How did this turn out? I'm thinking of applying for a clinical position. Also, on the application where it asks about active duty, do I put my husband's info?

Imuens - So far I have loved clinical, a lot of people get stressed out about it, but I've had great experiences, they ease you into things, so its not like you're expected to just know how to do everything on your own. But it is tiring and you have to be able keep on your toes. basically, keep yourself busy, help out where ever you can and ask questions. Profs. are very straight forward w/ what they expect. I also look at every clinical as a job interview, because the staff will remember you. A lot of grads work at the clinical sites. Also, I know people who do work part time, but it takes a lot. I know I couldn't do it b/c I have a daughter. If you can, try to get a work study job, b/c you can study during some of them. Marinriver - The evening program is usually pretty small, but call admissions and ask if they'll let you take prereqs while enrolled - I haven't heard of anyone doing that. Also, don't worry about pharm, w/ the support the school provides, its actually one of the easier classes. I should have gotten an A, but I had family stuff going on that made it difficult.

No, but most people do b/c every class is based on powerpoint lectures. I print them out b/c it helps me to physically write out notes and the laptop is too distracting sometimes. You do need it for every test, though. And you'll need comp access everyday to check email and the learning website. A lot of people just use net books and that works well for them, which I wish I would have known, b/c I got a huge HP b/c I thought all the specs had to be met.

i bought them on amazon, or similar sites. there are a few books you definitely have to have. but for classes that are more specific, I'm trading with a classmate who has the opposite classes for the second and third semester. I don't know anyone who has bought them through the school's bookstore, with the exception of the clinical kit (stethoscope, bp cuff, and practice kits). the bookstore website has all the upcs so you can look them up other places. FYI - the med-surg book you can buy in two volumes, which you should do b/c I bought the one volume book and its 5in thick - literally! hope this helps - good luck. Also, the books for the first term you use in other terms, so its the most expensive lot to buy.

The first term is supposedly the hardest. There were a good handful of people that did not pass, so they'll be joining your class. I think the main thing is to be prepared for an accelerated program and upper level college courses. I think some people try to scare you, but its not really that bad, you just have to buckle down, so take everything w/ a grain of salt. What some people consider bad is fine for others. Basically - be a good, diligent student. There's so much support at the school, that you have a ton of resources to help you out, some better than others. You're just going to have to find out what works for you. I think I'm a pretty good student, but not stellar and I have a 3.6 and have yet to pull a real all-nighter or have a total melt down. Work hard, give yourself some good breaks, find your best stress busters and make friends! Your fellow students are the only ones that know exactly what you're going through, so lean on each other, and find ways to laugh together. Everyone gets pretty tight, pretty quick, b/c you can't do it on your own. Don't listen to gossip about teachers b/c I've gone into classes thinking it would blow, and I actually really liked the teacher, so don't waste your time - take each prof. for their best qualities, make the most of them, and learn as much as you can from them. I have yet to have a prof. who I thought didn't care about us, they are there for us and they want you to succeed, so take advantage! All of the previous negative comments about res/west sub, I have not found to be true. I'm really glad I'm there, that I'm being challenged and really feel like I'm getting a great education. I started at a different school, out of state, so I have some comparison, but my first program was really bad, so I'm really thankful for this one. One of the teachers I did like there said "you got yourself into nursing school, now get yourself out" and it's very true. It's hard, but rewarding and a great experience and it doesn't last forever, its really flying by. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Hey guys, I'm currently a student as RES (started in jan.) Don't worry too much about the requirements to get in. I had a not so great gpa from my first degree, but got all As on my prereqs, which I was taking up until the dec. before I started. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call admissions. They're extremely helpful, and by talking to them I found out that I didn't need to take some of the prereqs, so ask before you sign yourself up!! It'll save you time and money! They really do want to help you and make sure you get in. If you don't meet the 3.O and what ever the TEAS score is, they review your file and the board makes a decision, so don't let the requirements deter you or make you think that you can't get in, they are flexible, but they are also getting more competitive, so the earlier you get your stuff in, the earlier they can get you signed up. hope this helps and good luck!

