  1. Hi everyone, I went through my first round of nursing school applications this past spring. Unfortunately, I was not accepted to any of the 12 schools I applied to (I should mention that some didn't look at my app because of a missing gen-ed e.g. one school wouldn't look at my app because I didn't have a "marriage/family course"- I assumed my developmental psych course was what they were looking for). Anyways, I am more determined than ever to get into a bsn program and am prepping to go through this challenge again. One thing I have learned from the first go around is to NOT NOT NOT assume anything, especially when it comes to pre-reqs and their equivalency at different schools/states. So, I come to you all for some aid. I know many people here have probably been in my position before and I am seeking out any help you all can offer. I graduated May 2010 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I had a health sciences minor since I started as a pre-med (like everyone else in freshman year, it seemed). So, I have the following coursework done (as relates to nursing pre-reqs at most schools): Microbio, A+P, Psych, Developmental Psych, Nutrition, Chemistry/Lab, etc etc. I did not get an A in A+P so I am retaking that to earn an A, once/if I do that, I will have A's in every pre-req course. I have over 400 hours of volunteering with a mentally handicapped child, am volunteering at hospice this fall, and am trying to find nurses to shadow (though I have shadowed nurses years ago). My dilemma comes from my first degree. As I mentioned, I was a pre-med major (for all the wrong reasons) and I butchered my GPA my first 2 years of college. I was stubborn and would keep retaking classes until the beginning of my junior year when I made a switch. The last year and a half of my transcript is awesome, above a 3.6 GPA. My transcript reads a 2.9 overall GPA, however, due to my mistakes in the first half of college. I also should mention that I have nearly 150 credit hours, so making that number move is not as simple as taking a course or two. I have no objections to going out of state for nursing school (anywhere except the northeast, no thanks). Can you guys help me in my search for nursing schools with a BSN program (traditional/ABSN is fine) that isn't looking for a 3.5+ overall GPA and/or doesn't require a whole lot of depth into the pre-reqs (i.e. some programs require Organic Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, etc - courses that were more for the pre-med kids at my school)? Ideally, I'd like to find a program that starts Spring/Summer/Fall 2012. I am working full time, albeit living at home with the parents and I am more than ready to get a move on with things. I appreciate you taking the time to read this, good luck to everyone involved in applications at this time.
  2. I was not accepted nor waitlisted, BUT I would like to extend my congratulations to those who did get in and wish those on the waitlist the best of look getting in, albeit a little later than expected! I am going to be retaking my A+P and reapplying to many schools again (some start in Spring '12 so it may not be a huge delay) Again, congrats everyone!
  3. So it'll be a big envelope for a yes and a small envelope for a no? Sometimes I wish we could just be notified via email...
  4. I feel like UF is one of the last schools to let us know if we are in (but they also had the latest deadline from my list of schools). UF is the last school I am waiting on, and my #1 choice. Bah, this wait is so painful. Any of you have a backup plan yet should the news not be so good come the end of the month? I will retake some pre-reqs and GRE, and reapply. Anything worth having is worth fighting for, right?
  5. Yes, best wishes to everyone! We all have unique stories and I think we'd come together to make a quality class, let's hope it comes to fruition!
  6. I was told via e-mail there was no time frame for final decisions...
  7. The lady (peggy) was extremely nice and, given her position of telling people that they didn't get in if that was the case, was really apologetic. They are still assembling the letters for accepted people but once the processing is done and letters (acceptances and rejections) go out, we can have a one on one conversation about what we can do different for the next application it really does stink not getting in though, no acceptances here yet. Waiting on 2 more schools in state. Good luck everyone:up:
  8. She was very nice but told me there would be a number to call in the rejection letter that you could use to talk to someone about what areas you need to improve on, etc. I was also out of state and my GPA wasn't the highest...it was more of a "knew that was coming" than a let down. I suggest you all call because the stress of waiting isn't worth the reduction on your years of life
  9. I did not get in either. Someone in this thread must be getting some good news, come on guys
  10. I am going to call tomorrow, too. I just can't be so paranoid when driving past the mailbox anymore. Anyone know anyone getting in with a lower GPA (3.1ish??).
  11. So, we will hear on March 21? Or letters are mailed March 21, meaning a few days after that? The wait is no fun...
  12. No letter here in Orlando. Come on USPS, let's pick up the pace, haha. Days feel like weeks/months when in this application process!
  13. Anyone know when we should be hearing about interview invites/declines?
  14. I got an 83.3% overall. I scored above an 80 in the science section but failed the grammar section miserably; I think I got a 60 in that section. I used to the ATI review book and would recommend it. Also, utilize the two practice exams they have. I was scoring mid-high 70's on those so I was more than happy to go up on the actual thing. Good luck!
  15. Just wondering if anyone here is attending or has attended AUM. I wonder how many people apply outright there and how many people utilize it as their "back-up" for the main Auburn campus. I applied to both AU and AUM for Fall 2011. If anyone has anything to mention in regards to program quality and how you like it, if you'd enroll again, etc that would be great.
  16. I am also a Fall 2011 hopeful. My stats aren't stellar but you won't get in unless you apply and give it a shot. This was my most expensive application by far. I am out-of-state but know many people who had wonderful things to say about the program. Good luck to everyone, I'm just looking forward to hearing something back soon, good or bad.
  17. Yikes, it must be super competitive - and probably only going to get worse next cycle. What about the AU Montgomery campus program, did you apply there? I just wonder if it still feels like you go to Auburn. I'm going for the Auburn/South Carolina game next month - my first visit. As you say, War Eagle!
  18. Thanks for the insight, symphie. Much appreciated. Any idea how many guys are in the program?
  19. Hey guys, I am a out of state student looking to go to Auburn for a 2nd BSN. I understand they no longer have any accelerated program, but I am still interested in attending there. Anyone who is in the program, or has any knowledge of it beyond the website information, can you share your thoughts? How competitive is it? The site says a 2.5 GPA is the requirement to apply, does that mean someone with a 3.1 would have a chance? It's easy to make a low application requirement to get more applicants (and money). If it means anything, I am a male applicant (though I hope that isn't a huge boost to be honest)... Thanks for your help everyone.
  20. I guess I am the exception to the norm, I'm planning on applying to 12 programs or so to start Fall 2011. I just finished my first degree with a mediocre GPA in May (around 3.1) but really only want to go through the app season once if I can help it. The way I see it, I only need 1 acceptance...good luck to everyone!
