New entry-level Masters program at U of A!!
It's a bit overwhelming. There has been a lot of hurry up and wait. I think I have most of the stuff taken care of. I'm just waiting for financial aid to get their act together and to find enough time to get my ID and books. Fortunately I didn't have to relocate. :) When do you start your program Gabby and where did you decide to go? I'm very happy for you!

New entry-level Masters program at U of A!!
Thanks Gabby! If anyone needs any help with anything, I am a Tucson resident. I've only been here 3 years, but I still may be able to help. Also, to anyone still waiting and reading this thread, there is still hope. I've talked with a few ladies currently in the program and many of them were on the alternate list and didn't get in until much later. :)

So how is everybody doing?

New entry-level Masters program at U of A!!
Speaking of which, I was just rejected from the traditional BSN program too. I don't think I have whatever U of A is looking for. Gabby - I'm sorry you decided against U of A for now, but rest assured that Nevada has plenty of good programs too. Plus, you can always reapply if you feel U of A would be better for you.

Still haven't heard a thing. I don't think I will be getting in this year. Did anyone here apply to the traditional BSN program too?

They said they would start selecting alternates pretty soon. They didn't give a specific date, but they said they would evaluate those on the waiting list once they knew how many spots they need to fill immediately. So I take that to mean anytime, beginning tomorrow... maybe. Spring break started this week, so I don't know what kind of hours they keep. You said earlier that you knew some people on the waiting list who got called on, when did they start hearing?

When I dropped off the alternate list acceptance letter they said they only placed about 20 on the list. Also, I called Friday afternoon and they said they had about 20 waiting.

I hope that a lot of people will not accept since there are only 9 sponsorship spots, the programs price tag went up significantly, the letters came out long after many other schools, and there is less than a week to accept. I was also told that they don't have any more alternates then they expect there will be open spots by May. So lets keep positive and hope for good news!

I counted how many people were on the schedule that was hung up in the meeting room. Also, there was a nursing student at my work that is currently in the ABSN program and her teacher, who was also conducting some of the interviews, said there was around 200 people selected. Regardless, it has to be tough cutting 50% of the list. I hope for good news next week.:redbeathe

The interviews were very short since, like Zhongguolong said, they were interviewing nearly 200 people. There were 3 to a group with 2 interviewers per group. They asked very basic questions; mostly questions about personal and academic character. I didn't go to the hospital interviews, but there were a lot of others that did. So will they be deciding and sending out letters this week or next? All they told me was the beginning of March. I've been running out after the postman every day - the suspense is killing me! Good luck to you all!

I am going in at 8:30am too! I selected self-pay - it actually surprises me that there are any hospital positions available. I'll see you there!

So who all ended up applying for the program? I don't think I am going to be able to sleep until I get a reply.

Since it is now part of the graduate college they take both cumulative and prerequisite GPA's into consideration. I can't say what the historical cumulative GPA has been (has to be 3.0), but they were saying that the prerequisite GPA is generally 3.5+/-. I did get your PM, I can't use PM's though, so I couldn't reply. However, if you have the time and resources, I'd say apply. I'd expect the amount of applications this round to be lower since the fees and GPA expectations went up, so you could definitely have a shot.

The sponsorship option may not exist anymore. At the information session they said that they haven't established whether the option is viable here anymore. A lot of the local hospitals are really suffering financially. As for me, I really don't intend staying in Arizona long term so I made it my second option (if it exists). I have no intention of going to Yuma at all. Also, the program will be relatively similar to the BSN, since 2nd degree bachelors and a masters are pretty much the same thing. The extra month or so will be for advanced nursing classes in things like administration and leadership. It will be at least 35k for residents and more for out-of-state students. Since the graduate college takes cumulative GPA into consideration, there is going to be stiffer competition. They emphasized the importance of writing good essays. I can't really think of anything other than that. It sounded like they have a course plan, but are waiting for approval from the college board before the post the rest of the information. Even though it sounds a bit shady, the other graduate level nursing programs at U of A are really good, so I would imagine that some of that will carry over.

After looking at other second degree and MSN programs out there, comparing cost, time, resources, etc, I still applied to the program. I felt a lot better about the changes after attending another information session and after speaking to some nurse friends in the area. I still think I can get a quality education from the U of A, even if the tab is a bit steep. I submitted my application yesterday. Now I wait. *sigh*

I actually relocated a few years ago for the purpose of applying to the ASBN program with the hospital sponsorship. However, after living here for awhile, I want to go back home as soon as I have finished - I am a long ways away from friends and family. I have looked into my options and I find that even though the program now costs more, it is still competively priced with other MEPN's and is still a short program. I have talked with a new graduate of the old program and they don't have anything negative to say about the nursing school. U of A is overall a good school attached to a good hospital. It may be worth it to note for you that Idaho State has an accelerated program in Boise as does U of Utah in SLC, which wouldn't be as a dramatic of a move. I'd be interested in what you decide to do. I'm kind of putting all my eggs in one basket for this school, so I am terrified of the whole process right now.

I am hoping to for Summer 2011, that is, if they ever finish updating the graduate colleges application.

FREE TUITION - FREE BSN - University of Arizona
Congratulations to everyone who was admitted! I hope to be where you are next year. I know this sounds nosy, but what are your stats like (e.g. Undergrad GPA, prereq GPA, work experience, age, etc.)? I really want to be accepted, but I don't know if I reallistically have a chance.

Pathology for NAU - Is it worth it?
Thank you. That actually helps me with my decision a lot.
