Yeah, spending that extra money for the box of books and e-box is a personal choice of preference everybody has to make. I did decide to spend the extra money to do that, despite how much I love saving money, because I love saving time. You may have already seen this since you've been following allnurses much longer than I have, but having the e-box allows us to copy and paste into our care plans (which are supposed to be infamously time-consuming), study guides, flashcards, etc. I know I could have saved a few hundred dollars, but I type for a living. When I think about all the many hours I will save by copying and pasting instead of typing or writing, I feel pretty good about that few hundred dollar investment. Just something to think about while you're making your decision Grats again!

Oh yeah, and by the way, what was up with Ms. *, "not being with us anymore." Ms. * kept saying that at orientation. Did she die or quit? I'm so curious

That is the scheduled time that I marked on my degree audit sheet when she was announcing the corrections. Even though sections 13 and 14 didn't apply to me, I wrote it down anyway in case I decided to go for section 11 or 12. But you could always call Ms. * to confirm.

Congratulations to both of you I know you are too excited for words to completely express your excitement. It'll take you about an hour or two, but be sure to go back through the previous pages of this thread and the thread for 2010 Fall Hopefuls. There's tons of useful info regarding everything under the sun, stuff you would never think to ask but that will be helpful to know, especially regarding all the things you have to purchase now. Best of luck to you both :redbeathe

You just turn everything in together. I would use like a manila envelope instead of an actual folder so that nothing can fall out because you're not suppose to staple that little passport photo to anything. It could easily come loose from its paperclip being shoved around in a stack with lots of other papers. Sign the back of the photo, and make copies of everything you turn in. I didn't notice that in fine print at the bottom of the physical form until after I turned everything in. It doesn't mention it on the sheet with all the photo specifications, but Ms. * did mention that at orientation.

I was wondering why I got booted from Connections about 2 hours ago and couldn't log back in, but I guess they were updating the system. My balance is now $0 for tuition....yaaaaay

There usually are special fees with classes that involve labs. There was a sheet in the application packet that broke down the expenses per term. Of course everything is always changing (usually in the direction of more expensive). So the amounts might be different, but it does identify what the extra expenses are for. Some items were things like uniforms and such, but others were things that are being included in our tuition, like clinical insurance, etc. I don't know what I did with the pages from the application packet that didn't get turned in, so I can't post the list. Anyways, I'm not surprised by the amount of tuition. People last term said their 1st term was $1200. I'm kind of relieved that it went up less than $100

From what I remember the past several terms, the red disbursement status is normal. I'm pretty sure that doesn't update to green until they actually disburse leftover funds to us about a month after classes begin. But then again, everything is done differently now that it's government run. Who knows... Hopefully, financial aid will post to tuition balances tomorrow. I swear it automatically updated in the system as soon as you registered in previous terms, but perhaps it works differently for classes that are part of an admittance-based program like nursing, as opposed to regular ole prereqs that anyone is eligible to take.

I'm glad you're seeing progress :) It's amazing how many different answers you can get to the same one question. Don't worry, we're almost through the storm.....well, the money storm anyway. I'm looking forward to the information storm though

So, for those of you who have financial aid coming and your award summaries have already posted, are your classes showing up as paid for once you register? Oh, and I told some people in the bookstore yesterday that the iClicker was cheaper on Amazon than at the bookstore, but I was mistaken. Sorry about that. It's $40 new at both.

It won't let me because my classes aren't paid for yet, which is so weird because my award summary has posted. I know in previous terms my classes showed as paid for and $0 balance due as soon as I registered, as long as my award summary had already posted. I'm a little nervous. If it doesn't post as paid by tomorrow, I have to go up to campus again and wait in line at financial aid again because Thursday is the payment deadline.

