  1. Hello Everyone! I'm sorry to hijack the thread a little bit My name is Monica and I have all of the textbooks that you will be using during your first 2 terms at ResU for sale! That includes textbooks for Foundations, Health Assessment I and II, Pathophysiologic Mechanisms, Pharmacotherapeutics in Nursing, and Client with Disruptions of Health I. I will even add some handy extras, such as Lippincotts drugs reference book, and lab reference mini book. I'm selling them for less than half of what you would normally pay. Please private message me so we can go over details if you are interested. I live in Chicago, North-West side but it's not a problem for me to meet up with you at a location that is more convenient for you, or at the Resurrection University location. AND CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU FOR GETTING ACCEPTED INTO THE PROGRAM :)
  2. I would say- yes. I know a girl who commutes from Lisle, and one of the professors lives near IL/IN border. It's still gonna take you take you about an hour to get to school, but as I said I think it's worth it. It's 16 months vs 24 or 27. You graduate- you're done. I think it's wonderful that you want to better yourself academically for your daughter. Have you thought about their Evening/ Weekend Program? Many girls who are parents are going with this one, it's one semester longer, but it's not as hectic. Good-luck!
  3. yup yup, it's moving to Wicker Park (St. Elizabeth's& Mary Hospital), it's very easy to access via blue line (near North Ave/Damen stop). Where do you live? If you live in Wicker Park/ Ukrainian Village that would be a perfect location. Hope that helps.
  4. Hey Ajryan! When did you email the coordinator? I know that there is a break starting December 16th but the offices are open till Dec. 22nd meaning that secretaries and stuff are at school. I would call the admission counselor Juan Miranda, he seems like he knows what's going on (I always bug him when I have a problem or a question). Do you know how to access and check your schedule from your student account? All of my classes and labs are in there. Good luck to you and have happy holidays as well :)!
  5. My guess would be 10 to 15, the session is only one hour long and people are probably gonna ask questions, I know I will :) Looking forward to meeting you too :) !
  6. Hi guys! I have my New Student Registration session on Monday Nov. 15th, how about you?
  7. yes, definitely! I want to be a nurse for at least 1 or 2 years before even applying to med school. I just want to see if there will be a "chemistry" between me and patients. If not, I will go into research or teaching.
  8. You guys gonna say i'm crazy, but i'm actually planning to be enrolled at ResU and finish all my pre-med classes at my community college (I'm thinking about med school once I'm done with nursing) AND keep my lab assistant job at wilbur wright. I don't know how I'm gonna do it all, but I'm working two jobs and I'm juggling 18 credits this semester and it's working pretty good, I am still able to get some decent sleeping hours. I'm going to ResU today to give them the deposit and sign up for the class registration :) I'm so excited!
  9. hello everyone :) I need to ask you this because I'm a little puzzled. Do we really need a health insurance? Sure, health insurance is not a bad thing, but I moved here three years ago, I'm struggling to pay my way through college and health care insurance will be a big financial burden. What if I'm registered in one of the free community healthcare clinics? Does anyone know if health insurance is mandatory and maybe you know some cheap students- friendly insurance plans? Thanks!
  10. Hey Imuens! I'm working on it, I had to go to the financial aid office and give them my '09 tax return and fill out worksheet. I'm pretty much set, I think I'll get the financial aid award letter in a few weeks.
  11. Those are all great suggestions! Thank you for your responses! You are wonderful!
  12. Hello everyone! I moved to US three years ago from Poland and I'm about to start nursing school in January'11. I was so happy when I found out that I've been accepted to the program, but right now I'm really worried because my school requires my immunization card. I have my immunization card (I took it with me when I was leaving Poland), it has list of all the vaccines that I've taken throughout my life. There is one problem- it's in Polish. My question to you is- what should I do about it? I don't even know whom should I ask to translate and officially confirm that I took this vaccines. Also, I don't have health insurance. I go to one of the free community health clinics. Has anyone been in a situation like this? I would greatly appreciate any feedback!
