Saunders vs. Kaplan
Kaplan is supposed to be the best...even better than Hurst. I have both. Well, Saunders, Kaplan, Prentice Hall, and Hurst. Kaplan is what I used to review for HESI- RN Exit exam and I scored in the 1000's (850+ required). It has been said that HESI is a good indicator of NCLEX...I hope so!!!! Thanks Kaplan.

After tests, lectures, caremaps, etc you will feel like "what the heck was that?", you may hear a lil voice inside saying this is way too hard....BE STRONG & DON'T GIVE UP. Good Luck....I AM OUT OF THERE MAY 2011 with 103 octane in my tank...lol

Nursing Diagnosis Prioritizing
Be it, your client is on IV Abx, 4 at that, I would evaluate the labwork prior to making infection a priority ND. It could be 1, but not a priority...of course, if his labwork indicates compromise in the immune system, then most definitely it should receive higher priority. So check your labs...keep in mind, an abundance of abx can also cause a superinfection which can be masked...THE MYSTERY OF SCIENCE...LOL...Good luck...

Psych Nursing assignment re: what to do for gay 16 yo male who attempted suicide
Make a contract with the pt stating that if he has any urges, thoughts, etc to harm himself he will notify you or staff. Of course, EVERYTHING mentioned above ESPECIALLY building a rapport. Just think, if you were that pt, would you tell someone who is a stranger...why you tried suicide? NO. Think as a pt. You, as a nurse, need to initially identify your own feelings toward gays. You may, unintentionally, display non-verbal cues to pt that you are not accepting of his lifestyle if you don't recognize your own feelings. Once pt can "feel" you are compassionate about him HOLISTICALLY he will open up. I am sure you can build a great paper based on EVERYTHING stated here and above. Good luck.

Nursing Diagnosis Prioritizing
2 things to ALWAYS REMEMBER...ABC's and SAFETY. Circulation should definitely be your first ND. Then, ANYTHING that can compromise his ABC's and/ or safety (if not already present). Hope that helps...by the way, remember those 2 tips...ABC's and SAFETY...VERY important with state boards.
