I have the opportunity to work on base at the military hospital. The offer is for full time and I was hoping to have the option to go down to part time or per diem in the future should I need to but I heard that GS nurses don't do part time or per diem. Is that true?

I’m considering moving from California to the Bradenton/Sarasota area. I’m a single mom, renting, wondering how affordable/doable this area of Florida is on a BSN RN salary with 5 years experience? I’m a postpartum/mother-baby nurse, I’ve been on days for a while and can’t imagine going back to nights. Is it typical to have to do nights and wait for a day shift position to open up? Thanks

Oh I wish I could do nights, I've been rotating for the last couple years and nights are really hard for me. Just can't seem to get used to them.

I lived in the inland empire for several years and would say that is too far of a commute. Some may be willing to do it but with traffic and a 12 hour shift I would say most wouldn't want the drive.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm looking through all kinds of boards, joined gypsy and the Facebook group to try to learn as much as I can. My other dilemma is that I'm a mother/baby nurse wanting a specific location and shift so my options are limited with agencies.

I'm a new traveler possibly going to the San Diego area. The pay offered seems low and I've read the only way to see if you're getting a fair deal is to compare the offer with other agencies. I'm wondering how I can do that without signing up for a bunch of agencies and doing all the skills check, references, ect that they require. Will agencies give a pay rate without hassling a traveler for info? And if I decided to get insurance through the agency should I expect a big decrease in take home pay? My offer for San Diego is: $22/hr pay rate x 36 hours/week = $792/week gross / $620/week net after taxes (I should be getting 1.5 pay after 8hrs so I'm guessing $22 is the blended pay making it even less per hour) $35/day meals per diem (nontaxable) x 7 days/week = $245/week + $3075/mo housing subsidy (nontaxable) = $710/week $620 + $245 + $710 = $1575/week take home after taxes + travel reimbursement No insurance and no guaranteed shifts Thanks!

Congrats! I'm not sure, I filled it out but haven't heard anything yet. I haven't lived in PA for two years but they didn't request any additional information when I answered no to that question.

Sounds like you have a pretty good chance if you were asked to shadow. If you don't hear anything after a week it might be a good idea to follow up with your interviewer.

Yes they did. And the thing is, the nurse manager submitted everything Monday and I didn't get a call until Friday evening. So it can definitely take a full week before talent acquisition calls. I did touch base with my nurse manager (she said it was okay to call her) so that helped somewhat but she was not able to offer the position only TA can give the official offer.

Steph my manager also said to give her a call if I didn't hear anything next week. Hopefully that's a good sign for me

Bunny-Congrats! Steph- that's good to know! I'm hopeful, the nurse manager went into detail about how the Pittsburgh people make the call with the offer and should hear something next week. She also replied to my thank you email and said "it was good to meet you... we will be in touch". I'm just so anxious because it's an area and hospital I want to be at and right now I'm driving an hour each way for a job in an area I don't care for much.

I just had my dream job interview that went really well at a UPMC hospital. The nurse manager said the next step in the hiring process is that she lets the Pittsburgh people know who will then make the phone call with an offer. Do they still call even if you don't get the job? I'm really anxious and praying this is it.

So I have two offers after searching forever. One is at a large hospital within a good size network of other local hospitals in a med-surg position. It's farther from family, day/night rotation, new city for me. The other option is psych nursing-small town hospital but with day shift closer to family (possibly do float to med-surg as well but it's still a small hospital compared to what I'd like to get into eventually. Ultimately I want to do nicu nursing in California (very competitive) or something maternal-child health. I think the psych nursing would work better for my situation right now (single mom) trying to do an online BSN program but I'm scared I'll be limited in my options by doing psych in a small town hospital. I think I may be happier in the bigger town with more to do and better experience but the day/night thing really worries me. Any advice? I have to decide rather quickly.

My check was cashed June 5th and didn't receive att until August 30.

I took mine out of state at 5am Pst 9/8/14 and around 530am PST 9/10 my license was posted. I had been checking since midnight because I read that's when it updated but apparently it can be updated later. Edited to add that this was for Ca Bon and it was posted on Breeze.
