  1. Passed AANP today .... thought it was harder than the ANCC exam that I passed yesterday! Good luck to everyone!
  2. Hi Everyone! I took and PASSED the ANCC FNP exam today! I am taking the AANP FNP exam in the morning so I will let you know how it goes. I did a Barkley and Fitzgerald at home review (CDs), read the Leik book twice, did the Fitzgerald review book and questions, did the Zerweck review book and questions, and attended a Necessary NP review by Marye Dorsey Kellerman! Good luck to everyone! Aaron, MSN, FNP-BC, RN, CEN, CPEN, WCCM
  3. I too was accepted to the post-masters Acute Care NP program at USA. However, I am going to deny my admission offer as I decided to attend Saint Louis Universities post masters ACNP program instead.
  4. Hi - I got an e-mail from (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) congratulating me on being accepted to the Family NP program. However, I recently graduated with a post-masters FNP certificate and applied to the Acute Care NP program at USA. I emailed her and she said that she must have been given the wrong e-mail addresses and she would check with the administration ..... still waiting .....
  5. I have never attended that school; however, I think that $20K+ is very expensive for an LPN program. With $20K, I was able to pay for my BSN and 1/2 of my MSN. Are there other schools in your area that are cheaper? What made you choose this school? Just my P.S. Congrats on choosing the nursing profession! Good luck!
  6. I am a board Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). However, I would encourage you to find a position that you like and will allow you to develop a strong skill set. After working for a few years in your speciality is the right time to consider pursuing board certifications. One note - many certifications require at least 2 years of nursing experience before you can test. Good luck and welcome to the nursing profession!! - Aaron, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN
  7. Congrats!! :) ________________________________ Aaron, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN
  8. Hi again - I felt as if the CPEN exam was very straight forward. I felt as if some of the DeBoer questions were very easy whereas others were dead on in relation to the complexity of CPEN questions. All in all, I felt as if that book prepared me well for the exam. Good luck!
  9. LunahRN - Sorry for the delay in responding. I checked on the MedEd website and it looks like they only offered the discount until July 5th. Nonetheless, I felt as if their review was well worth the money and besides it offers 16 CEU hours. Good luck!! - Aaron
  10. I really enjoyed the CPEN review from MedEd. It was presented by Melissa Weir who was an amazing speaker and very knowledgable about pediatric emergency nursing. It covered some topics that are not routinely seen such as volvulus, intussuseption, etc. I think they are having a 4th of July special for 25% off so it might be a lot cheaper. The access is for 1 year and you get 16 contact hours. I am using MedEd's online CEN review now and hope to pass the CEN exam within the next few weeks. Good luck on the CPEN!
  11. Congrats on scheduling your exam. I took and passed the CPEN exam last Monday. I studied for about 3 weeks using Scott DeBoer's CPEN review book, ENA's Pediatric Core Curriculum, ENPC text, and MedEd's online CPEN review. With these resources, I felt extremely prepared for the exam. Good luck and thank you for your dedication to pediatric emergency nursing. :) - Aaron, MSN, RN, CPEN
  12. I agree with Outerisland - why do you feel intimidated? I have been in healthcare in a number of roles for the last several years, most recently as an RN, and honestly can say that I have never been treated any differently that any of my female counterparts. We have a great working relationship as they value what I have to bring to patient care and vice versa. Also, it should not matter that there are only 2 men that are nurses working at your facility - a nurse is a nurse :). Why do you feel that you would be the "scape goat?" And just FYI, it might not be such a great idea to start a conversation (as you did in your posting) that you are a "straight" male because then it could portray you as a "douche" that you described. I am also straight, but don't begin a conversation with it. If I want to share my personal life with others then I do when the time is right - but remember, you are there to work and establishing trusting and respectful relationships with your co-workers is essential. Good luck in your new position. - Aaron, MSN, RN
