  1. Hi, Thank you for your reply. We asked ourselves the same question of why we payed for it ourselves. We are in an internship and going through the rotations, we are full time employees here, so they do pay us to be there. I thought i would like the OR but i have realized that this just isn't for me. Also, dont to complain, but the most of the people there treat us like you know what. And i dont fit in there with their mentality. I also miss patient care. I miss working only 3 days a week. Where i work now, the pay is really low and i am struggeling financially. I work another job on saturdays, which now means i work 6 days a week. I thought i had it all figured out but this just isnt for me. I emailed AORN and they said that the facility purchased our seats...but we paid for it to the accounting department at the hospital. Sorry, i kinda went on a rant here..
  2. Good morning everyone, I am currently taking a the periop course through AORN. Its an internship offered at a teaching hospital. We had to pay the AORN fee of $750 We had a month of didactics and are now in the rotation of the different surgery teams. I really dont like it. We are scheduled to take our test in July to become certified, but i am thinking about leaving the hospital. Could i take the test early? Or, if i were to quit, do i get my money back? Does anybody know?
  3. Good Morning everyone, I have been a med/surg nurse for the past 3 years and its time for a change. I went to a informational session in one of our hospitals about their OR internship and I am intrigued. My first and only experience was during clinicals and I fainted...lol but had the chance of going back in. I have to write an essay on why I want to be an OR nurse in 250 words. here are reasons why: team work, learning something new every day, being a patients advocate in their most vulnerable time and I love a fast paced environment. I just do not know how to start and fit it all in there... Any advise? Thank you guys!!
  4. I know that I told myself that when I get my first paycheck as a nurse, I am going to blow it. My husband was on board with that. We blew it on stupid things, but it felt great. Now, I am paying of bills and put the rest of it in savings. Feels good though...
  5. So, I have been working in a rehab hospital for about 6 month now. I love it and it is my first job after nursing school. I got hired as PRN 7a-7p 2-3 days a week. I also got oriented on all the other shifts, so I can work those if needed. Here is the problem: I live an hour away. Sometimes I get cancelled from 7a-3p and then they call me and say I need to come in from 3p-7p. Believe me, I don't mind working 4 hours, but its the drive. At first it was only happening once a pay period, but its becoming more common. After a while it gets annoying and gas prices aren't going cheaper. I know there is a need for coverage from 3p-7p, since nurses there work 8 or 12 hour shifts. But how do I approach my manager that I cant work 4 hours? Thanks Guys
  6. I was hired in a rehab facility. We have a folder with skills that we need to get checked off on. Every new hire has to do it. We also had a med and drug dosage test before our first day on the floor, but it was nothing major.
  7. Psych has its own nursing diagnosis book...shoot, I can't remember the name since I never used it. Google might be your best bet..:)
  8. The good pop is, when you take your nclex and afterwards you try to register for another nclex test... If you have passed, a pop up will come up and say: our records indicate that you recently scheduled an exam. Another registration can not be made at this time. Contact you BON. If you failed, it will bring you to a page where you put in your credit card info..
  9. Good luck tomorrow! Read one question at a time. Answer it and move on. I was scared, just like you, but you will be fine. I have done Kaplan and scored mostly 60%, I watched all the videos on there. Again, you will be fine!! Good luck!
  10. Me too, and one of my friend...:)
  11. Is there anyone going from Fredericksburg? We could carpool and use the hov lanes..:)
  12. I reviewed my notes from Kaplan, did questions and read each rationale. I stopped 2 days ago cause I was so tired and exhausted...:)
  13. Omg, I took the test this morning and it was scary. I had 75 questions, 20 SATA, 3 EKG, and like 3 drop/drag. I didn't know what to think of that! Went home, checked Pearson vue and got the good pop up..:) I keep checking it but nothing has changed. I am so excited...:)
  14. I am driving to Washington DC to take the test..:)
