Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
We got our results right then, so I am pretty sure they didn't pass. One girl told me she didn't. I felt so badly for her. I totally agree about the HESI book, I got most of my practice online.

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
I've got you all beat age-wise...I am 51. But I am also living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks for all the support! As for flunking the HESI, it is very easy to do. There were quite a few people in my exam who walked out with horrible looks on their faces, and some I overheard on the phone as they were walking out. Just study, study, study. And don't rely on the HESI preparation book, it totally sucked.

The wait for your acceptance into nursing school
I took my HESI last week, sent in the last bit of documentation needed this morning. Did really well on my HESI, got A's in my pre-reqs (Chemistry and A&P) and now it is a waiting game. It is a point based system, I have worked in an intensive care setting for 9 years, just finished a CNA class, and am an EMT...so, I am hoping that all of this helps. You know what? I am still SO unsure of my acceptance. There are so many applicants and so few slots. I am an older student...have raised my family and now it is my turn. I feel like this is my last chance. Keeping my head up...and looking forward. Hoping each day that the mail brings a nice letter. But I have to wait until February or March!!!

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
We were allowed to take breaks but we advised to finish a section before leaving, just in case it kicked you out. I was so glad, because even though I had visited the bathroom before the test (just like my mother used to tell me )...as soon as I got going on the test, my coffee and nerves decided to kick in. So I finished the section I was on, and took a bathroom break. We were not allowed the use of calculators, but I have heard that some schools allow the computer calculator that just does basic math. I would have finished much more quickly if I had been able to use one...but I made sure not to hurry and to double check my answers. Most of the time I made a mistake while practicing was hurrying and carelessness...not reducing far enough, adding instead of subtracting, that sort of thing. So I made myself go slow and steady. I am an older student returning to school after raising my kids, so I feel like this is my one chance...

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
Yes, there are word questions on the math. They are pretty easy and if I remember right, they are multiple choice. I didn't have to take the Biology part, but there are 25 questions in that as well. And I have been told to know your kingdoms, DNA/RNA, transcription, organelles, meiosis and meitosis. And, yes -- you can take the test in any order you want. I saved math for last ...ironically, I did really well. We were not allowed calculators, so ask for several pieces of paper if you have to do them manually. That way you won't have to ask for more and disrupt your concentration.

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
There were 50 math problems, and 25 each A&P and Chemistry. If you aren't taking that part, then the only things left are 50 each grammar, reading comprehension and vocabulary. You are most welcome -- let us know how you do! Allison

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
There aren't that many conversions on the HESI. Mostly fractions, proportions and percentages. Some word problems as well. Most of them are multiple choice, but there are some fill in the blank math questions as well. I am totally math challenged -- studied and took the practice tests multiple times. If I got a question wrong, I did it again until I got the right answer. My problem is that I try to make math too hard. Once I learned to calm down and think about what I was doing, it came much easier. I actually got a 96% on math, so I am really happy. Make sure you know how many mL in an ounce, roman numerals and military time. There are several questions about those. I had to take the chemistry and A&P as well. The A&P was harder for me, as I have only taken the first part of it in school, and there were some questions about things covered in A&P II. Chemistry was hard for me as well, but they were basic questions if you understand Chemistry. I got an 85 on A&P and an 80 in Chemistry. I would like to see what I got wrong on those, so I could study those areas more thoroughly. The vocabulary and reading were easy for me, but I have always been pretty good at those subjects. Just make sure to go slowly and read the questions a couple of times. Make sure you know what there, their and they're are, and that you "lay" down. Most important -- calm yourself down. Tell yourself that you have studied, and the rest is up to faith. Have faith in yourself, don't second guess -- you will be fine. It will be over and done with before you know it. Do the hard part before the test and learn the material. I wish I had found this site before I took the HESI because I would have known what parts of chemistry and A&P to study! Good luck!!! P.S. Don't use the HESI study guide for A&P or Chemistry. Worthless. The math isn't that great either. Go to the link at the beginning of this thread. much more helpful.

Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!
Here are a couple of sites that helped me a lot! caringforyou.net/HESI Study Recommedations.pdf And...it is spelled incorrectly but that is the website caringforyou.net/Hesi Study Guide.pdf I took the math tests every day...looked up all the chemistry and anatomy study points. Took the HESI yesterday -- got a 90 overall! I am so relieved. I have been dreading this for months. Anyway, study hard and best of luck.
