Don't know where my heart wants to go
Lately I have been having mixed feelings about where do I want to go as a nurse. Before going to nursing school I have always said that I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. Then my maternity rotation came and that changed. The nurse that I was pared with was not nice and just made that experience unpleasant. Then when I graduated I thought that I should not specialized myself in the beginning of my career so that I can be a nurse that knows more than just labor and delivery. So after working in a subacute facility I decided that I should try telemetry, since I always had a passion for the heart :) I have been working on telemetry floor for the past 3 months. I don't feel completely happy there. I am not sure if is the hospital, the low pay, or just the fact that it is not labor and delivery. I love pregnancies and labors. I want to learn everything about it. But I am not sure if this love is just because I have a dream to soon have a baby of my own or because i would really love to work in this environment. Although I love to care for my patients and know that I made a difference in their day, I have noticed that I enjoyed the most when I am doing more of a administrative work. When I was working in the subacute facility, I was the charge nurse. when we get admission, I had to enter all the orders in the system and assess the patient. Something, we had circulator nurses who could help either entering the orders or assessing the patient. I never wanted to assess the patients, I always wanted to be on the computer working on the orders and contact physicians. How can I be sure of what I want? Should I try to make the move and completely change my career from telemetry to labor and delivery nurse? How can I make myself decreed to the L&D manager since I do not have any experience in that area?

Not a new grad, but not a experienced nurse either
Hi, I have been a nurse for two years, however, I found my first employment as a subacute nurse in a SNF facility in San Diego. I worked there for 1.5 years until I finished by RN-BSN program and was able to land an acute care job. I have been working in this hospital for 3 months now and I don't like much. Mostly is the pay, which is very low, they pay me the same I was getting at SNF. For a hospital it is pretty bad. Their turn over is huge as all the new grads leave after getting their experience. And unfortunately, that is exactly what I want to do. They are always short staffed, specially on the CNAs, so I end up having to do everything for my patient. It is not that I mind doing it, but being so busy on a tele floor it takes away from other things that only an RN can do. The problem that I am having now is that I need more money and was looking for a pier diem job. Something that I could do once a week to increase my income. However, I was trying to get a job that would benefit me in getting into the Magnet hospitals in the area that I really want to work for. Any suggestions? I thought in applying to registries, but since I only have 3 months of acute care experience I think they will not accept me. All I have seen is a minimum of 1 yr. At this point I would take anything that would be enjoyable and bring some income. Thanks!

Alvarado hospital pay
I recently got a job offer at Alvarado hospital in San Diego, which I accepted of course, but was surprised with the low pay. I have 1 year experience at skilled nursing so I am not sure if they are considering me a new grad. I will receive 8 weeks of training, which I am thrilled about. Will they increase the pay once I have 6 months there? Or this is it? Alvarado is 30 Scripps and sharp I think around 35 Ucsd 40

I am searching my articles now. I have already 8 of them. I am just not sure how to answer the questions for the "selecting sources of literature" assignment. I am suppose to summarize the abstract? when asks for statistics, am I suppose to say what kind of statistics it was used or stated 80% of people bla bla bla while 20% did not? I am not sure if I am doing it right. grrrr I just wish I could fast forward this 5 weeks.

I am in pathophys doing the CLC project. there is two parts for this assignment, a essay and a dialog. Has any of you guys done that class already? I am confused on the dialog part. How long it has to be? do i just write like I am talking to the patient explaining her condition and providing teaching just like a discharge planning?

I just realized my replied went twice. Sorry!! I am in my 2nd week of spirituality and I have to write a paper comparing 3 different religions and their care philosophy. I am having a hard time finding the information to answer the following questions. For those of you that have completed this course, where did you find these information? I have been google so many different ways and nothing has showed up. I chose to write about shintoism, buddhism, and muslim. 1. What is important to people of a particular faith when cared for by health care providers whose spiritual beliefs differ from their own? 2. How do patients view health care providers who are able to let go of their own beliefs in the interest of the beliefs and practices of the patient?

I did just like you would in a formal paper. In-text citation right at the end of the sentence then reference page at the end.

I did in-text citation in each column (just like you would in a formal paper, just add the in-text citation at the end of the sentence). then at the very bottom, the last page, I added the references. I hope I am answering your question.

Thank you. So it seems that leadership is a good class to pared with. Every week paper is heavy but if leadership does not take too long to do the assignments may be doable.

Those of you that have completed leadership class do you mind telling me how is the class structured? What are the assignments for each week? Same for trends. I am trying to see how much work will be each week to decide if I combine them or not. Thanks a lot

The problem is that I only realized after she posted my grade on Tuesday. I think we have until Sunday to submit if you post after it does not count. Oh well I am just hoping my both CLC grades will be enough to keep my A.