  13. I agree with digitiminimi, most of us know about the negative things people say about ResU. I have my reasons to apply there- 16 months program and the perspective of being hired by Resurrection Healthcare after graduation. That's what matters to me the most. I come from community college, so I'm used to crappy teachers and learning most of the stuff on my own with a pretty good outcomes.
  14. Congrats Congrats Congrats !! :) I'm so happy for you all !
  15. Yup, they've told me that I will receive the acceptance letter and all the instructions of what to do next in about 2 weeks. Congrats again, I know how happy you must be right now :) !
  16. Awesome !! Congratulations ! Expect the call today or tomorrow, but it's just formality at this point :) !!
  17. Yup, in my case it went from "Application Received" to "Application Completed" to "Application Accepted" :). You guys seem to be a really smart bunch, so I'm pretty sure that'll be the case for all of you!
  18. Hi Guys! I have a tip for those still waiting for the call from ResU, you can actually check the status of your application on your online account. Before I got a call from ResU staff, my Student Status changed from "Application Completed" to "Application Accepted". Log in to wscn.edu with your username and password. At the bottom of your internet account there should be a link transfering you to "Site Index" click it, and then find and click "My information" under "My profile". You will be able to see the status of your application. If the decision hasn't been made yet, your "Student Status" will say "Application Completed", but if you have been accepted it will say "Application Accepted". Maybe you arleady know this, but I thought that for those of you who don't it might be helpful!
  19. 3.4 GPA and 87 with TEAS is excellent !! I had 86 with my TEAS, some people don't even make 80 and they get in. I really think you are going to make the guaranteed admission, they gonna make calls this week and the next one, so just a little more patience!
  20. Average GPA of students admitted for spring 2010 was around 3.1, even if you are not going to make the guaranteed admission, but your GPA is higher than 3.1 and your science grades are decent, you still have a big chance to be accepted. In that case you are probably gonna find out around November. But let's keep our fingers crossed for the guaranteed admission :)
  21. No problem! I think that hardly anyone is actually done with the prerequisites at the time of submitting the application, especially when it comes to early/guaranteed admission programs. Let me know if you have any more questions.
  22. Hey Summr! Yup, I was in a situation similar to yours! In fact I'm taking my microbio right now, as well as 4 other classes and I got in. I hope that helps to ease your anxiety :) Good luck to you!
  23. Hey llaura! Your post reminded me of the way I felt when I began my first semester in college. I moved to US three years ago from Poland, and at the beginning English language seemed to be a big barrier! I felt so awkward and miserable because of my lack of vocabulary and bad grammar. I remember that I questioned myself- "I want to be a nurse? How my patients and coworkers are ever going to be able to understand me?!"Even though I was able to overcome this difficulties I still pronounce certain words with a strong East European accent. But you know what? I am not shy about it anymore! Even though I know that I may mess up pronunciation, I always try to speak out loud and clear enough for others to understand me, and I do it with confidence. I know that your situation is different. I hope that maybe there is a certain therapy that will be able to help you. Don't beat yourself up, and go for it if you really like nursing! Have more confidence and if you won't make a big deal out of your speech issue than others won't neither notice nor care! Good luck to you!
  24. Hello everyone! First of all, I found out yesterday that I got accepted into Resurrection University's (formerly West Suburban College of Nursing) BSN program. Becoming a nurse has been my big dream and I'm thrilled that it's about to come true. However, what worries me is the (poor?) perspective of finding a job after graduation. I shared my concerns with Admission Counselor at WSCN and he assured me that 60% (on average) of West Suburban graduates are hired by Resurrection Healthcare. That sounds promising, but I decided to investigate. Here is the question to WSCN graduates- Was it really easier for you to get a job at Resurrection Healthcare after graduation? Did you feel like you had an advantage because of graduating from WSCN? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank You!