I have a few calls to make to Res on Tues and I was going to call the clinical coordinator and see if she knew what the kit has. I already have one from previous nursing classes and don't want to buy a whole new set. As soon as I find out, I'll let you guys know. I already have a Mac and am wondering if it would be ok if I just have windows installed. I bought an HP just incase, but I don't want two computers if I don't need it. I love my mac and don't want to get rid of it, plus it has all my previous nursing work on it. See you guys on Friday!!

I was just wondering what laptops people have. I bought a Dell over thanksgiving break, but it's backordered and I don't want to take any chances. I want the bare min. for the specs/price, b/c I already have a Mac w/ MS Office that I can use at home. Any suggestions? I'm going to cancel my order for the Dell b/c there's no telling when it will be ready. I'm just bummed b/c it was a good deal and I know I'm not going to find something that good for the same price. Thanks!! On a side note - what were they thinking w/ the Med/Surg text, holy crap!

thanks! I called last week. I'll call John on monday. I check my online schedule everyday to see if they've added it - no luck yet. The week of registration they said they hadn't done it yet and my schedule hasn't changed since. All my classes and labs are there, too, just no clinical.

Do you guys know when we find out about our clinical schedules? I emailed the clinical coordinator and called, but never got an answer. I need to know so I can schedule daycare. Thanks and happy holidays to everyone!

I went to the online bookstore, and I'm afraid it isn't right b/c they have a med/surg book listed for foundations, but no foundations book. also, that's the book list for the fall 10 term, not spring. I just want to get on amazon asap, but not buy the wrong things.

thanks for saying something about the email - I didn't get it! I'll call them this morning. They also didn't email me on when I'm supposed to register and I turned in my deposit, enrollment, FA, and registration paperwork more than a week ago.

I saw my schedule - Mon. afternoons, and thurs/fri all day. I don't think that includes clinicals though, I meant to look further into the semester to see if it was posted.

I requested to be on the first day for registration as well, but haven't received a confirmation. Did they email you or is it in our account? Also wondering if anyone is planning to do work study and if you've talked to Mr. Bollenbacher about it yet. Ms. Howell from the financial aid office said it might not be available next quarter when we start. I know I would eventually like to get an advanced degree in nursing, I'm thinking CRNA, but we'll see. I want to be an ER or OR nurse - where ever the action is. Looking forward to meeting you all! Pimpushka - Do you live in OP or chicago? I don't know if they have it anywhere else, but check out the PCC centers. A couple of years ago, that's where I went. They have a sliding fee card, so for most visits I only had to pay $5. The OBGYN for PCC is actually at the West Sub Hosp. but I don't think you can apply for it there. Here's the site for it: PCC - Welcome To PCC Wellness Centers Also if you have kids, you probably qualify for All-kids, which has a moms and babies program, w/ barely any copay and thats through the government. Did you have to do the FAFSA earlier? I just did it and the website for the gov. said it was too late. If that's the case - I'm screwed! I'm going to call John tomorrow to start up a plan of action.

If your application had to go to committee, check your status, b/c mine changed to "application accepted by committee." So maybe the Thursday mark, was to cover their butts. Good luck and hope to see you guys!

I talked to John today and he said they pushed back the committee, and they'll know by Monday or Tuesday when they're meeting but it will be another week and a half or so.

I talked to John today and he said they should have it done in the next week and a half or two weeks and to call him then. I'm not sure if that's for everyone who wasn't eligible for automatic admission, or if you have to go to the board or not. I went to nursing school for a semester before, but I've been told different things on whether the board has to discuss my admission or not, since I meet all the basic criteria. Hi everybody, I applied for the winter 2011 start as well. The admissions counselor (John Pachecek) said that if you meet their three requirements (gpas and Teas score), that you should find out this month. If you don't meet those requirements, your application gets reviewed by the board and you won't find out until November. Hope this helps and good luck to everybody!

I ended up not applying to DePaul, b/c gpa isn't good enough from my BA. I couldn't figure out the PM either! Have you talked to Rush at all? Are the moving down the list yet? Hope all's well - good luck!
