Does anyone know of any studies on the issue of feeling the need to void when catheterized? I hear it from patients all the time but would like to know prevalence, etc. Thanks, all.

Sometimes I think nurses get blinders on and believe that if they don't work in a hospital, they are not a "real nurse" or something. Open yourself up to options other than the usual. I know that it's a goofy piece of baloney to tell people to think outside of the box, but do it. I found myself unhappy working for, quite frankly, people who are a lot dumber than I am! Now I am an entreprenuer, running my own business, (consulting and training) and am very satisfied with my new nursing career. Think of Hospice, home care, school nurse, office nurse, working for attorneys, pharmacies,etc. Don't give up and don;t beat yourself up, you just have to find your groove.

I once worked with one who was so mad when a wife refused to have a peg tube inserted into her dying husband, he punched a hole in the wall with his fist over the man's head of the bed, scattering plaster and paint chips over his face. And yes, indeedy, he was on nose candy.

You are absolutely correct. There is also a great deal of corruption in the Department. I reported a surveyor for abuse of not one but two residents. Guess who got fired? We must, as the exoerts in LTC set the standards and refuse to take this abuse. Many of the surveyors are completely incompetent, or married to soemone in the Department. As an example of corruption, DSHS refuses to give the names of convicted felons who are wanted to the police, all the while sending them their benefits. Recently DSHS VOC rehab spent $1000,000 on a "week-end retreat" ata very fancy resort for their managers. There is approximately 10 million $ in the Department unaccounted for. Their response is they don't have to. I could go on and on. Recently a facility in Eastern WA in August (very hot) was cited for brown spots on the lawn! These people are incredibly arrogant, rude and incompetent. Please continue to fight the good fight. This is a rogue agency out of control and answerable to no one. Report and complain when they break laws and are inappropriate.:rotfl:
