  1. For a social I propose Saturday July 10th around 3 PM. You may bring your kids and/or your well behaved dogs, yourselves, something to share. The only thing I would appreciate you not bringing is beer/wine/liquor. Don't worry we aren't crazies, you don't have to worry about being PC or proper or non-offensive: I just don't drink or have it in or around my house. If this date is workable let me know. If you are coming - send me a PM with an idea of who and what you want to bring and I will send you an address and directions.
  2. I took stats online at Clackamas and the only really difficult part was that we had to "work in groups" in an online class. None of my group members usually showed up in the forum until the day the homework was due so I got in the habit of surfing other groups' forums if I couldn't figure something out and just completing and submitting the homework. Stats isn't hard - It is just not very exciting and there is a lot of reading....that is also not very exciting.. and unlike many other online classes Stats had proctored mid-term and final that really took the full 2 hours. Hope that helps.
  3. I also had 60 points when I applied.
  4. I work in the am and the pm from thursday-monday with a 5 hour break from 12-5. Tuesday and Wednesday I do not work. Any of these times will work for me.
  5. Tiff can you switch those classes and take Micro in the summer and Stats in the fall? Or stats next summer since you have 3 years to get it done?
  6. I took it at PCC Central campus. It was effeciently run and relatively painless.
  7. The info from the PCC advising office was that last year it was Mon, Tue, 8-3 class/lab, wed off, and Thur Fri 7-3 clinical. They are not sure it will be the same (thanks to tiffinapit who gathered that info for us) when we get our packets the 3rd week of june we might know more. The standard answer from the nursing program advisors I have got from most schools is "don't plan to work the first year." you pull 12-15 credits of difficult material per term and that doesn't include any Gen Ed classes you might need to round out your credits. My personal advice from other nursing students was to take Micro and Stats before you start the Nursing Program because they are heavy load classes - I took that advice and I am glad I did because they were both pretty text/study intensive. Hope that helps.
  8. I assume most of you have taken stats? I am wondering if once the program starts all of us masochistic over achievers will settle in to a standard bell curve on grades now that there isn't all the entry pressure? Anyone care to speculate?
  9. Two terms of "college level" means 200 level or higher, for which as I read it, the 100 level series is pre-req? so that would be almost 2 years. I am hoping to eat up 12 of my upper level humanities credits in ASL at 300 and 400 lvl at WOU so I will take 2 years either way (or the summer accelerated) but if you have no HS foreign language i don't think you can just take 101 and 102 and be done w/foreign lang. The things I have read have specified 200 level or above.
  10. When I took BI112 at Clackamas there were two women who had already completed all of their nursing coursework and were taking 112 in the summer because they couldn't graduate without it. I would definitely urge you to go talk to advising about it rather than end up in the same position.
  11. I am going to mexico on friday for a week the weekend of the 26th-27th would be the earliest I could BBQ - that is about how long it will take for my yard to be dry, and we should have our little information bomb from PCC by then so we could conceivably all scratch our heads and pore over it together. I appreciate the info that you gathered for us!! I am now wondering where I am going to get my 2 years of foreign language + 15 upper level classes in the next three years without losing my mind. I am however going to commit to not stress about it until I receive my packet.
  12. Trust me I have been trying to talk her into going to PCC but Clackamas is much closer to her and she has had her mind set on it for some time. There won't be any talking her out of it. On the bright side she is giving up her seat to PCe saitiC, so if you are on the waiting list there the list is about to start moving!! I hope you get called! Good Luck!
  13. So why not take Stats and Writing as your gen ed credits fall and winter then? What else are you going to take to round out your full time status? Or are you only taking PT status?
  14. It is my understanding that you take WR123 OR 224. I am taking stats now, my final is monday. I am taking this summer off, it will be the first (and last) in this whole process. I might take the CNA 2 class in August if a spot opens up though. I think if I can get on PT as a CNA 2 while I am in school then I can more easily move into a nursing job when I graduate. Tuition assistance would be nice also... :) As for financial aid students have said that you have to take a gen ed class to maintain your FT status but I suspect there will be info in the packet they are sending out in a few weeks... And never trust the advisors on matter of Financial Aid!! I am going to take ASL I and II over the next few years, then use III and IV at WOU for 12 of my 15 upper division creds for BSN. I suppose I have revealed enough of my master plan for now!
  15. Would you care to join us in the Fall 2010 PCC thread where we can hatch plots for how to spend the summer.. plotting to take over the school bwahaha... er.. at least review A&P while lawn bowling and eating BBQ. Is there a significance to your screen name? I ask because am looking for a home for a lovely 2 year old hedgehog.
  16. So haircut and hedgehog.. what did you guys decide?
  17. I would love to do A & P review, still have all my notes and labs etc. I have an extremely conveniently located base of operations for these things being near PCC Sylvania and my allegiance can be purchased with Salsa!! Bocci isn't really a sport.. it is more like lawn bowling! I have the perfect yard for it because we have a half orchard and garden boxes that make good obstacles. SO SO SO excited!! I can barely focus on finishing up my classes this term - I have one final left and no remaining excuses not to study.
  18. OHH!! Great!! And you were worried about getting in... :) My good friend got her letter today too, which makes me a little sad because she won't be going to PCC with me. But maybe now you will get my best study buddy!! Congrats!!! Doesn't it feel so so so good??:yeah:
  19. Hehe.... I am glad for you Andie... And some of us will see you spring term 2012 when we transfer to OHSU!
  20. Hello ladies! (and gents) I think those of us who are going to PCC starting in fiall of 2010 should have an icebreaker event or two over the summer. With all the other pressures that we will be facing in the fall the "new kid" stress is at least one thing we can avoid eh? Anyone have any suggestions? I have a backyard near PCC with lots of green space for a BBQ/Bocci Ball tournament toward the end of the summer but it doesn't get really dry (i,e. not swampy grass) until mid to late July. It might also be fun to get a kickball game together?
  21. Did they say when they are going to notify?
  22. At the top of someone's message under their name it says "registered user", to the right there are 4 little icons, one of them is to send a private message. Just hover over the icons it will tell you what they do. Abe is hard but fair, and he's really nice and really funny! Passing isn't too hard, it is getting an A that was really a challenge. Do the extra credit assignment, study for the tests and quizzes. Create a special symbol to use or color of highlighter for when he says "you should know this" or "did you hear that?" or "this is fair game for the tests". You will be fine.
  23. Furman is Hard. Get a seat as close to the podium as you can, he doesn't speak very loud. Buy the cheap first edition of the book, there is nothing in the newer edition that you need. In fact I got mine online for about $4. I also have the full lab manual which is loose leaf so I could not sell it back. Providing the edition hasn't changed I would sell you both for a very nominal fee. When you take the lab quizzes do not let the first (easy) one fool you. There is no study guides for the lab section like there is for theory, and there are a lot of technical questions on the labs. I don't know if it was just our class because of Summer schedule - but we didn't get to actually do most of the labs. We only watched demonstrations of them. That wouldn't have been a problem if there weren't so many procedure questions on the tests. If you can close your eyes and correctly recite all the steps, and chemicals, used in the lab and what their purpose was as well as what type of Agar is used etc.. then you will be ready. Know how many water washes there are in a gram stain, know which chemical indicators cause what color changes etc. Other than that, anything on the study guide pages.. and that means ANYTHING no matter how seemingly irrelevant can show up on the tests. Most importantly- check your tests! We had multiple incidences of 1 test at the table having answers marked wrong that everyone else at the table (with the same answer) were marked right. If you can't find his answer somewhere in the text, notes, or study guide then take it back to him for your points.
  24. there is a 1 year option to complete the bs at ohsu post aas graduation. it just takes digging to find it. you do have to take online classes which is $100+ more per credit, and you would have to take upper level classes in the summer to get it all in. :)
  25. For the PT program at MHCC I know an interviewee who was just told last week that Patho is entirely online. FYI. I only ruled MHCC out of my application process because it is really far away for me to go, and because they didn't give me credit for my CNA or Work experience because their cutoff was really high (compared to other schools). Not having a previous degree I just didn't have discretionary points there so I didn't pay to apply. It also brings back memories of high school which wasn't a happy time in my life!! hehe. I didn't apply to Clackamas because my few run-ins with the nursing dept in my two years there convinced me that I couldn't put up with some aspects of it for two more years. They have a special combination of ineffecient + inflexible that would be impressive if it wasn't standing between me and my destination. They are so content "in the box" that they would deny that there is a box to think outside of.
