Hi, There is also a positive side to it. there are people that use it as a platform to educate the other nurses and the public abouts issues, new medical advances, and etc. It's a way to network with others, to relate to other, to ask questions. I could say it's similar to allnurses.com. It's just a bit more modern and somewhat less anonymous. (anyways I still really like allnurses ? )

This article provided an insightful perspective and I'm glad to have read it. On a side note, drug abuse /addiction is an epidemic. That needs to be dealt with more agressively. Drug addiction should be recognized as a disease that needs to treated. In an acute care setting, it seems to be brushed over and enabled. Patients with these issues should be provide resources, a plan, and education ( rehab, counseling, etc). Whether or not the patient is compliant, at least they are more informed and have the choice when they are ready.

Im so glad that you've written this post. Well said and truly needed. I have notice a lot of uncouth responses made by others that were not neccesary. In the past, this has deterred me from sharing some posts. I hope all will read your post and take it to heart.

Hi all, I've been feeling this way for a while. I'm in a field making a difference, but it's not enough. I feel like I'm just meeting a quota, following what has to be done for the patient and send them off home. I want to make an impact in the world...something meaningful. I've considered volunteering in a crisis center. Has anyone felt this way and found the answer?

Is this true that the NCLEX is easier in other states than others? I'm hearing that the nclex is easier in places such as Hawaii. But that doesn't make sense. Why would that be the case? Isn't the test standardized throughout the U.S?

In retrospect I should have spoken to the doctor. at the time i told my charge nurse about the situation. She advise that I attempt to start one. It slipped my mind after the failed attempt. Others have tried before me and failed. The next shift nurse was made aware about situation. The PICC line team is suppose to be coming sometime during their shift. Should I have written a nurse's note staying reason behind not giving antibiotics?

I had a patient who is suppose to get an antibiotic IV around the clock. Now the problem is that she has missed 3 doses due to the fact that she has no. IV access. Now the plan is for her get a midline the next day. Should I reshedule antibiotics or just chart not done? This antibiotic does not come in p.o. form.

Hello all, I have been working at a long term care facility for about half a year. I recently have been offered positions at certain hospitals (yay!). I want to leave in good standing , but prefer to not broadcast this to the ltc company or anyone at the job for that matter. How should I go about this when I approach the DON? How do you guys manage to get out of answering the questions of nosy coworkers.

Hello all, I'm new grad and I have been in a LTC facility for less than 6months. I just don't feel safe in that environment. I want to quit the job. What should I do. Should I give them a 2 weeks notice or just give them the phone call? I just feel that by giving them two weeks notice, word would spread throughout the area and staff could put me in situations that could sabotage my license.

The interview went well but didnt get the position due to the tests. I had to take two test. They were meant to test my competency in ekgs, acls, etc... one of the scores didnt meet their standard of competency.

Haha! I won't be living that one down for a while, and thanks for the tips (and sip of water:D).

I have a job interview tomorrow and one of the things the recruiter asked me to bring was a nursing diploma. I do not have it due to my schools slow order. What should i do?

I was in what i will call a conference with other colleagues. We were seated (in close proximity) around a oval table, and each had a water bottle. At the end of the meeting, everyone was leaving. i was reaching down to get my bottle of water and realized that there was another like 5 inches away from my water. Maybe its my imagination running away with me, but i may have been drinking up someone elses water bottle without realizing it. Thinking back, the water did seem to have a taste, but i attributed this to the plastic itself. Should i be worried?

Hello all, I finally got a job! That morning I went in for my first job interview with home health, but due to my lack of experience, I was rejected. I became a little discouraged, but I was determined to not drive 45 minutes back home in vain, so I went to neighboring health facilities to inquire about job openings for RNs. The second place I visited was a long term care facility. They in fact needed to fill some RN positions. After the interview, they hired me on the spot! Have started this week. A day after I accepted the position, a hospital called me for an interview to work on the tele floor later this week. I will be going to the interview. Now If the hospital hires me, what should I do? Working on the tele floor was what I really wanted to do. At the same time, I would hate to leave the ltc at such short notice. They hired me to work full time and I actually like working there.

I totally understand, I was just reflecting on this and you nearly describe me to the "T". I Look way younger than my age and experience people treating me as a little child. Not all the time, but more than enough to see a pattern. It has become a pet peeve whenever a person calls me 'dear, hun', sweetheart, or one of the latest (although not at work), babe (ugh!). unfortunately there is a stereotype that a young looking face =naive, innocent, immature, childish. Another part of the challenge... I'm reserved by nature. At work, I don't want to be considered stuck up or any other negative labels attached to being introverted, so I try to fit in a little by joining in the joking and fun sometimes, but it doesn't work out all the time, because that's not truly me. I tend to overdo it, and as a result, paints me as an immature person. I may not be the best person for this advice considering I just started out my career as a nurse and I'm still learning what to do myself (haha), but just assess the personality of the person your interacting with, and modify your own behaviors based on this info. But at the end of the day, what matters most is that your showing patients, coworkers, etc. through your work that your a competent and knowledgeable nurse.

I don't know about that, but just google 'nclex cram sheet' and you will find it. It the first hit that pops up.

Hello all, I'm not into writing a lot, but I hope that whatever I will write will help anyone of you. First I want to state a big thanks to many of you who have posted your experiences and study tips, they have certainly helped me. anyways here is a list of what I'd done: my main study resource- virtual ati (school made us use it, and it was helpful, especially with content. Basically you work with a tutor who tells you what activities to work on for the week and then he/she sends you a practice test based on that subject. The tutor looks at your results and gives some some things to do to work on your weak spots, then retests you.) utilized the lacharity priority workbook. borrow up to date nclex books that contain question and answers w/ rationales from the library. do practice questions and/or read up on content everyday prayed before, during, and after the test googled nclex cram sheet or study guides I studied for 3months+ I took the test last Friday of February, shut down at about question 82, few hours later did the pvt and got the good popup, anxiously waited and checked frequently to see if my results were processed. Was too afraid to do pvt 24 hrs later so i didn't do it. two days later, paid for the quick results and found that I passed. It was a hard test, but thank God I passed!
