Actually, for UC Davis' Medical Center, it isn't required that you had your preceptorship in the unit that you are applying to work for, it is just preferred..so it still doesn't hurt to apply!

You guys should check out UC Davis and sign up for their Job Agent. It will notify you each time a new position opens up for a New Grad, Staff Nurse 1. They don't hire their New Grads all in one big swoop like UCSF and Stanford- they hire them as they are needed on each unit. There have been about 5 posted within the last month. I don't know how many are still open right now- I know that there is at least one for a Transplant/Metabolic Unit, but they do post them very frequently. Good luck!!! :hug:

I don't mind at all..I went to the University of San Francisco. The unit that I will be working for hired 2 new grads including me..I'm not sure about the rest of the units, but I think that the other units were hiring either 1 or 2 new grads.

Hey Pow82, I hear ya! I'm a new grad as well and it took me several months before I got a job. What really helped me was obtaining additional certifications in the meantime while I was searching for jobs. Obviously, there's ACLS and PALS that you could take, but you could also go online and take the NIH Stroke Scale Certification course- which is FREE! (Woo Hoo!) It takes about 2 hours to complete and assures that you are competent in assessing patients admitted with a stroke dx. That has proven to be really helpful for me in my job search and it looks great on the resume. In addition, I would suggest maybe looking into taking some CEU courses. I have not taken any myself, but a lot of my friends have and they liked them. I know that it's really early to start worrying about taking those classes, since you just got your license, but a lot of interviewers will ask you what you've been doing to further your career since you've graduated and this would be a great answer. It might be good to also consider working as a UAP in a hospital if you have your CNA certification or volunteer in a hospital or clinic setting. Good luck!!!

I still have not heard anything from San Ramon. From what I understand, I believe that they are supposed to begin contacting applicants sometime this week to call them in for the first round of interviews which are supposed to take place mid to late August. I just took a position with Stanford, so I won't be going through interviewing with San Ramon if they contact me, but good luck to everyone!!!! I hope that you all get it..keep me posted!! :yelclap:

I said Cardiac ICU as well! But I also said Oncology..I'd love either one. Ugh, that's such a tough position to be put in! I feel like I might be in the same place as you within the next week..I had an interview at another hospital several weeks ago and I feel really good about it, so I don't know what I'll do if they offer me the position, because I want to hear from Stanford..it's such a tough gamble..I wish that all of the hospitals that you apply for would tell you their decision at one time hahaha..when do you have until you have to make a decision about the socal hospital?

They told me during my panel on Wednesday that we would be hearing back within 10-14 days via e-mail and that they would notify us either way. They said that there's a small chance that they'd be able to let us know sooner, but they aren't promising anything :/ so we'll seeeee..10 spots is such a small number! Especially since they panel interviewed approx. 100..yikes! What units did you pick as your top preferences?!

I have 3 friends that are still in the process of interviewing for LPCH..they all have their interviews with the unit managers next week...so I know that they're not done hiring yet..congratulations on getting to the final interview, hopefully you will get the job! What unit are you interviewing for? I just had my SHC panel yesterday and they said they'd notify us in 10-14 days if we are selected for the interview with the unit manager..the wait is going to kill me!

I thought that it was kind of strange too..I was thinking that maybe they would just include it in our profiles so that later when theyre going over our apps and interviews they remember who we were..like their way of putting a face to the name (Literally! haha)
