  1. Great answer:yeah: I guess ASl wouldn't be the right move to make because where i live there isn't a large deaf community and i would probably end up forgetting everything. I think i will choose to minor in Child/Family development because that is the only thing that really interests me.
  2. I've been thinking about about having a minor to go with the nursing major i plan to have. I just don't know what to choose! I know psychology or nutrition would be very helpful, but i just don't know if those are the minors i want to have. I hops to one day be a peds nurse so would child and family development be a good option? I was also thinking of doing American Sign Language because i have been wanting to learn it for years. I'm not sure that would count for a FL though..
  3. Since i am currently in high school, do i have to make straight As in my science courses to be accepted into the nursing major when i get to college? I think one of my teachers told me that.. Also, am i going to do any hands on work in college? like giving vaccinations, etc.
  4. I'm doing a project for school and I need to know what kinds of classes you take during college if you are majoring in nursing. Do you get to take care of patients and did you have to have an internship? If you apply to a university and they accept you, do you automatically get accepted into the nursing program too? Also, if you have been to nursing school feel free to throw in some info about that too!
  5. And BTW i am going to go to nursing school and be a nurse regardless. My mom thinks i would make a great nurse and she always encourages me so i don't want to throw that away. I just don't want people to look down on me b/c of my speech. One year, during parent/teacher conference, my teacher suggested that i should be in special ed because of my speech. I just don't want that kind of thing to happen again. I get great grades and i couldn't believe my teacher had said that. I guess speech is really important. I don't want to let it get in my way though.
  6. My parents act like it doesn't exist. I don't think they would be supportive of professional help. And if i do get help during school people are probably going to make fun of me. At my HS people are really mean so i don't really know if i can see a speech pathologist now.:grn:
  7. Wow, that was really inspiring! I would like to see a speech pathologist sometime because i do feel like my speech can possibly be improved. Right now i am in HS. Would it be a good idea to wait to see a speech pathologist when i get to college? I feel a LOT better right now! Thanks everyone!
  8. Well, I can communicate but sometimes my sounds are just wrong. For example i can't really pronounce the letter "Z" and the sound "Ch". I just feel ashamed sometimes because of it. I just want to be normal..
  9. First off, i wasn't really sure where to put this question so sorry if this is the wrong place:uhoh3:. Anyways i am extremely worried. I REALLY want to be a nurse but there is 1 thing getting in the way. I have a speech issue. I have had it since i was born. I have trouble pronouncing some sound and i just don't know if i will ever have ANY job. I just feel pathetic. My older brother is going to pharmacy next year and my older sister is going to Med school in 2 years and i don not know where i will be. Any advice would be nice...
  10. ]I know this is a dumb question, but i am kind of confused about this. Is general pediatrics the same as med/surgical pediatrics? What is the difference? And also, in the PICU part of the hospital, are the children normally not able to talk during their time their? I thought allnurses was the best place to ask since their are so many intelligent people here.
  11. That makes me feel a lot better! I am not squeamish when it comes to blood, vomit, etc. I am just scared of genetic abnormalities, body rashes, and tubes that come out of the neck.(like trachs) That is basically it. Great info though!
  12. Background Info: i am 14 and in my first year of HS. My mom is an RN and i am an aspiring RN too. I plan to go to Georgia Southern University and get my BSN. And i wanted to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse, a Pediatric Nurse or a NICU Nurse. The thing is, i saw one of my mom's old medical books sitting on the floor. I thought "Cool, nursing stuff! I can handle this" so i opened the book. I started screaming and i almost threw up! There was a picture of some kid with a genetic abnormality and another kid with some gross rash all over his body including his genitals!!! I literally almost passes out and i have been feeling sick for almost 2 weeks. Is nursing right for me if i couldn't even stand looking at these images?
