BA to BSN prerequisites
I've been so busy for so long immersed in this quest for those precious letters to add behind my name.... I also have children (four) and have a prior degree. When I set out on this journey, I had no idea how tough it would be. I'm not trying to dissuade you, but I do want to warn you about taking the A & P series too quickly (ie rush through the summer.) These are tough classes, and you will need to know as much as you can for nursing school. You will rely upon your knowledge from A & P to get you through some of the tougher classes. Good luck on your journey! Don't lose sight of the goal, and hang in there when it's tough!

Chem and Statistics I
Take Stats live with Nancy Roper. She explains it all so well, and you will really learn it from her.

What choice should I make, Lindfield or PCC OCNE?
Ah, Congrats Lila, I'm thrilled for you. Sad I won't have a buddy to start my classes with at Linfield, but so happy you got what you wanted! See you tomorrow at CPR!
-
PCC RN school schedule??
That's true about Statistics... I actually LOVED it, and highly recommend Nancy Roper who also teaches it very well!

What school are you going to MickiLynn? I'm going to Linfield, and taking mine at the CPRLifeline on Barbur Blvd on June 25. Here's their website: http://www.cprlifeline.com/ but you will need to phone in your registration. Be sure to take the course for Healthcare providers. Have fun! Jen

Larisa, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Do you have another choice, or will you wait out the year, gain some volunteer experience, redo pre-reqs... ? Don't lose hope, and keep persevering. All the best, Jen

Am I crazy?
Congrats Andie, I'm so glad you were able to make your decision. Now you can move forward on your journey! Thanks Barleynhops, I am comforted in your response. I don't have a choice any longer, since the alternate class is full. I will make the most of it, and will aim for the A. It really is nice to already be accepted, and simply need to pass, but really I want A's. Good luck on finals all those still finishing their pre-reqs (like me!)

Thanks Dharma, That's helpful. I should've done the tutorial! what's the difference between send a private message and email? Thanks for the input on Abe, I hear he's hard. I'm getting a little scared now. I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Jen

Dharma, Thanks a mil for the advice. I appreciate it, but now you have me scared!! I have to pass his class, my future is riding on it!! So did you take his class last summer? Sure I'd be interested in buying your used books. Do you know how to send private messages via this forum? I haven't figured that out yet. Cheers, Jen

Andie, I wanted to send a private msg, but can't figure out how... sorry. I did a dry run this morning to Linfield to test traffic getting there for 8 am and found I could make it in time, even with an accident on the I5. How is your decision coming? I am thinking that must be so hard. Like I said, I don't envy you making this decision. I would be "stuck" too. I have to say again though, that I am so happy with the standard of education at Linfield, and to be finished in 21 months is fabulous!! Also, parking is far better in NW than on the hill! ok, enough from me... I know this will send a fresh onslaught of opinions. Good luck making up your mind. BTW, I picked up my CPR book today so I can study ahead for the class. Are you registered for the 25th? See you there! Jen

Oh KurdRn, I'm so sorry to hear it. I have been hoping and praying for you. Like the others said, don't give up. Remember that there are other paths to get to the same destination... have you gotten your CNA? Have you finished the pre-reqs? Are there any you can retake for better grades? I will remember your words and take them to heart if I feel like quitting or complaining. I will count on meeting you as a nurse someday. All the best, Jen Miller

Welcome Hedgehog! Yes, this is a great forum and so helpful to all of us trying to figure this all out on our own... Your question is a good one, and I imagine we should get some good feedback. If not, try making a new thread with this question. I think that most people can only speak on their own school. Did you visit each? You may get a better feel for which you like best by getting to see it firsthand. You're fortunate to have two schools from which to pick!! My feeling is that both will be comparable because of OCNE. I'd personally go with the one close to home because you'll spend so much time commuting for two years, and you'll despise that aspect of it. Just my 2 cents! Good luck, Jen

Hi Taz and Andie, me too! getting excited to start in the fall. I've still got to take micro! gulp! I'm taking it at Rock Creek this summer. I'm signed up for the CPR lifeline course at Barbur Blvd. for the 25th of June if anyone wants to join me! Andie, I totally understand the struggle you've been going through, and understand your 5 year old wanting more time with you. I've a five year old girlie too, and she has no idea how much time I'll be away for the next 2 years. It would be hard to drag it out longer. And it's essential to go for the BSN as so many hospitals are now choosing to not hire RNs without their BSN. Ciao, enjoy the sun! Jen

I'm in for the fall (may 2012 finish), and have four children and a hubby. Good to hear the Seattle schools felt both schools are excellent. I really like finishing sooner myself. All the best Andie, and can't wait to hear what you decide.

Am I crazy?
CuriousMe, sounds like the same thing. I don't know what it's called specifically at Linfield, but that is what they do... 8 students to one faculty meet to discuss what is seen that week in clinicals. This is why this forum is so good... we can compare the finest details and hopefully help andie make this tough decision. Thanks for your insight CuriousMe, and good luck Andie!

Am I crazy?
andie, I am going to Linfield, and only applied to OHSU's acc. program to which I didn't get in. I would have a very hard time in your shoes making up my mind too. For me, I like finishing in 21 months. I feel like the small group discussions that Linfield makes time for each week will be so great for the critical thinking side of nursing. And have you visited Linfield's Sim lab? I think it rivals OHSU, so that isn't the factor. If I were younger, and planning to live out of state in the future, I would want the OHSU name too. When you calculated the costs, did you consider with Linfield that you will then be free to work for a year, and earn money to offset the higher tuition costs? tough choice to make, I don't envy you that. Maybe just put the two names in a hat.... ha ha! Good luck!
