  1. I was also thinking you should go to your dean. Good Luck!
  2. Hi, there was a post earlier "Nursing in Sweden" that may help you. I'm currently going through the process in Germany and is a bit of a pain. It's taking months to get my license recognized here and I don't think it will be much easier for you in Sweden. Within the EU it is easy though. As for learning Swedish...unless you learn languages really quickly, I would give yourself atleast a year to 2 before you will be able to have a safe conversation with patients. All the best!!
  3. Like Fiona said a Bundesland is a state...they each have their own laws regarding nursing. Hannover is Niedersachsen's Bundesstadt (capital) Anerkennung is basically to get approval to work as a nurse. Nurses aren't licensed over here but it's basically the same as getting your license. There's also no state licensure exam like the US knows it. They have to do a 3 step exam at their nursing school that consist of a by mouth question/answer, then a written test, then they have to go to a hospital and are tested on their skills/pt. & MD communication and so forth.
  4. I take it back, they don't have 1,800 clinical hours....it's 2,500! ~Jennifer
  5. SillyOleGramma...I love your post. I can relate to everything and I had a good laugh!! Definetely needed that!
  6. Ellenfox-Christie...what part of Germany are you moving to? Do you speak German? When you get here it's a lot of paperwork that you have to deal with. You'll need to translate all of the paperwork you need to send into whatever Bundesland you'll be in. Then they will send you an answer if you are Anerkannt or not. I live in Niedersachsen and have an Associate Degree in Nursing. They said that they would have accepted a BSN as equal to their schooling. If you aren't Anerkannt then it's up to the Bundesland as to how you can become Anerkannt. The biggest thing with them is the clinical hours. I had about 750, they have around 1,800 (I think). Although I had more than twice as much theory as them. I have an interview on Friday but only because of a friend of a friend...otherwise they aren't exactly hurting for nurses...atleast in this area. If you have any other questions, maybe I can help, just let me know. ~Jennifer
  7. Allona, you're in luck if you move to one of these states because they a part of a multi-state licensure compact. Which means if you hold a license in one of them your license is also good for all the other states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennesee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin. If you have no idea where you will be moving, I would start with one of these states! Good Luck, ~Jennifer
  8. Hello, I'm an American RN who worked on a med/oncology unit in VA for a year. I'm now living in Germany (married to a German) and am working on my Anerkennung which should be finished within the next couple of months. My question is, is there any other American RN's who have worked in the USA then Germany? I'm finding it hard to find anyone who can give me some info. or advise. I've heard mixed things about nursing in Germany and would like to find out the differences/similarities. Thanks for any advise! ~jennifer
