  1. I graduated May 2010, with a BSN from an accredited school. I don't have a job, I haven't been on an interview yet. There are 2 major hospitals in my city. They both don't seem to be hiring even though they post jobs online. It's weird, because they still have job listings from 2009. It's like no one checks the online applications. I took NCLEX already and passed with 75 questions.... I live close to Houston, TX...and I REALLY don't want to move there, but things are not looking optimistic where I am. So, who knows... I need to change my name! I'm an RN!
  2. So, I do a sternal rub, then what? Should I put the bed flat and begin chest compressions? I don't think...or want...to do mouth to mouth... But after the code blue alarm sounds, it should be seconds before people begin to run into the room....so is chest compressions the only thing needed?
  3. Whats the 1st thing you do AFTER hitting the code blue button? Step by step someone please lay it out. Its one of my biggest fears...
  4. Thanks, so much you cleared up alot.
  5. This may be the stupidest thing to ask...seeing as I am a senior nursing student. BUT... When a physician orders Accu Checks AC/HS. That is before meals and bedtime right? Why does it seem nurses do the checks sporadically? Like I don't see them done before breakfast...just lunch...they are not done before dinner either sometimes. And what time do you consider "bedtime" most patients sleep off and on all day during their hospital stay. So, on a 7a-7p shift when should Accu Checks be done the correct way?
  6. Don't give people the wrong answer and be smug about it. This is a place people can ask for help.
  7. Don't listen to these folks talking about the burn. 2nd degree burns form blisters almost right away. Fluid is trapped in those blisters but the burn to the ankles & feet isn't going to cause a LIFE THREATENING fluid deficit. (key in the questions, LIFE THREATENING) (All the choices may cause a fluid deficit) A femur fracture will cause a life threatening fluid deficit, if the femoral artery is broken then you can bleed to death in minutes. If the fracture is not open you won't even notice the bleeding it will be internal. Both scenarios are LIFE THREATENING. Get an H&H STAT! lol I'd bet $50 on my answer and rationale being right.
  8. I bought a HESI book that came with a CD. Here is 1 of the questions I got. A 15 y/o boy had surgery on his right leg due to a four wheeler accident. On the 2nd day post-op which behavior needs further evaluation by the nurse? A. Uses PCA pump frequently B. Spends most of day in room. C. Expresses fear about ability to walk D. Wants to go home and see family. (I picked "expresses fear about ability to walk") Fear is something the nurse should be concerned about RIGHT??? The nurse would see if he needs more education about his injury...RIGHT!? Well that's wrong. HESI seems to think the answer is "B, Spends most of day in room" The rationale behind that is the boy is a teenager and might be overly concerned about what others are thinking of him. SERIOUSLY! The 2nd day post op WHERE EXACTLY DOES HESI think this boy should be? Skipping down the hallways? HESI also said answers the rest of the answers are "normal and not cause for concern" RN's LVN's PLEASE explain this bogas question to me!
  9. Oh please people. Get over it! It was sort of a joke post...if you cannot see the humor or sarcasm in the post then whatever. But calm down people, its really not that big a deal.
  10. LOL...maybe they do say it behind my back...but you can't deny the complete nastiness of this entire post. What else can you call it? All the students are in the same position you're in, there really is no need to fight with people. Its the teachers that get on my nerves.
  11. I was reading through the "what you want to say to your fellow nursing students" thread... Are you surprised at the nastiness from people? In my class we helped each other, sure everyone has their clicks and group of friends but the posts here are weird and generally sound mean. My class helped each other. There were a few really good students who emailed their notes (with info from the book added in) to ALL students in the class. I'm almost done, graduating this May but and I'll say some of you "students" sound like the nurses we sometimes meet who aren't that patient with students.... Scary, that some of you people plan to be nurses. Anyone else thinking the same thing?
  12. I got accepted from a waiting list too. It'll be ok! Just relax now and let yourself be excited!! Nursing school takes ALOT of work....but you'll get there! You start off with small baby steps so don't worry about being thrown in there.
  13. Wow you people sure are ******...Why are you so afride to state your true feelings to your classmates? I'm graduating this May (HESI, is coming!!!) & I enjoyed my class. Sure a few people get on your nerves sometimes but my class generally liked each other. We ALWAYS helped each other. There were a few really good students who emailed the teacher's powerpoints (with info from the book & lecture added in) to ALL students in the class. REALLY helped me pass Med-Surg. I'm glad I didn't go to class with any of y'all you all sound like stuck up-know it all *******!!
  14. You wouldn't happen to go to Lamar Univ? Sounds alot like my class.
  15. Ok, I am suppose to write a paper on a management issue. I got assigned "problems with shift report" HARD!! Can any nurses tell me any problems they are having with giving or taking shift report? Can you tell me some ideas for how you think shift report would be better? Like, if you could change things how would you? I need to state why there is a problem and how I would fix it.... PLEASE HELP!
