Need to interview an RN...Please????
I do not know any nurses and I need to ask a nurse a few questions. I am a first year BSN student. I could ask the questions on the forum or in private email. I would really be greatful if someone could help me. The questions relate to current heathcare issues. Thank you.

Am I deluding myself?
This post is for vegas2009. I'm sorry but all schools do NOT count all of your coursework. It is not SOP. University of Missouri is just one of the 3 that omitted 8 of my courses from my gpa that would not transfer. I have attended enough colleges (7) to know what I am talking about. They also didn't calculate my intro nursing, fundamentals, psych nursing, childbearing, etc., all of which I received A's in at Goldfarb School of Nursing. I just needed a letter from my previous nursing school stating I am able to return. I was accepted into every nursing program to which I applied. Just had to make the decision. I was very fortunate. I even turned down one college that gave me a over a 50% scholarship. Too far of a drive. I wish all of you luck!!!!

Necrotizing fasciitis aka flesh eating virus
That's funny because that is exactly the type of mentality I encountered in the OR. None of the nurses or CRNA staff wanted to enter into the room of a neurosurg patient that had creutzfeldt jacobs disease. I was volunteered for the job and gladly accepted. I mean come on people. It's not like you are going to get the brain in your mouth. Get real! I wish there were more nurses like you out there!

Preparing for A&P I
Most seem to have problems with the lab portion. Find out if you are doing any dissection. For example most colleges dissect a cat. A&P I is usually the muscles of the cat. You also have to know the human bones and muscles. You really need to see the syllabus to know exactly what to study. Otherwise you will spend so much time studying the things they won't ask of you. If you want to start studying early just study the major muscles of the human body and all the bones. For now just be able to identify what bone is what. The best bet is to look at your required textbook or buy an anatomy book online or at the bookstore. I would recommend Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. I used it in both of my gross anatomy courses. I also like Gray's Anatomy. I usually use both manuals because you may find one has something the other doesn't. This may be overkill because your required text is usually sufficient. I have taught A&P in the past and know the only way to get an A is to spend a lot of time with the models/cat/eye etc. If you have to do dissection buy the dissection guide and read it. Try to learn the major muscles on the cat as well. It will be easy if you just pay attention to which way the fibers run. It's good you won't have to know tendons, ligaments, and nerves (and what they innervate). Much more work. Good Luck!

Am I deluding myself?
I have personally visited and talked to 8 nursing schools. Each college did a transcript evaluation of my records. I have attended 7 different colleges with over 215 credit hours of coursework and a BS in biology. Each school calculated my gpa differently. Some had taken all of my coursework and calculated a gpa. Some only took the courses they were able to transfer. For example a few wouldn't transfer in gross anatomy because they didn't offer any courses with human dissection. I would personally talk to the college and have them do a transcript evaluation after you send in all your transcripts. This is really important. It will determine your overall gpa. I don't understand how you can't calculate your gpa from your past coursework. If they didn't calculate it you can do it yourself. Just take your grades and use a gpa calculator online. You may have a 3.2 depending on how your grades transfer. I have heard of schools using the last 30 credit hours or just grades from your last institution. Try to get the transcript evaluation before you talk to a counselor, it will save you both a lot of time and make her job easier. I really hope you can find a way to work it out. Good luck!

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tradional nursing program
I was accepted into the traditional. Didn't apply for the accelerated. I don't have enough time on my hands to compress my courses.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tradional nursing program
I received my conditional acceptance letter in the mail last Friday. I have around a 3.5 prerequisite gpa. My TEAS score was 96 percent overall and I have 4 years of hospital experience. I only had 3 credit hours of prereq coursework taken at EMU. I hope this helps you gauge the point system better. Good luck everyone!
