  1. @samdaman I know for residency you have to live there and have a job for 1 year without being a student. I am in the same boat if I get accepted because I just used up all of my VA tuition waiver for my B.S.
  2. Yep I just know that if you get a letter before an acceptence email then you got rejected and that they are still working on reviewing apps. I have been checking my emails a rediculous amount of time today...
  3. @samdaman Do you mind if I ask you what your GPA was?
  4. Congratulations! I'm sure everything will work out for you or if you explain to Shannon that you need more maybe they will give it to you. Hopefully they haven't sent out ALL of those emails yet....
  5. @Samdaman did it just got sent out tonight? and when does it say you have to get back to them by? I am so confused because Shannon said that they aren't sending emails, just letters.
  6. @ Samdaman looks like you may be safe because we will not know for another 2- 3 weeks if we get accepted
  7. @kangarhue The video was probably the most time consuming part for me. It took forever to edit! but hopefully I did a good job and it stands out. @samdaman If they favor overseas experience then you and mrobinson has it in the bag! If I don't get in this year then I'll be doing peace corps before I apply again. Atleast I know that getting into the peace corps will help strengthen my applicaition! -Lalida
  8. I am in Washington State. It would probably take atleast a week for any kind of mail to get here...
  9. @Kangarhue Thanks for the news! Keep us updated if you hear anything else :)
  10. @samndaman I know that for my roommate and I the GPA calculation that nursingCAS gave us after verifying our application was lower than our actual grades on our school transcript.
  11. Am I the only one excited that the due date is coming up?! I am just dying to find out if I got accepted or not and my application was done weeks ago but still no words @samdaman Did you completed your application? also did NursingCAS pulled your grades down as well when they verified your stuff? -Lalida
  12. No words yet either My video was also viewed last week. It's making me so anxious! I feel like eventhough they say they are not comparing our applications to others, they must be if it's taking this long...But on a possitive note I have my interview for the peace corps this Monday :) It is my plan B for next year. It's a 60min - 90 min interview...that sounds so intense! Honestly either way I'm really excited for next year! Although I do hope everyone gets into the MEPN program. Keep thinking possitive Michelle! It's getting close to the deadline so we must find out soon! -Lalida
  13. @Samdaman you're reading it wrong. That is talking about while you are in the program. The reason it says may be out of state for Advanced Public Health Nursing is because it's an online based program so you can do the program while out of state. For FNP and PNP you must be in the state because you have to do the classes in Hawaii on campus. Basically you can be an out of state student to get accepted, you just have to move to Hawaii while you are doing the program. Hope that helps :)
  14. @Samdaman Is what true? From what I know they do a good job at accepting an equal amount of in and out of state students but they do want students who are planning on staying in Hawaii and working there since a lot of the things you learn are specific to that region.
  15. @mrobinson69600 Thank you for the quick response! I have been so paranoid about that. Good luck to you and I hope you get in as well :) If you hear anything else feel free to pm me or post it on here. I will really appreciate it! -Lalida
  16. @mrobinson6900 How long did it take nursingCAS to verify your grades after they recieved your transcripts? All of my things are turned in and that's the only thing left for my application to be submitted to the admissions review board. Thanks!
  17. @atkpop You are making me sweat here. I am not savy at all with video editing softwares. I literally fell asleep at 6am this morning exausted after finishing that video. Your career sounds to fit with APHN thought even if it is different. I started out as a nursing student and switched to Community Health so my pre-reqs were already done last year. I am also only applying to U of H. I fell in love with Hawaii when I visited there. I grew up in Thailand and Hawaii felt almost exactly the same to me. I am also so ready to get away from Seattle winters so I hope I get in! P.S. Did anyone's NursingCAS application got processed already? I am wondering how long that actually take because the website says 5 weeks but a friend of mine used it for a different school and said it takes less. Good luck everyone! -Lalida
  18. I'm not sure if anyone will answer me because II know this is last year's forum but did you guys have to do a Youtube video as well or is that new for this year? I am just wondering if the Youtube video is replacing the interview or if we will have both? Thanks!
  19. Thanks samdaman for tell us about that program. I think the only thing that keeps me from applying to some of those programs are that you have to take the GRE and U of H app is expensive enough ($165?!). I don't think I can spend much more on these applications
  20. Update: I have decided to apply for the dual FNP and APHN program :)
  21. Hi! I have not started the application for the 2013 MEPN program yet but I plan on it soon! I will be graduating this Spring with a BS in Community/Public Health and a minor in Health Science. U of H MEPN program is the only program I am applying to (Yikes! I know!). If this doesn't work out I also just turned in my Peace Corps App and will be persuing that. I notice on the previous years forum just about EVERYONE was applying for one of the NP specialties. Is anyone going for the Advanced Public Health Nursing or Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist? I am trying to decide between these two at the moment. If anyone know of people in these programs or have heard anything about them I will really appreciate anything you can tell me! -Lalida I just wanted to ask everyone else who are joining this forum: what kind of bachelor's degree does everyone else have? Have you applied to this program before? which specialties are you trying to get into?
  22. i got the nln thing worked out, i am taking it may 24th! it took countless of phone calls and even an email to the dean of nursing to get nln to ok me getting proctored at a community college. thanks heystella i'm glad to see someone who got in and didn't have the perfect 4.0 pcum. i was deffinitely worried about that! i will have about 3.8 pcum and 3.4-3.6 ccum depending on how this quarter goes (since i'm crazy and decided to take chem, anatomy, and micro at the same time haha but so far so good!)
  23. cha12m are you planning on applying for Spring 2013 for UHM?
  24. Don't give up! Maybe see if there's another major that you are interested in. Start taking classes for that major while you retake your nursing classes and applying to nursing schools. I am starting my Community/ Public Health this summer and fall while I wait to hear if I get accepted...good luck!
  25. My roomate and I are going to be applying to U of H manoa school of nursing. We know we have a bit of a head start until we have to actually apply but we have a couple of questions for anyone that have been through the application process for University of Hawaii. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Background info: My roomate and I are from Seattle so we will be out of state students. We will have all of our classes (hopefully..) done by the application deadline so they will see our complete gpa. Our Questions: 1. Was the NLN difficult and how far in advance should we be studying? Also how far in advance of the application deadline should we take the test? 2. What is the average GPA of students that get in? 3. We deffinitely want to live off campus. How would we go about trying to find an apartment close to campus? We want a 2 bed 1 bath which from my research so far is difficult since most places that offer student housing are studio apartments or requires us to share a room. We were both Residence Advisors in freshmen dorms and needless to say we really love having our own space now. If anyone has a list of names of good apartments nearby feel free to let us know! 4. Going back to the apartments. If accepted should we be planning a trip in advance to find an apartment? How difficult is it to find an apartment for Spring semester instead of before Fall? Some issues we ran into: 1. The NLN test is not offered at a facility in WA so we will have to get a proctor to administer the test. 2. Our school doesn't offer ANYTHING that will transfer over as an FG course. Which really sucks because it's the ONLY pre req class we still need. The UH admissions office told us to see if we can petition a similar class we have taken to see if it will qualify as an FG course. If that doesn't work we'll have to take an online course from UH to meet this requirement in the fall. -I decided to put this up incase anyone else is running into the same problems. Thank you for anyone taking the time to respond, I know it's a lot! -Lalida
