  1. There is no rhyme or reason how the nursing schools accept students. I don't really understand it. I scored a 79 on the Teas, 94 on the HESI, (with an 880 on Critical thinking-which IMO is very very important on getting in to UT). GPA 3.46, science 3.75. I got waitlisted to UTMB???(never got off of it), got accepted to UT and TWU. Chose UT. Interview seems veeeerrry important at UTMB and UT....I feel it's the deciding factor.
  2. There are essay questions in the application packet? That's new, we didn't have to do that.
  3. I'm not familiar with an e reader. What will that do for us in school? Maybe I should look into that.
  4. We had to mail a letter of intention in by November 23rd. We had to accept, deny, or put our application in for another semester.
  5. Thanks for posting that for us! Doesn't sound too bad, except why does it have to be 7:00! And patho and pharm on the same day...eek...I can just see us given tests the same day for those classes!
  6. I called about the admission documents hold and they said it was because I was registered for classes this semester. I ended up dropping that class because it was needed for another school, but they said they still need the most current transcript.
  7. I wonder if they allow installments for the tuition throughout the semester? The books alone came to $800+. I guess we could search on Amazon, but I guess we just need to make sure what editions are acceptable.
  8. Those of you who got into TWU also, have you notified them yet? I kind of feel bad I haven't yet, but I'm really just waiting until a few holds have cleared and then I'll call them.
  9. You skip the chemistry and biology sections...there is no physics. As for personality and learning styles...that's all about you and how you handle things. Only you can answer those because it's based on your personality. As for critical thinking, I don't really know of any way to study that. It's based on logic. What would you do first? Remember that the patient bleeding is more important than the patient who needs to go to the bathroom. I suppose you could study the nclex for exiting nurses...but that would be going overboard. The whole test is rather easy, except for a and p. If you study the guide for all the other parts, you will be just fine. And for a and p...review, review, and review your old book or get the a and p cliff notes. That's what I did!
  10. Thank you for the information on scrubs! We probably have some time on getting them, but it's like someone posted earlier...it's like getting school supplies....it's fun getting something new! I suppose we probably won't need them until late February or March.
  11. Does anyone know the best place to find quality scrubs in Houston? Or to look at all the selections out there, do we have to buy them online? It's hard to tell online what they feel and will look like on! Are we allowed to wear Dansko clogs-white ones of course? And also, when do you think we register and our first payment is due? I know the first payment will be 2-3 K, so I need to budget for it....or really find out where I'm going to get it from!!!
  12. I signed up for that day as well! Thanks dpierson!
  13. My kids are excited for me, but I don't think they quite understand the whole education thing. Their more excited when I tell them I got an A on a test. Even my 10 year old said,"Maybe you can go to both schools and make double the money when you get done" He was serious! I hope the rails done too.
  14. How old are your children dpierson? I have 3---5,7 and 10 and they all go to Travis. Did you contact TWU yet? I'm thinking of catching the Metrorail that is expanding just the other side of 45 in Lindale. I think that would be the easiest way to get there....just get my husband to drop me off and pick me up.
  15. Hi SerenePeach....have you notified TWU of your plans not to go there yet? I know we have the e-mail of acceptance, but I just feel like I need it in my hands first....and sending a confirmation in to UT before I call TWU. But then I hate to keep people waiting that are on the waitlist at TWU. Anyone live in the Heights? We should try and do a happy hour somewhere?
  16. I got in too!! Yeah.. Steph, did your holds get updated after you checked them in the morning.....did they change throughtout today? My friend is waiting patiently, and I was just wondering.
  17. My status is the same, but I do have more holds too.
  18. There acceptance process is a little weird. I had an interview oct 4th and by oct 6 th my status changed on e connect. I received a waitlist letter on oct 9th, before any of the acceptees had been notified. I don't understand their process.
  19. Well, like you, I have 3 children..5, 7 and 10. So having the summers off might make it easier....rather than spending 1200 a month on summer camps. But, I really would like to get it done earlier too, and if we graduate at the beginning of May, that makes it 7 months earlier. Plus, the preceptorship...one on one!
  20. So did you turn in acceptance to TWU? I did, but of course am still waiting to here from UT. I'm just trying to decide which one I would choose if I got accepted to UT. I've always leaned toward UT, but now that TWU accepted me....it throws me off a bit.
  21. Does anyone know how long the program is exactly? I was told 18 months, but if we go spring, summer, fall, spring...then when does it end. End of May-which would be 17 months, or end of June-which would be 18 months.
  22. Does anyone know how the first semester schedule will look like? Like how many hours a day, not including studying of course. And what is the deal with the uniforms in the student handbook. It says a maroon skirt, white blouse and all sorts of other stuff.
  23. In my opinion, when applying to nursing school, the most important grades are your 60 prereq hours and your 16 science hours. I have a previous bachelors with a not too hot GPA, but my first two years were just fine. When I added the 24 hours I had to take to complete the 60 prereqs they wanted, my GPA turned out just fine. So I wouldn't worry too much about the overall..just make sure your prereqs are above at least 3.2-3.3.....to be safe. And try to make A's in the sciences.
  24. What a relief to everyone accepted!! Congrats!! I was also accepted to the Houston program and am thrilled to be starting this venture. I do have some questions though. Does anyone know how TWU Houston traditional program structured? Do we have the summers off? And if so, do we have the option of taking classes to get ahead? What are the advantages/disadvantages between TWU and UTHSC? Of course, I haven't been accepted to UT, but if by the chance they do offer an acceptance, what are the differences? Congrats again
