  1. Maybe I am not being clear - I am way past ALL of your suggestions! I have done ALL of it! I have looked all over the state I live in and NOTHING - I have looked out of the state where I live, still no jobs for NEW GRAD RN'S - LTC facilities used to BEG for nurses - oh but not now - you know things are terrible when the LTC facilities do not want LVN's, wants more RN's and REQUIRES at least on year of RN experience. I have applied all over, sometimes just to test my theories that lead me to more investigation. The hospitals that do not have an "agenda". The HR Departments of the hospitals that are honest, are not playing the "visa" game will come right out and say that there is a "nursing glut" and/or "the market is flooded with New Grads and there is not a need for as many that are being educated. Then there are the hospitals that have an agenda.. oh those are the scarey ones. ". they falsely post jobs that they have no intent on filling to make it appear as though there is a nursing shortage (this is how they legally get away with continuing to import foreign nurses to the USA instead of developing the American workforce). They would rather have foreign nurses that are similar to indentured servants because the foreign nurses goal is to turn their short term visa - H1B, H1C, etc.. into a green card/permanent residency of the US, because of this they WON'T join nurses unions - they do not want to have any falling outs with their "sponsored" employer because that would put them at the end of the line for the green card. Many of these hospitals/groups,CEO's/HR VP's, write letters to their congressmen/senators PUSHING bills that EXPAND FOREIGN NURSE VISA's - and they are doing this CURRENTLY - Do you think for one second these hospitals will tell you they are doing this NO they won't - they won't hire youm - USA NEW GRADS -Furthermore, they cannot really verify the legitmacy of every "nurses" education from lets say, India, just as a random example - come on, do you really believe that??? The USA has a heck of a time detecting fraud in the USA how can they in/from India??? YEP do your research - all of the time I have had not working, and my hunger for the truth when I smell a rat- has lead me to some amazing factual, undeniable information directly from the sources themselves-
  2. @I'mThatGuy: Please tell me what city your talking about where there is not a problem for NEW GRAD RN's getting a job. City and State.. Thanks a MILLION.. I need a job and cannot find one AT ALL!!! NO New Grad jobs and if there is one they get between 300 to 1,100 applications per position. I have LVN experience and a RN License.. 3.75 GPA, Volunteering for the PD in my area, victim advocacy, etc etc.. fab references yada yada.. NO JOB.
  3. Anyone who says they got the "good pop up" and they Failed, is lying. If you get the "good pop up" you passed and you are a RN, period end of story. I know of 2 people on FB that LIED cuz they failed but they tried to say they got the good pop up. If you really get the Good Pop Up then you PASSED.. and Congratulations. Now you have to find a job. That is going to be almost impossible. That is an entirely different issue.
  4. One more point.. the title of this thread, Can the CNA do anything about..... I believe this is referring to a nurses union, lol... not the certified nurse assistant...
  5. by the way I was a CNA and to this day I LOVE that job.. it taught me everything, how to care for the patient, and what the nurse wants to know about the patient. I love being a CNA!!! But I never did any of that stuff.. it is not legal here.
  6. In California, none of that is legal.. CNA's cannot do any of that... OMG!!! I think that rule is standard cuz the NCLEX is against that to!! I have heard of Med techs.. yes they are uap's and give meds.. I thought that was done in home care and assisted livings only?? wow, foleys, IV's, gtubes - that is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is another hit on nursing.. but the foreign nurses are gonna prevent citizen nurses from even getting a job at all.. what can we do??????? All of these things undermining nursing and US nurses.. yikes..
