  1. I had planned two separate one week vacations within a couple months of being hired at my job and mentioned it to them right when I got the offer. I wouldn't mention vacation plans during a first interview, but if you get a good sense about a job I would mention it when you get an offer and the ball is in your court. I would just be very clear that you really want the job, are serious about the commitment, but that this trip is also very important. I think that once they offer you the job (and have narrowed down the candidates) they will be more willing to be flexible with your request since they've decided that they like you. Good luck!
  2. Ive been working as an RN in rehab/LTC for a year now and the only advice I can tell you is ask your fellow nurses for help. If you feel something is off, ask someone else for their opinion/help.
  3. DolphinRN84 what is the name of the nursing manager? Interested in pca job. You you please PM me
  4. GAgirlinMA, Congrats on you acceptance!!! I did decide to join the January cohort so we'll all be classmates :) I just moved to Boston a couple weeks ago just to get to know the city before we start. Our school is so nice! Can't wait to start and meet you all :)
  5. FB page would be a great idea!
  6. oh and i forgot to say Padmapper.com is a really good website for apartment hunting. You basically put in what you want and it pulls craigslist...etc ads and puts them on an easy map for you to check out. Hope this helps!
  7. hi hilary9! i am from california too!!! (san diego) and im apartment hunting right now (moving a 6 months early so i can get used to the city b4 we get crazy busy with school ) There are some really awesome rentals in charlestown navy yard area that are basically across the street from school. I am looking into Parris Landing or Harborview at the Navy Yard. These even have a free shuttle that takes you to MGH affiliated hospitals across town also. Other than that I'm just as lost as you when it comes to Boston. The only way I know how to navigate is finding the big pink square on google maps (MGH) and going from there lol.
  8. Nope. Still waiting :/
  9. I heard back from umass on Tuesday for an interview. They said they were calling students for interviews then they would release letters. There's another thread where some more people have also received interviews. Goodluck to everyone!
  10. GAgirlinMA...goodluck with MGH! I know how you feel! The waiting is so frustrating. I was accepted into the January 2012 cohort. I decided to drop the waitlist for the May 2011 class, so that's one less spot you have to worry about. Best of luck!
  11. I got a phone call this morning
  12. I have been admitted to MGH ABSN but now that heard back from UMass I'm starting to wonder what are the pros/cons of these two programs. Both seem like great programs, same degree at both, they cost the same (I am out of state student so I'll end up paying about the same) but what I really want to know is the NATURE of these programs. Any current/former students have any advice???
  13. I got an interview! :)!! yay!
  14. congratulations to those accepted! I was offered early admission to the January class in 2012 also.
  15. I got accepted to my first choice school! :yeah: Over the moon with excitement but also pretty scared of the 14month accelerated BSN thats to come. I want to read up on anything nursing to start preparing. Does anyone have any advice for awesome textbooks or anything to start getting prepared that helped you? -Thanks!:)
  16. I feel ya nurse916! I'm on the west coast too and charging the mailman everytime he arrives. Hoping to hear today or tomorrow! Goodluck! :)
  17. i called the mgh offices today and the voicemail said that they will be closed until January 4th...so im guessing we'll find out around the 5th. Last year they found out around that time also. Goodluck to all! :)
  18. thank you! im just so nervous...i want to hear back already
  19. my chemistry lifeline was hiring a tutor ( a lot of college tutors charge about $10/hour). Sometimes reading the book and notes is no good and having someone put it in their own words makes a world of a difference. It was a lot of money for me at the time but after getting an A the money was well worth it!
  20. does anyone have any info about when we should be hearing back from admissions?
  21. MGH is definitely my top choice for a lot of reasons. I visitedearly this year and loved the hospital. I hear a lot of good feedback from people there. Another reason is that my significant other is starting his residency there next year (and for the next 4 years) so it would also be extremely convenient and awesome if we both went to MGH. I'm also applying to UMassBoston, Simmons, and Curry. Its soooo hard waiting to hear back until Dec/Jan
  22. Hi all! I just turned in my MGH ABSN app today!!!Yaayy!!!! Sooo nervous! I was wondering if those applying wanted to share their experiences here. Goodluck!
  23. Hi I'm also in the same boat as you...well kind of. I'm applying to some of those schools also (turning in my MGH app this wednesday!). My cumulative GPA is 3.1 and I have a prereq GPA of 3.6. I don't have any formal work experience but I have been volunteering at a hospital for sometime now. i don't really think that retaking any classes will boost your GPA that much more. I think retaking classes is more for people with C's because the difference is more dramatic them going from a B+ to an A. I think schools really like diversity and it looks like you have had a lot of other experiences that could be valuable to nursing. Well those are my two cents but I'd also like some advice from people in the program. My big concern is: Will being from California hurt me?
  24. Thanks for the heads up. I hear getting a job in Boston. I plan on going there just for school and eventually coming back to california to find a job. There's just so many schools in boston that it gets so competitive :/
  25. wow that's interesting. No wonder I was so confused about the deadline being after the start date. I guess if I get in I have a whole year to save up some $$$ :)
