  1. Hi Neir, I wouldn't say it's "hard" (as in the requirements to apply and the process of application) but it's definitely competitive due to the limited number of seats per intake vs. a large pool of applicants per cycle. Good luck!
  2. Congrats for getting the invites! I have been in the program for 2 terms and I have been enjoying my time here in ubc nursing as well. As for the MMI, I, too, did not have much time to really prepare for it as my interview was a day after I was done all my finals in my 4th year. The questions themselves were quite a mixture of nursing ethics, critical thinking, current healthcare issues, and personal aspirations. I tried reading up on the CRNBC webpage but, IMO, it didn't really help me in any direct sense during the interviews. However, reading up about nursing standards and nursing roles did help me to get a sense of what nurses do professionally, which gave me some basis to form my answers at the MMI. Hope this helps and good luck to you all! :)
  3. Hi BC Bound If you have time and you are interested, you should join one of their regular info sessions held by UBC Nursing Admission Office. I think they'd give out more info regarding the admission and the structure of the program (or on the FAQ page of their website). Plus you can ask them questions in person too. Good luck!
  4. UBC Nursing only looks at your most recently completed 30 credits to calculate the avg GPA (plus the anatomy and physiology pre-reqs). So I suspect that your RTW would not be a deal breaker. But it's safer to check with the admission office first. They do emphasize quite a bit on extra-curricular activities, so it's good that you have lots of experiences to talk about on the supplemental.
  5. Hi Silverla, Just some insider tips about BCIT, they actually "prefer" applicants with >30 post secondary credits. Many of the selected applicants for this year are either mature students (ie. have secure jobs or are parents) or students who are almost done university or have graduated with a degree already. So if you are only aiming for 30 post-secondary, it's a safer bet if you take some pre-req at BCIT directly to help make your application stronger. As for U of A nursing, they offer different types of nursing programs so you have to choose which one applies for you the most. The 2-year one is only if you already have completed a bachelor degree, whereas the 4-year one, you can apply right out of high school (I think but not 100% sure)...
  6. I am getting excited too!! Oh...I registered in Group 4, I guess we'll meet in class then! Yep, I got my scrubs right on time actually (on July 5th). I ordered them online like 7 to 10 days before that. The sizing is a bit bigger than it is described (or maybe it's just me). Yeah, I was wondering about the same thing too. I went to UBC bookstore yesterday (for random errands) and I went to look around at the nursing textbooks section. There were some used books but not many so I was tempted to get them before they run out...but then again, I am not sure if we'd need newer editions or what not.
  7. Oh...I got my two sets of scrubs online from Aloft. The lady did phone to ask if I'd be interested in purchasing the stethoscope online, but I figured I'd just wait til the orientation week and try out the products first.

    1. I honestly don't know...It can be a myth or it can be a considering factor. But I do know (or think) that they only take into account the most recently completed 30 credits on your transcript...maybe you can email and ask the admission person for better clarification. 2. Sorry, I can't help on that one... If you really want to go into a 2-year nursing program. maybe you can try to apply for the Alberta After-Degree Nursing (only 2 years) if you completed your 4th year next year and will be graduating with a degree. Or try again with UBC Nursing! Good luck!
  9. Is everyone registered?
  10. Hi there, Just a quick question, is there anyone who is also ordering the stethoscope online (along with the scrubs)?
  11. Congrats!!!
  12. thanks for the heads-up!
  13. Hi there, I would really appreciate if someone can let me know if UBC Nursing Program would allow its students to take an extra course outside of the program STT. Thanks in advance!!
  14. Hi dream_girl, From what I know, the deadline for accepted students to respond to offer is June 15th, 2010. Maybe UBC Nursing will know who and how many people to move up from the waiting list after that date? All the best to you! :)
  15. Hi lauralaa, For myself, my only hospital experience consists of volunteering at the ER of Eagle Ridge Hospital for 3 years. FYI, the supplemental does not specifically ask for hospital experience, but more like leadership experience, working with others, etc, plus a personal statement. Good luck!! :)
