Rzyzzy, Wow, thank you for such a detailed response. That makes me feel much better about things. I feel comfortable with all you mentioned above, so hopeful to get great scores when I take it in October. In the interim, I will study. Thanks again for the response!

debbiecorn, First congratulations on successfully homeschooling. That is a job within a job. I've heard more and more older adults such as us going back to school for this. Good luck to you in the program. I hope I can be saying I'm starting my program soon as well.

I am preparing to take the HESI exam around 10/1. I've been studying the HESI Evolve book. Others have said the math portion is the easiest. Though the book has roman numerals, and tempreture conversions (0 C = 32 F, and 100 C = 212 F), it doesn't describe how to break down temps. I know there are 2 ways to convert from F - C and vice versa (f -32=(x) /9=(x) x 5 = C, etc. Are these type questions on the exam? I.e. convert 72 F to C? And is the calculator available for these? I've also read know metric. Does that mean just know the conversions? i.e. 1 ton = 2,000 pounds, 1 quart = 2 pints? Since there aren't any type questions for addition, multiplications, etc. for these, I'm assuming just know what is in the book by memory? Appreciate all the help here!

Wow, those are good scores and GPA's to not get in. I'm sorry about that. I thought I would be in the district since I actually live in Belton (next town over), and I work in Temple. But I learned this week applying for other pre-reqs that I am out of district. So I guess I will be in a similar situation. I guess the program is quite competative. I'll just study as hard as I can for the HESI in hopes I get the additional point for high scores, and try to get the rest of my pre-reqs with A's. I can tell you from what I have been reading here, the HESI, Evolve book is helpeful with math, reading comprehension, grammer, etc., but not as completely helpful on the A&P, Chemistry, etc. I found the above link in this thread from earlier. Seems to have a lot of the same information as in the HESI book. Don't be thrown on the many errors in there however. And trust me, there are several errors. So far, I have been very impressed with the information people have provided on these threads. I am hopeful that it will be useful when I do finally take the exam. And even more hopeful I actually get in the program after all of this work. Taking my pre-req's now also. I have a Psy 101 from '96 with a B. I'm hopeful that isn't going to cause an issue getting into the program, providing I get a good score on the HESI, and A's in my other pre-reqs. Best of luck!

Curious to know if any, or all of you got in? I am looking to apply next Spring. I have a few pre-req's 2 B's and an A. Taking a few co-req's this Fall, and the HESI. Wondering what it will take to get in?

Wow Louis, thanks for your question. I'm a 43 year old male. I am only now beginning to think of going back to school to get my RN. I have vere frew pre-req's, and realize it will take me a few years. I've been debating. After reading your delima, and the rest of the posts, I am even more confident to go forward. It is never too late. So if you are 32 or 33 when you complete the program, most likely you will have another 25 to 30 years of a career left. Besides, how old will you be in 3 years? The same doing what you are currently doing, or you could have an RN under your belt. But you will be that age regardless. From 1 Louis to another, I say we go for it!

Hi, I am hoping to gather some information here. I have been reading several posts that have offered a great deal of information. I am an older adult (43), who is interested in going back to school and enter the nursing program at Temple College. I'm open to entering in the LVN, LVN bridge or Associates RN program. Ultimately, I would prefer to get my RN, but want to see what the best route is given my specifics. It has been several years since I have had math and english. I havce other History and Psychology classes that will help me avoid the reading comprehension portion of the test. Unfortunately I don't not have math or english, so I will have to refresh my memory of those for the Accuplacer test for admission. Does anyone know how this test is related to the HESI? Or is it much more simple? I'm only interested in passing the Accuplacer test so I can take the necessary pre-requisites. As I understand it, Temple College HESI does not test on A &P, or Chemistry. I have purchased the HESI Admission Assesment exam review 2nd edition. Is this a good book for the test? I've also found through a thread a link from West Coast University with 182 pages of study guide for the HESI, and it looks fairly detailed. Anyone know if this is overkill or not? Another concern I have is regarding critical thinking on the HESI. From what I have read, medical terminology or A&P are used in these scenarios. Would using a basic medical terminology quick reference guide help with this? So my hope is to take the 2 co-requisites (BIOL 2404 in the spring 2011), ITSE 1294 (Fall 2010). Hopefully take the HESI between Oct 1 and Dec 1, 2010 to be eligible for the LVN program Summer 2011. Has anyone done the LVN bridge? I see other pre-requisites are, BIOL 2401, 2402, 2421, and PSY 2301 (already have) and 2314. Has anyone successfully taken these course while in the LVN program, and were ready for the next year RN program? Hoping to find others who are in similar situations, or thinking of some of these things as well.
