  1. Congratulations on passing your NCLEX!! Love the post!
  2. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the nursing program! I wish you all the best of luck. They have made a few changes to the upcoming semesters (some of those won't stick for long). I just finished nursing school at El Centro, and it has been something else. I am selling all my textbooks in case anyone is interested in them please DM me. Also, if anyone has any questions, feel free to reply to my post and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge. Take the summer to relax, and spend time with your family and friends while you can. Remember, you are only human, and you can only do so much, but believe in yourself, because El Centro/NorthLake will test your patience many times! NOW KICK SOME BUTT!! :)
  3. You will get a list of books. It will be the two package options. Those include all the codes and all the books for school. The lab package is separate and you can't buy those things used. You will get everything you need in the skills pack for the 4 years except a stethoscope and maybe a few small things. You don't have to purchase the books at orientation. You have time to chose what you want to do. I have only used a few of the codes stuff. Like the sim chart for skills and the skills videos.
  4. I am going into my 3rd semester at El Centro and HONESTLY I wouldn't buy the books from the school. Look at how much all the books cost you. I am going into third and have only used my Pedi, OB, Med Surg, Fundamentals, Giddens Concepts, Varicolis, Dosage Calculations, patho book, Pharmacology, and Case Study book so far. I would suggest buying used books. Or even an older edition. First semester you might get a chapter reading list;however, moving on you will not. All we get is the concept and we have to find what to read in each book. Sometimes the ebooks come in handy with that but regular books work fine because you can just go to the table of contents in the back and find what you need. You will need some codes for stuff online like SIM Chart, and skills videos. Those you can purchase individually. All the stuff I purchased (ebooks and print version) I haven't even used 25% of it. I know plenty of people who have bought an older edition, or a used book, and then purchased the codes as they need them. I have a few of the books in PDF version that I can sell for cheap for who wants them; I have the Fundamentals by Potter/Perry, OB by Lowdermilk (Maternity), Med-Surg by Lewis, Patho by Huether, Pharmacology by Lehne, and NCLEC by Saunders. So just figure out what it costs you to purchase books vs the whole darn package. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy it from the school( or rather company who up sells it).
  5. My e-mail is [email protected] Feel free to contact me with any questions. I might be able to help with some notes etc. I have my 5th exam today, followed by a 4 hour Psych post conference, so if i don't answer right away don't be alarmed.
  6. It is VERY unorganized. I had a horrible first semester since they were short on staff. My clinical teacher quit on me one clinical in. WE had to make up our entire clinical the week before the HESI which is 30% of our final grade in all classes. It is throughout, not before. Just be ready. It is very stressful! I think i cried the first week alone a few times. lol The important part is figuring out how to study. I wish the school would have included a "Test Taking Class" first semester because I feel like we could have all benefited from learning the little tips and tricks they suggest for nursing students.
  7. Also, keep up with your shot stuff because SentryMD sucks. They will not remind you when you need shots etc like they should, so keep track of when those are due.
  8. Hello ALL!! Congratulations on everyone who got in, and those who didn't don't lose HOPE! I am finishing my 2nd semester right now and not too long ago I was in your shoes. I had someone in my class who got a phone call at 9 pm the night before orientation for 1st semester and got told to attend because he got in! So people will turn down spots and the school will call/email/send a letter to you. Firstly, take this summer and ENJOY IT! :) Secondly, El Centro is very unorganized with a lot of last minute things to do. Keep in mind with that and let your jobs etc know what to expect soon. It is doable, hard and very stressful but doable. The professor who was teaching first semester when I started is leaving unfortunately. So I cannot tell you anything about your lecture teacher. Your schedule will be as follows: Lecture once a week,PNC (professionalism class) once a week, Skills 2 times a week, and of course clinical. If you have the option chose the VA hospital for clinical, you will actually get experience there ( I didn't chose this blindly), the other ones are all nursing homes! If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me! Also, DO NOT BUY THE STUPID book package from the school! Rather buy the ebooks only or buy your own used books! I made the mistake of buying ebook and print and I barely use the print. I have some books in PDF format if anyone wants to purchase for cheap. You can put this on your laptop, tablet, even open it on your phone. Good luck guys and be prepared to work hard! You all can do this!!!!! :)
  9. There is a doctor in Mesquite, its called Family Vital Practice, i think its 67 or 76 something like that for a visit. I am a current ADN student and that's where I went do my physical. They are very busy so either go early without an appointment or call and make an appointment.
