  1. I am not a huge fan of Med-Surg either, but at least those patients are fairly healthy compared to NICU eww children...much small margin for error. I thing a lot of new nurses are placed in Med-surg because the chances of harm reaching the patients is much less. Plus, it allows a new nurse to focus on the all important time management. What is to say L&D or NICU may feel just as bad plus those patients are more acute. Why not give it six months and if you feel the same way bolt for the first escape exit. Even in an ICU with two patients you can still get VERY overwhelmed. Hope you find your way!!!
  2. true story: Walked into a room where a triple smart pump went into failure all at once. No big deal? Well the levophed was going through it and the time it took to unload and locate a new pump put the patient at risk. I saw the sbp go from 90 when we entered the room to 50 when the iv was resumed. smart pumps scare me but what can we do?
  3. someone you understands that it is all about the patient!! No ego or any of the other junk!
  4. I am brand new to this site and enjoy exploring... Recently, I have heard the same thing a MILLION times from newby nurses and talking with my fellow co-workers we have a running joke about it. New nurses who say: I want to get into the ICU and go to CRNA school!!! When a student comes to our unit I love to bait them until I hear them express this. If all these students actually went to CRNA school who would be available to perform all the other nursing jobs? It kills me! God love 'em!
  5. Long story short, I sort of had a date with one of the surgical residents where I work. She is a bit younger than me and things progressed at speed of light pace. Little regret at get so intimate so soon, but now I do not know what to do. I like her a lot and she is so beautiful, but I don't want to let my personal life spill over into my work life. I know - a little late now to care about that, but I don't want her attending to know about the budding romance and do not want my co-workers to give me $hi$ over it. How can I tell her to pump the brakes and not be all clingy at work. I have to work with these people and I do value their respect. I still like her, but not so touchy feely at work. Is there hope?