I know. I'm so relieved. But I guess I'll spend a good bit of it reviewing A&P. I just know the first time an instructor asks me where a particular bone or vein is, I'm just going to be a deer in the headlights lol And thanks again, Marina, for giving me your copy of the list of professor ratings. It really made a difference in my choice of sections

I was so glad to finally get "oriented" And we had fewer surprises and were a little less nervous because of all your helpful info. Thanks again Butterfly Mom for offering your little bit of spare time to satiate our curiosities :redpinkhe

i emailed ms. p to confirm that she had received my packet and that everything was in order, and she replied: "we are currently reviewing the 160+ health requirement packets at this time. if your packet is missing info and/or if the info is not correct you will be notified about it so that you can provide the missing info and/or correct what is wrong for your info. thank you." so there's probably no need to flood her with calls and emails because everybody is probably going to get this standard answer. she really is so nice and helpful, especially considering how many people she has to deal with. i just love the 160+ packet bit. you know what she wanted to say was, "deadline was tuesday afternoon. it's wednesday morning. there are 168 of you. do the math." lol

We got an email from the program, "clarifying some points about packet data." It may just be a routine email that they send out the day after deadline, but usually there's only need to clarify if people aren't doing it right. Anyway, you might just want to double check the list. Double check??? Haha, that's a laugh. What do you call it when you check it for the 37th time? 37tuple check :)

Last term JenPerez seemed to be a pretty diligent comparison shopper. She got hers from Barnes & Noble online. She found a coupon code online and got 15% off and free shipping. Her total was about $200 (not including the dosage calc book). I personally am going to use Amazon Student and get the free 2-day shipping. The couple of things I checked out on there so far were sold by Amazon directly NEW for almost the same price as the cheapest used version available. For instance, the Davis's Drug Guide is a dollar cheaper new from Amazon than the cheapest used one. Plus, if we're ever in a pinch, we can get overnight shipping for $3.99. But you could also check eBay, Overstock, textbooks.com. Also, the communication board outside the nursing office where we turned in our applications and paperwork had a couple of fliers up last week from some students in other terms who were selling their books.

Did you message Butterflymom? Did you ask her if she found out the same day of her meeting? I don't think she would have told you that you qualify if you don't without putting in some kind of disclaimer. They're usually so cautious not to tell you anything for sure, so you can't say they told you something wrong.

Per Ms. P, we for sure do not need to get the flu shot. That was supposed to be taken out of the paperwork because the shot that is out now is outdated. It will not protect us from the strains that will be going around this fall. We will probably be required to get one this fall, however.

Not sure. You could call them. If they don't stock it there, they can probably have it brought over for you.

nice!!! it's going to be at deerwood i was on amazon earlier buying something non-school related. i looked up the rnotes: nurse's clinical pocket guide. i know we don't need it until we start clinicals, but i went ahead and bought it. i'm curious to look through it. i signed up for amazon student. not only do you get free shipping, but it's free 2-day shipping!!! i think that's pretty sweet. i looked up some of the other reference books that don't come in the box, but i just decided to wait. if i buy them now, the list will change or they'll say we need a different edition or something. no harm in waiting now.....free 2-day shipping!!!!!!

Sounds feasible, not sure though. You may want to call. I'm just going to hang out after orientation, go over any material they give us, absorb the day, and create flashcards on laptop for the dosage calc and med term test until I can register for term I and go get the books.

Thanks, Marina!! :redpinkhe Taking that under advisement, I called the North campus bookstore, and they will be open until 6:00 next Monday. I also called the library for those of you who would like to not make a second trip back up there but don't have laptops. They will be open until 9:00. So, if we can start registering for our sections after 5:00, you could go to the library and register for classes, and then get to the bookstore by 6:00 to pick up books using book vouchers. Just an idea. I live soooo far away, so my life's mission is to get as much done as possible with as little driving as possible

Aaaah, my bad I can't remember what she said about the supplements, but if you can access them electronically wherever you are, I don't see any reason why we would have to have hard copies. But what do I know? lol Thanks for confirming the book allowance amount Yeah, I think we could all use some miraclegrow for our trees

First Butterflymom was saying that you can't have a phone out during class. But later she said that she hadn't seen anyone have trouble with a teacher if they were obviously just using it for class purposes and not texting. She said just let them know it is your phone and make it clear that you are definitely only using it as a learning supplement. If anyone is thinking about getting a new gadget, I would really recommend just waiting until the first week of class. We already have to spend so much money. Why have 2 separate gadgets to keep track of and potentially break, etc., if we can just use our phones? Or it may turn out that we get a professor who absolutely does not allow phones out at all. Then you might want to invest in a second gadget after all. I personally hope that, despite the small elementary desks, it will be feasible to only bring my laptop. I just find it easier to read and search and work on a larger medium, and I really don't want to be shuffling around a bunch of papers and books on one of those tiny desks. I wish I had wanted N/W. I love, love, love Deerwood campus. :redbeathe
