What about their poor patients that have to smell them after they come back from break?
  2. Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy? If you want to be happy and the place is as toxic as you describe, then I would look for another job. If you want to be right, then you may be miserable there for as long as it takes for the others involved to leave. Is there a HR office that you can confer with? I would start there and ask for mediation between you and the person spreading gossip against you. IMHO, because the of the risk to your reputation, I would just play nicely and look for another job in a better environment. It may take some time to find something, but you will feel better knowing that the current situation is temporary. Hold your head high and be the best that you can be. Good luck!
  3. I think you would need to know how many units of Pit per ml before you continue the calculation.
  4. Thanks for asking the question OP and for those who answered. I am a student nurse and I have been looking for an answer to the same question. The tips and the docs are great!
  5. I don't understand how these 'professionals' could be so callous! I could understand not knowing what to say, but really? And to the OP, thanks for this thread. As a nursing student, I love hearing the right things to say.
  6. Do you have that response when you watch other people having blood drawn? It could be a somatic response and not a psych response. I was recently in observing in the cath lab and the RN there told me that younger patients tend to 'vagal down' when the artery is punctured for insertion of the catheter. Maybe this is a similar response to what you are experiencing? If it is an actual physical response to them inserting the needle into your vein, then I think you should be fine in school.
  7. How are you doing on the exams? If you are doing well on the exams, then maybe you are just overwhelmed and are selling yourself short. I am going to graduate in December and I keep thinking that there is no way that I am going to be ready by then. But my exam grades and clinical performance are fine and I try to remember that I am not going to be alone on a floor. I will be working under someone else and I'm not afraid to ask questions. Keep your chin up, and study, study, study!
  8. That is great. I hope you don't mind me using it before my next exam.
