sorry i posted that when I was tired I meant to say dont get discouraged before you even start classes, keep me updated.

Ugadawg- You are welcome. I know that everyone learns differently (that's from my teaching background). I personally learn best by teaching others, by talking aloud to myself to learn the material, and usually if I read something its in my brain for life (got that from my dad). I think that once you can focus on school you will find the method that works for you. I am attending the Augusta campus. I printed out the med terms and have been trying an activity that has to do with the terms as I feel like I mastered the list. I did purchase the med calculation book and I like it better than the module that is on the course page. I feel like it breaks it down better and the puts all the pieces together so that you can solve simple and complicated drug calculations. I am doing both and feel like I am getting the hang of it. The nurses I work with told me to just sit down and do it because it will get easier the more I practice and before I know it these skills will just be another thing I can do without thinking about it too much. They said know your metric conversions inside and out and that will help tremendously. I am sure you will do great! Just take a step back and breathe. This is the program that you worked so hard to get into, don't get discouraged before you even updated on your progress. As for the Epidemiology book, I found the 2010 on half.com.

Udawg- Lets see, since I am a huge fan of accelerated programs and online self taught classes, let me see if I can give you some advice. As far as the APA stuff, its just writing tips and how to contstruct a professional nursing paper, just get the manual and thumb through it, thats an open book test ( so dont sweat that too much). For the Med Terminology, just print out the lists and carry them with you so you can look them over whenever you have a chance, when you feel like you have some of the terms down, go on the module and click on the activities and try your hand at one of the root word activities for that section. For drug calculation, it is a lot to learn, but if you take it one concept at a time, you will feel less overwhelmed, just sit down and start going through the module, AND your drug calculation book it will explain each method and give you step by step examples, practice questions, and finally a module test so you can test your understanding. If you alternate learning these like one thing everyday you will have a skills mastered in no time, dont feel overwhelemed, I already work in the hosptial and it can be overwhelming but learning this material is really interesting and really rewarding, everything you learn from here on out, will make you a better nurse :) You can do it. Yes, the medical terminolgy/ drug calculations/ apa writing guide are all self taught modules that will have tests that you must pass with an 85% or higher in order to continue on with the program ( at least thats what each module says under 6700). I currently work in an ER as a tech, and I can offer some advice, print out the med term now and start learning it, try to associate it with medical terms and procedures you already know about, it helps you break apart words in the future for their intended meaning. I cant wait to buy all my book, as soon as I register for the classes officially, I am going to get them all :) I hope everyone is as excited as me. I can offer you this advice on all the recommended, the one not to skimp on is the drug guide.. get it new ( all the nurses I work with in the ER use it all the time whenver they have a question about dosing, admin method, or intercations. :)

In regards to apt's in Augusta, since its been 12 years since you have been here, you are going to want to check out each and every prospect for a living space, since some places are really CHEAP because they are more DANGEROUS and a less dersirable place to live. Also, if you live in N. Augusta, you are no longer a GA resident, you become a South Carolina resident. But I have been here for 2 years, not forever, but long enough to know if its cheap its probably in the bad part of town. Good Luck.

I heard that as long as they are mostlyt white you are fine. We probably have to purchase our own white coats, I am sure they will be sending more and more information as the summer goes on.

Mal09 - they might not CASH your deposit check yet, since it goes towards your tuition for first semester. I am sure its fine, I recieved a letter saying that they recieved my deposit about 4 days after I sent it, and remember I live in the same city as the school. I am sure they got it and you are just fine.. PS RELAX :) We all need to enjoy this summer we are going to be studying very hard starting in August for 16 months and we all need to take this summer to enjoy our families before its gets crazy! Mal09 - let me know when you plan on coming to Augusta, would love to show you the townhouse and around the city :) PS I am lucky, I already work in a hospital so all my vacs and titre tests are all up to date, yay :)

Got my contract in the mail today. Its not a lot of paperwork just some things to return to them saying you are accepting the position in the class at the campus you were accepted to, and a form you send with your 100.00 deposit. I live in Augusta so hopefully those of you outside of Augusta get yours tomorrow. Like I said not a lot of bulk to it, but the official letter is NICE to see and its one step closer to August.

Hey All. I finshed my pre reqs today, yay! Really excited about a fun summer. I am sure we will get out contracts and all the other stuff soon... MCG is slow with paperwork I know that from people I work with and their past experiences, just kick back and relax and it will be there before you know it. ENJOY YOUR SUMMER EVERYONE!! Thanks again for so much info. Congrats on finshing your second semester :) Yay! I am going to try to work Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights, that way I have Sun, Mon, Tues, and Wed nights off. I know for sure I am not going to work on Sunday nights, and if I can get the above schedule I will have all the time I need during the week to succeed. Also, you would be suprised how many hours of studying you can get done in the wee hours of the morning in the ER.. ( lol not suppose to do it, but since we have to sit there and wait for the next pt or EMS we might as well do something constructive) Thanks again Enjoy your weekend! PS. From my experience go through the American Heart Association, most of the time it is the one accpeted by programs and hospitals.

I think that the commercial should convey that it an avenue of reliable information from others just like you whether you are thinking about changing careers, a nursing student in school, a nursing student about to be a new grad, a nurse who is a few years in, or even a veteran nurse. The value of information that we are all able to share with each other is amazing. The commericial should feature people from these groups just stating simply what the site has done for them, make those who arent on the site curious about the site, and also make the commercial convey how we all depend on this site to stay connected in whatever is happening in our lives... in short.. you are not alone, somewhere someone else is experiencing the same feelings or situation.

Thank you for ALL of this information!! I work nights on the weekend and I am going to try to keep that schedule. I am a TECH in the emergency room and I love how my job relates to school. I also will be getting some tuition reim. If it gets too much my boss will let me reduce my hours, but I have good time management and I am a very strong student so I am going to try to keep working ( on the weekends at night). :)

At least that is one thing that I know I have completed. I currently work in an ER and have to keep up with all of my immunizations including annual TB testing and flu shot. :) Looking forward to getting all the paperwork in the mail. How is everyone doing. I am counting down the weeks until my final pre-req is done :)

Good luck to everyone finishing pre-req's I am sure we will all finish with flying colors :) As for financial aid, I wont be much help there, my husband and I dont qualify for financial aid so we will paying the whole thing ourselves and we have opted out of loans(still paying off undergrad loans for the both of us) its going to be a busy summer of working in the ER for me :) Good luck with FAFSA..( I remember those days from undergrad) Post once we start getting our paperwork!

ac2618- I live in Augusta, plenty of places to rent... you should come for a weekend to check the area out. Augusta is very BIG! As for the GPA GRE I think if you have a high GPA you can get by with an okay GRE and vice versa. I am really convinced its the whole package that gets you in. Everyone has different strenths and weaknesses. My GRE wasnt the best but I have a GPA of 3.76 and A's in pre reqs. Also I have my CNA license and I currently work in an ER here in Augutsa, so its eveything all put together... :) Looking forward to meeting the cohort ( haha) of 2010. Does anyone have facebook that got in..that might want to begin chatting over the summer?

Hi Guys! Congrats to all. I also got the great news that I will be starting in Augusta in the Fall as well. So excited... plus its my 27th birthday tomorrow so probably the best present ever! Looking forward to meeting all of you!!!
