UnitedHealth Group - Anyone work for them?
How much hospital experience did you have going into it? I'm looking into working the same kind of at home position. I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it!

CDI Specialist
Well I have my ADN and only one year of experience í ½í¸ I just know floor nursing is not for me anymore. The other work from home option I've looked at is doing something with insurance. I'm still researching to find a way to get into CDI with a credential or course, but there's not a lot out there on how to go from RN to CDI.

CDI Specialist
Thank you! I'm having trouble breaking into it. I have a friend that's in CDI and she's gotten me interested but I'm not sure how to go about finding someone to hire me! I'm an RN with a little over a year experience on a progressive care unit. All the CDI jobs I see want previous experience or a coding certification or CDIP. But to get your CDIP you need experience to sit for the exam! I feel like I'm going in circles. I guess right now I'm just wondering if I take a CDI course if that's "enough" experience/training to be hired. I'd hate to shell out $$$ and not get a job.

How did your interview go? I've also just found this mysterious world of CDI.

Central Indiana Nursing jobs without RN experience?
As long as you can network and aren't afraid to call/email around, it's not hard. I graduated the end of this past July and many of my friends have nursing jobs. You can't be too picky though, unless you've got a few months and people on "the inside." Do you have your BSN or ASN? A lot of hospitals around here prefer BSN's, like most everyone else these days. Best of luck in your decisions and job search!!

Traditional BSN vs. ADN to BSN
I've just graduated from Ivy Tech Indianapolis! I worked as a PCI with IU Health for a year while finishing school, and am anticipating an offer for a job on a med-surg floor I LOVE! Here's the dealio. Starting Jan 2013, IU Health will begin hiring BSN's over ADN nurses. And if you are able to get on as a nurse with an ADN, you have to sign a contract saying within 5 years you will earn your BSN otherwise they have a right to pretty much fire you. But that's just IU Health :) In my opinion, it was way more worth it to go for my ADN and maybe someday go back for my BSN AND have IU Health give me a small compensation! Plus, if you graduate with a GPA of I believe 3.4 or higher from Ivy Tech-IUPUI will give you a $1500 credit/semester!!! I graduated debt-free and plan on staying that way for quite some time til I can afford more school or a house! Best of luck to you and whatever you decide!

instructor says nursing is not for me..
If nursing is something you really want to do, try harder! :) If you think they are wrong, show them. If I understand correctly you're just in your second semester? I sure didn't have the "people skills" polished in my second semester! Don't let what they've said get to you. It's difficult to improve your communication when you only have one patient in clinicals, and it can be awkward! I have a job as a student nurse at a hospital caring for 10-20 patients and that's really what helped me improve my communication skills. Make it a point to practice! At your job, clinicals, class, etc. Patients love it (most of the time ) when you show that you're really there to care for them and give them attention! I make it a point when I first walk into a patients room to spend at least 5 minutes in there taking vitals, doing I&O's, and talking with them. You're obviously good at the book-smart part of nursing, why should you quit just because someone thinks you don't know how to talk with people? Tell your pts they are your #1 priority for today and ask what you can do to make their day better. Make yourself available, tell them when you will be back to check on them, etc. Practice, practice, practice! Good luck :)

How in the world did you decide?
Even before I was accepted into nursing school, I knew I wanted to be in OB/postpartum! I've loved it *forever*! Problem will be finding a job in that area...I'm even looking to apply in hospitals an hour away from where I live for my student externship just so I have a shot at a job right after I graduate. So I would say, wherever you find a job!! But if there are lots of choices wherever you live, lucky you! :) Goodluck

best book to study for the teas test
If you're taking the Teas 3/4 definitely find the McGraw-Hill nursing school entrance exam study guide and the ati study guide. Go to half.com-you'll find them for really cheap there!! Good luck! :)

Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!
I know at IvyTech in Indiana there are usually less applicants in the spring, but they're getting rid of a few nursing programs at other campuses so i don't think it will be down that much. I'm also applying for the nursing program spring 2011! At IvyTech Indy-Lawrence :) I have 214-223 points. I actually mailed my application today. the deadline is sept 1st and the acceptance/denial letters are sent out on sept 30th! So the countdown begins.... Good luck to everyone!

Applying for Ivy Tech Spring 2011
Haha, I was just asking the same question! I had the exact same score as you! 88. I took the TEAS again and I scored a 91. I definitely think it was worth it! If you go to the same place it is the exact same test, same questions, everything! but I knew that before I took it so I memorized the questions with the extra time I had :) So if you've got the money for it-definitely take it again. Even if the cut off ends up being lower than it was last fall(211) I'll be happy knowing I am higher up on the list. Goodluck! Hopefully we'll see each other at Lawrence next Spring!!!
