
