  10. Yayyyyyy!! Wish i would have applied myself, but I didn't feel comfortable with 33 points! Congrats to you!!
  11. Well girl i wish you good luck, and i heard about the whole interview thing being changed since ECC didn't get the list to Methodist yet. I accepted ECC i couldn't wait risking it and waiting another semester.
  12. Omg Summer! You declined ECC girl I had no idea! Let me know if you get in! Best of luck to you, what job did you get hired on to??
  13. How many points are you applying with??
  14. I'm not sure yet. I think I will accept ECC if I get accepted. Because Methodist only has 10 slots and I'm not too confident with 32 points.
  15. sdr i see that you comment on the El Centro Northlake thread too. If you get into El Centro are you accepting it? Or declining and applying at Methodist?
  16. I applied at El Centro as well. I figured you can see if you get in at El Centro before you apply at Methodist, and decide. El Centro letters or emails go out May 15, and Methodists deadline is not till the 20th so you have a few days to decide.
  17. Hello there! I am also applying to the Methodist program for Fall of 2014 with 31 points at the moment. I am planning to take my HESI one more time before submitting my application to see if I can get a few more points. Last semester the highest applicant was with a 34 so sdr0123 you are golden to get in! I was also at the information session on January 29th and hopefully we all get in! :) Anyone applying to regular El centro this time along with Methodist?
  18. Hey there! Yeah I wouldn't bother with the Evolve review book I used it to study and only got a 64 on the test! It does not go into enough detail. I am taking the test for a second time on February 1st. When I took the test before, questions about what glands are secreted by what hormone, egg fertalization ( where does it occur), layers of the skin, heart and what arteries carry blood away and to, also the valves of the heart, examples of joins ( ex ball and socket is shoulder), also study the different body systems. If you need more information feel free to message me, or reply on here. I used a cliff notes study guide and also my A&P book from lecture.
  19. Hi there! Are you taking the HESI A2 for nursing admission or the NCLEX? If you are taking the HESI A2 I have some stuff that might help you. I am also taking mine for a second time on February 1st.
  20. Hello all, First off, I would like to wish everyone the best of luck!! Second, this will be my first time applying to the El Centro ADN program. I have previously applied to the TWU BSN program, and have had no luck, with a high GPA at that. I currently have 20 points, and that is without my HESI. I have not yet taken the HESI, but am signed up to take it in March. I have taken the TEAS V for TWU before, and am not sure how the TEAS compares to the HESI. Any insight from previous applicants would be appreciated! :) -Nela87
  21. Hello all. First off good luck to you all. I heard back from TWUs BSN the other day and I did not get in. I am applying for fall 2013 for the Methodist / El Centro Program and am currently volunteering. You guys are all so close... I'll be praying for you all:-) one more day.
  22. Just think of it this way you are third, some people will decline and some won't even check their email within the time frame. You are in! If not tomorrow within a few days for sure! You need to keep in contact with the school as well. Keep checking if anything has changed this is what helped my boyfriend as well
  23. Yeah I see that now. I didn't think the previous bachelors degree mattered, but I guess I was wrong. Thank you and best of luck to you as well!
  24. That must be nerv wracking! You have awesome stats. I'm surprised you already did not get in! I'm sure you will receive an email soon! Best of luck to you.
  25. So she told me that I'm pretty far down the list and that I should apply elsewhere. Wow. That's shocking.
