A BSN is the "Gold Standard" to me because it is important to me to get a Bachelors degree, in anything! I can't imagine going throught the h%ll that college has been just to stop with my associates degree or no degree at all. You may as well go for one or two more years and get that bachelors degree!

I work as a CNA in KS, and anything having to do with ADL's and assitance with ANYTHING, we don't really need permission necessarily, unless it is out of scope of practice. In my experience, it just takes a family member talking to me to let me know what needs to be done. It is such a busy job, and if someone is listed as independent, unfortunately they will probably get overlooked to save time unless you specifically ask! A good relationship between family and a CNA goes a really long way! And whether you believe it or not, to most CNA's, these residents are as close to family as a stranger can be, so asking for help should be no problem. :) Everyone is saying ask the nurse first, and that is the obvious answer IF the CNA won't respond to you, and if it is something that the nurse must approve. The CNA is the one providing most of the care, and it is sometimes a little insulting to have a family member go to the nurse before they talk to you.

We don't have the whole story, and who knows that the second part of her post was. Perhaps it said his full name and what-not, so then it would be a HIPAA violation. A side note. I think it is ridiculous that employers can follow employees on facebook and write them up or fire them for it. Just saying. ;]

This is so nice. I love being a CNA, but there are so many people who take for granted what CNA's do. No, it may not be the most challenging job in some aspects but it is not easy work! If all nurses could have your attitude, being a CNA would be a lot easier in my place of work. Thank you for your words, I'm going to post them in our break room!! =)

I'm having this same problem. RN and BSN programs accept so few people it sometimes doesn't even matter how great your gpa is. I'm going to do an LPN program and then enter a BSN program at the almost halfway point, so it's a good route, just a little more money and a little more time. The programs I have heard of go only off of your lpn classes grades, so just do well, and that will help get you there. And. I don't at all fault you for not wanting to be an LPN long term. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do something more with your life than stay an lpn when there are better jobs out there. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with lpn's, and when they take it this way it is only due to their insecurities. Good luck, and don't let the haters get you down!! :)