  7. The H1B visa are used primarily for engineers and things like that, and approx. 500 total are said to be issued per year. I located the visa numbers for foreign nurses there was the E3 that was very popular but complicated. In the last 5 years there is another visa H1C (something like that), those are easily obtained in mass numbers, but those had strict time limits. President Obama has had a non-waivering position on this issue - He said that he does not agree with bringing in foreign nurses and he believes that this will hurt USA citizen nurses. He was/is right!! Back to the visa's.. so due to the restrictions on the amount of time the foreign nurses could remain in the US, and the foreign nurses knowing before ever coming to the US that they wanted to stay and obtain permanent residency, etc., there are these recruiters that know the ropes with the hopitals and the country where the foreign nurses are from. The Hospitals knew the foreign nurse was coming and they sponsor their obtaining permanent residency status!!! Furthermore, there are schools/businesses that specifically exist to make sure that all of the processes are completed once the foreign nurses come to the US.!!!! These are NOT the schools that people attend to become nurses. These are specific businesses for the purpose of foreign nurses. Another way that foreign nurses come into the country is on a visitors visa, then they race against the clock to get jobs and permanent visa's. This whole thing is a hugh mess!!! Furthermore, the nursing programs are flooding the US market with new grads!! President Obama has had good insight into this situation and he shares his ideas that are pro US nurses, but nothing is happening to stop this mess!! Until the USA Hospitals are forced to stop doing what they are doing and hire USA nurses, and train them for the future, there is not end in sight. There is going to have to be some very hard work and reform put into this and no one is doing anything about it. Nurses that are in the work place are going to have to get involved and advocate for the new nurses. Guess they feel to vulnerable to do so. The impact of foreign nurses on the US work force and career goals of US nurses is going to be disastorous. The President understands the ramifications of this. It is only going to get worse for US nurses.
  8. WHY aren't the UNIONS helping with this??? Something has to be done! I worked as a LVN for 5 years and just got my RN license, too. I have high GPA, commendations up the ying yang, years of volunteer work in the community, etc.. I cannot get a job, I do not get phone calls, all I get are emails that turn me down. This has to stop!!!! In California we have approximately 64,000 Foreign RN's taking our spots!! They continue to block us because they are said to have experience - well guess what - that doesn't matter!!! New grads have to be trained, and we cannot be turned down or refused employment and a NON-citizen have the job - regardless of the excuses that Hospitals make!!! Look at any VA job posting, they state right off the bat that the RN candidate MUST be a citizen of the USA, not a permanent resident, not on a visa, etc. The VA states that because it is FEDERAL LAW set forth by the Department of Labor. This Federal Labor Law applies to ALL employment whether it is private sector and government... SOMETHING must be done - I am not going to be unemployed and a NON CITIZEN has MY job... No way.. so since I don't have a RN job right now, putting the word out all over the place has become my job!! Nursing advocacy for work deprived USA Nurses. Permanent residents can gripe that they pay taxes, etc. etc. well that doesn't mean they can have a job over a USA Citizen, even though this violation of USA citizens rights is occuring in LARGE numbers. Oh and I have to repay my $50,000 loan for the RN program... I better get a job, cuz I am getting ******!
  9. *** it doesn't matter where the foreign nurse is educated the us federal department of labor states it clearly the a citizen cannot be refused employment and a non-citizen be given the job, or continue to fill the position. check this on your computers by going into the site and search the subject.. takes about 2 minutes. please read on!! the federal department of labor clearly states that; united states citizens take precedance and a non-citizen cannot be employed if a united states citizen is available for the job. but this is not the case! rn's that are united states citizens are not given precedance, united states citizen new grad rn's are not being given precedance either. here is a link that has a power point from the california institute of nursing and health care, that states on page 7 that 16% of the rn's in california are foreign nurses. whether they are on visa's or have green cards (e3's, etc. and/or have permanent residency - green card), these nurses should not be employed when a rn who is a us citizen needs a job! furthermore, the foreign nurses are getting employed without verifiable job references and proof of positive employment histories. the