  1. I feel the same. I'm constantly asked why I don't get my RN, you'd be a great supervisor or charge nurse, etc. There are many reasons why not. My pay as an LPN in my area is pretty darn close to an RNs pay. I am 35 with a preteen and teen son. My husband has a great job And provides well for us. For me more responsibility isn't worth whatever they want to pay me. I have enough responsibility raising my two wonderful sons and taking care of my family. Don't let anyone make you feel like being a LPN is a career for dumb people. We need smart and good LPNs. Why not be one yourself. Jmho
  2. I finished an LPN program (a 1+1 program), and pretty much for the first few weeks it was all common sense (CNA work) issues! It will pick up and you will learn more. However, with an LPN, the scope of practice is much less than a RN. My program is a LPN program for the first year and RN for the second, so we did have alot crammed down our throats, because they were preparing us for the second year to get our RN's. Everything you learn in LPN school will help you for when you start your RN program!! Just go with the flow and remember, you have a bigger picture of what you want! My first year wasnt hard for me at all, but I know why I had to learn all the info!
  3. Oh, and another thing, in NYS you have to be 18 to be licensed, but can go to schools when you are 17, I've met quite a few students who started when they were 17!
  4. Hi there! I am currently at Delhi in their LPN/RN program, I am starting my second semester of the 2 semester LPN program. I do know that there are alot of LPN's in the program with me, and all originally became licensed through BOCES, but their credentials from there didnt necessarily transfer over. They could've taken the exam to get right into the RN program but it was full and supposedly the test is quite hard and expensive each time you take it. I would recommend applying to the colleges near you that have RN programs. I took my pre-reqs at Broome CC, and Delhi was the only nursing program I applied to. There are ALOT of 18 yr old students in the program, that are taking 18-19 cr hrs a semester to complete the program in 2 yrs (for RN). If you want to become an RN I would suggest just going for it!
  5. I do not, as I have tattoos, and the wait is 12 months in a unregulated state, which is most of them. I usually get some sort of tattoo work done each year!
  6. whoa! thats insanity!!! the delaware boces is roughly $4000. suny delhi has a 1+1 program. first year is lpn, second year is rn. that will run about $4,000 for the year.
  7. Wow, personally I would NEVER do something that I hated. I have the ability to choose if and when I want to work, go to school or just stay home. I sure wouldn't want to be taken care of by a nurse who hates me, because they hate their job. Once you start school, you will know if this is for you. I start in the fall. If it becomes something that I hate, I will stop the nursing program. I will be no good to anyone if I hate my job, no matter what the job is. I am not drawn to nursing because of the money, my husband makes more than enough to support our family. I am drawn to it because I want to be able to make a difference and help people. If that is HONESTLY something that you do not want to do, you will probably hate being a nurse too!
  8. I decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was 18/19. But then I got married, had a son when I was 20. Fell into a GREAT job with GREAT pay. So walking away from it was not an option. Moved out of state with my family, my hubby has a great job where I can stay home with the kids, but they are at school all day, and I was bored! So at 27 decided I wanted to get my degree, finally, so I started very part time at the local community college in my new town. I will be almost 31 when I start the program (this fall). So for me, this has been something I've wanted to do for the past 12 years. With my children being older now, and me not having to work, this is the perfect opportunity to start what I've always set out to do!! :)
  9. I applied and tested and got accepted at the Broome BOCES, Im not going there, but in any event, I think all BOCES use the TABE test, as a general test for entrance. You can find sample ones online to practice off of. I only got 1 wrong, so I am not sure what the cut-off point is. But your best bet would be to STUDY and PRACTICE!!! Good Luck!!!
  10. I have had my LL Bean bag for 2 years, and it has carried ALOT of books for me!! I had a JanSport for about 2 months and the strap broke, after that I bought the LL Bean bag, and it doesnt even look like I have had it for as long as I have. All of the reviews are great, and many people use them for 5-7, all through graduate school!!!
  11. When I took A&P my professor told us that if she made a mistake in grading, then to just go with it. I never had that issue, but she made it clear when discussing the syllabus that it could happen, and if it did, good for whoever she gave the better grade to!!
  12. I am accepted to SUNY Delhi for the fall, in their RN program. Excited, but not quite sure what to expect!
