*calling all recent grads*
I graduated from NIU. Worked as a CNA for 2 years in an acute rehab hospital..I ended up getting a job at there. I interviewed at a different facility and was offered a position, but I turned it down. They then offered more money (because I have brain injury experience). I felt that I would have more growth at the rehab hospital, which is why I turned it down again. I applied to tons of places and no other interviews. It really helps if you have CNA experience so you have your foot in the door somewhere. I also have heard from some HR reps that they won't look at a new grad's resume if they don't have CNA experience.

Aurora University vs NIU
I graduated from NIU. I was accepted in the university and the School of Nursing right out of high school. (My GPA was 4.9/5). My roommate was not accepted till the semester after me. I also had a couple friends who couldn't get into the program. Clinical sites are pretty far if you do decide to live on campus. There is only 1 clinical site actually in Dekalb. I thought the program was pretty good....but its the only one I have experience with.

Can you live a luxury lifestyle as a nurse?
I just received my RN license, but so far, with my CNA license, I will be buying myself a MINI Cooper S (made by BMW) and take a trip out of the country every year and a couple mini trips in the US(this year France and Netherlands and so far Florida, thinking about going to Shanghai too this year to attend the World Expo). I assume that with a real RN pay and then a couple years of experience I can probably do a lot more. But... I have no kids. I rent and have roommates. I can be pretty cheap sometimes. My main goal in life is to travel so I cut corners where I can in other aspects of my life..."The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page"