foreign nurses are gaining experience while employed here, which further disables us citizen new grad rn's from getting hired. us citizen nurses job history backgrounds are scrutinized and a foreign rn who doesn't even have verifiable (cannot prove the legitamacy) job references etc. can get the job instead. in california 16% = 64,000 foreign rn's (we have a total of approximately 400,000 rn's). i would say that number is greatly affecting us rn's from getting jobs!! this is just in california.. another point is that the cinhc estimated that in 2009, 5,768 california new grad rn's would get hired for jobs and 3,812 california new grad rn's would not get a job (page 23 of the power point). yet, the cinhc wants to continue to flood the market in california. with new grad rn's that will not get jobs. the reason for this is that they want to receive the annual $60,000,000 for the states budget for nursing education - because this pays for their nursing instructor salaries. here is the link - http://www.cinhc.org/wordpress/wp-co...ionsed0809.pdf
  10. why isn't the cna doing something about this??? why??? the federal department of labor clearly states that; united states citizens take precedance and a non-citizen cannot be employed if a united states citizen is available for the job. but this is not the case! rn's that are united states citizens are not given precedance, united states citizen new grad rn's are not being given precedance either. here is a link that has a power point from the california institute of nursing and health care, that states on page 7 that 16% of the rn's in california are foreign nurses. whether they are on visa's or have green cards (e3's, etc. and/or have permanent residency - green card), these nurses should not be employed when a rn who is a us citizen needs a job! furthermore, the foreign nurses are getting employed without verifiable job references and proof of positive employment histories. the foreign nurses are gaining experience while employed here, which further disables us citizen new grad rn's from getting hired. us citizen nurses job history backgrounds are scrutinized and a foreign rn who doesn't even have verifiable job references etc. can get the job instead. in california 16% = 64,000 foreign rn's (we have a total of approximately 400,000 rn's). i would say that number is greatly affecting us rn's from getting jobs!! this is just in california.. another point is that the cinhc estimated that in 2009, 5,768 new grad rn's would get hired for jobs and 3,812 new grad rn's would not get a job (page 23 of the power point). yet, the cinhc wants to continue to flood the market in cali. with new grad rn's that will not get jobs. the reason for this is that they want to receive the annual $60,000,000 for the states budget for nursing education - because this pays for their nursing instructor salaries. here is the link - http://www.cinhc.org/wordpress/wp-co...ionsed0809.pdf
  11. When I took my NCLEX RN on Monday 6-21-2010, my RN License was posted on the Cali BON by Friday 6-25-2010. Now that the Govenor tried to reduce 200,000 state workers pay to $7.75 per hour (you are seeing the numbers correctly) because they "Budget" is not done - who knows how long Cali BON will take to get things done. This is sad - the state workers will have to get part time jobs if they can find one. OH AND FORGET GETTING A JOB IN CALI IF YOU ARE A NEW GRAD RN....
  12. Don't be daunted by the hosp. offering temp rn's big$ to cover the strike... that just pisses the nurses off in Cali. Hawaii had a strike a couple of years ago, it lasted a long time. Agencies were calling all over to try and get nurses to go there. It didn't work. The nurses that would be qualified to go have good jobs and aren't going to up and fly to MN for a few bucks. That $5,000 is probably paid over a life time or something - if you ever see it. They have had a couple strikes where I live. It was SAD!! Don't be afraid - Nurses are NOT door mats!
  13. Hi - I am in California, when I took my LVN Nclex it took FOREVER to get my results!! Two months, I was very discouraged. I told everyone I failed the exam, including everyone I worked for. I did not know about the PVT in 2004. When I finally got the results, I did not believe that it said I passed!! I had to read it over and over again - that is how sure I failed it. I had others read it too. I wish you the best and hope you don't have to wait much longer. I just past the RN Nclex, this time it took 5 days and I knew I passed. I did the PVT and got the good pop up as well. Now my RN license is posted on the BON.
  14. PearsonVue trick worked for me!! I doubted this sooooooooo much - I tried it over and over and got the good pop up! I was SURE I failed the test - It was hard for me to believe PVT was true. IT IS TRUE, I PASSED!! I am a RN. I am in Cali, it took 5 days for the BON to post my license number on the website. I took the LVN Nclex before and just recently took the RN Nclex on 6-21-2010, on 06-25-2010 my info was on BON by 0400am.:clpty::dancgrp::anpom::flwrhrts: ::w00t: ::w00t:
