Got my unoffical review from Excelsior
Awesome advice everyone, thanks! I will take A&P and Micro for sure at a community college or at the very least an online one with labs. Do I need to take A&P 1 and 2 or just 1? I am also taking college level math in case I do eventually want to get my BSN or MSN. Figure I may as well take it now so I don't have to later.

Got my unoffical review from Excelsior
So I got my unoffical review but I'm not sure what I should take online or just CLEP out. For pre requisites I need; Info Lit: 1.0 Humanities: 3.5 Humanities Core: 2.5 Life Span: 2 Sociology: 2 Additional Social Science: 2 A&P: 4 Microbiology: 2 Science of Supportive Nursing: 2 Then all the nursing requirements of course... When I looked at the catalog for the requirements are they were a little different like only 3 for for humanities not 3.5 but I guesd I should take to a counselor about that right? Any input on my classes and what I should do? Thanks

Will do! I was stationed in Fort Bliss. I was supposed to go to Korea but when they took my blood I was pregnant. I was really excited to go too! But I got to work in the TMC and do some neat stuff.

Just applied online for Excelsiors!
Sounds good to me too! I am also a mom of a soon to be 3 year old boy (December 23rd) and the second boy is due Jan. 13th! I'm taking math and interpersonal communications at the community college here right now. I am waiting for my unoffical review before I decide what to next. I'm thinking I will tak A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology online w/labs and then do the testing for whatever else I need to get done. Can't wait to get started!

Question for Excelsior students
I called because I couldn't find the gerneral ed requirements online:uhoh3: and the lady didn't mention anything about math or history. But she gave me the following classes I would need to take: Freshman level english, humanities, lifespan development physch, sociology, A&P 1&2, microbiology, information literacy, and seven elective credits. Does that sound about right? No math or history? If I have taken them would they count as electives? I have taken nutrition and english compostion and am currently taking problem solving (college level math) and interpersonal communications. Thanks for any advice. I

Question for Excelsior students
I am looking into taking the AS in nursing program online. I have been taking prerequisites at the local community college but since I am due with my second child in Janurary it won't be easy to keep going to school with two kids. Here is a little of my previous work background; after working in a pharamacy for a year I joined the Army and went through 68w (or medic) AIT. I never failed a written test once and the practical exams on people were a breeze. Briefly after leaving AIT I found out I was pregnant so after working in the TMC on post for 8 months I got out at 35 weeks pregnant. Since then I haven't worked anywhere that I was able to do stuff as invasive as at the TMC (shots, I.V's, std screening, stitches etc) so its been almost three years since I've done any real hands on clinical work, though I was a home aide for a year before moving to another state. I am going to get my CNA at the community college (sometime after baby) so I can work part time in the medical field again. Anyways, can someone explain how the tests work? Do you have study material and then take the test so many weeks or months later? I still need to take A&P and Microbology at the school and I am taking my last two non science general ed courses online after baby is born (hopefully). If I call Excelsior will they tell me what general ed classes I need to take? I think I would like to finish them at the community college because its less expensive(maybe. the one I got too is more then the one my sister goes to and she lives in California!). I have checked mith the nursing board in my state and a nursing degree from Excelsior is accepted. Any other information would be wonderful and greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!!!:D:D

Getting into a nursing program in Cheyenne
I moved to Cheyennne eight months ago and started my pre requistes at LCCC. I was just wondering how hard the program is to get into. I know they do it by grades and a point system (My gpa is ok. I have a 3.0 because I decided to take a 5 credit math class along with two other classes at the same time). I was just wondering if anyone got rejected the first they applied or if they got in right away. Did you take all the prerequistes before applying or just some? I have four classes left after this semester and can only take two online this spring since I am due with my second child in Janurary. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Qick question about Excelsior
Thanks everyone for your replies. I think I'm going to talk to them and finish the general ed classes at the community college and take my nursing theory at Excelsiors. I'm also going to take the CNA class and CNA clinicals at the community college so I can brush up a bit. I just read a post about taking I.V. certification so I guess that's also something else I will need to look into. Thanks again!

Qick question about Excelsior
So I have started my prereq's for my local community colleges nursing program and I have a 2 year old and am 19 weeks with my second. I was a medic in the Army for a year but got out when I had my son. Excelsior says I am eligible for applying to the RN program (which would fit my life 100 times better than the community college route) but I am concerned because its been a while since I've worked with I.V's, shots and interacted with actual patients. I was a home health aide for a girl with cerebral palsy so I am fairly current with lifting procedures etc. Anyways, does anyone have some advice? I don't want to complete the program then feel like an idiot when I get a job if I haven't been sufficently taught. I am a quick learner though so it may not be a problem. Thanks everyone!! Sorry for the typo in the title I really can spell!

I want to be a nurse but
The closer I get to getting my pre requisites done the more nervous I feel. I am afraid of messing up and not knowing what to do in a emergency situation. I worked in a TMC on an Army base for a year and loved it. I drew blood, gave shots, helped with pap smears, stiches, minor procedures etc, but I've never worked in a hospital and I'm afraid I'll get overwhelmed during clinicals. I know that nursing is what I want to do, I want to help people. I've been looking at other majors but I really can't imagine doing anything else. Any suggestions how to make myself feel more confident and just do it? Thanks
