Texas Tech FNP 2012
I personally have no idea...it's different doing it all online because for my bsn I met w faculty who really gave u a heads up as to what you're up against. I feel like I'm flying blind here! It's kind of nerve wrecking! I'm surprised nobody has responded to the TT threads w more info, like perhaps someone who has experience applying to the program...I guess we just hafta wait and see!

Texas Tech FNP 2012
Hi everybody! I've applied for Texas Tech's Spring 2012 FNP Program and I was wondering if anybody else has applied too. I got an email when I initially requested information that acceptance/denial letters will be issued in October, and then I saw somehwhere on the TTSON website that they will be issued 4-6 weeks after the deadline, which was Sept 1. I didn't get in contact with anybody in detail from the school regarding my application process because it was pretty self-explanatory and I didn't need much assistance with it, but I haven't heard anything from them and it's making me a little nervous! Has anybody else heard anything? Or does anybody have any information regarding their application process from here? Thanks in advance for any responses! :)

Triplet PVCs or "3 Beat Run of V Tach?"
My textbook ECG Workout by Jane Huff says 3 PVCs equals a run of VT, that's the way I was taught in class as well

is nursing one big 12-hour adrenaline rush??
I don't have much experience as a nurse yet because I just graduated, but I've done my share of clinicals and have worked with dietary departments and as a nurse tech for a few years now, and while the days sometimes can be CHALLENGING, they're not necessarily "heart pumping" like on TV. The only place that I ever hear much for codes is in ER, other than that rarely. You can get into calmer aspects of nursing or you can get into critical areas of nursing, it's entirely up to what you like.

Student nurses do the darndest things
*sigh* so I was doing my critical care rotations through a heart hospital right...I went into the med room that I had been in hundreds of times before to get supplies. I went to open the door to leave and it wouldn't open. At first I thought my classmates has seen me go in and were playing a trick on me and holding the door shut from the outside. So I said, "Come on guys! Let me out!". Nope no answer, not even chuckles from the other side of the door. So I continued to try and pry the door open, you know, with one foot on the wall trying to pull it open with all I've got...Nope...Didn't work. I literally walked to the other side of the med room, sat on a counter and stared at the door, waiting for someone to come it. 10 minutes passed and nothing, so I figured I'd give it one more try...Sure enough, as I'm walking toward the door I missed the BIG HUGE RED "PUSH TO EXIT" SIGN right next to the door in a med room that I had been in many times before! oops!

Can RNs really make this much?
In Texas new grads are starting out at 27...with one year experience there is a pretty hefty jump in hourly rate, at least ten bucks extra per hour

Am I being snotty?
I say go for it...I made sure to tell the lady at HR to add BSN to my nametag because I've seen other BSN nurses with it on their nametags...I worked too hard and payed enough money for it NOT to be on their, granted I feel like a fetus nurse right now who doesn't really deserve the right to use BSN because I feel like I know NOTHING, but I put it on there! :)

Interview Tips for NICU GN position
good luck with your boards first of all alakhaya! my interview went well, i dressed nicely and she pretty much just asked me if I wanted days or nights and the job was mine. i know that's not typical of an interview but later when i went back to sign my official papers, i had to fill out a form with typical interview questions, but it didn't take more than 15 minutes. i'm sure that if you've been summoned for an interview you're definitely a candidate for the position, be confident, be truthful, and be yourself...nobody likes a kiss up

New Grad going into NICU
Wow, I graduated this past December but I was already working as a nurse tech at the same hospital so I just stopped in to see the director for children's services to see if she had any openings and sure enough there was. But when you look online at our hospitals down here there are no positions posted! Talk about discouraging! It's been a struggle for us all to find jobs and that's because we graduated 90-something students. If you'd like to come to Texas, don't look online, just call up the unit directors directly and see what they say.
