  1. I know that the job market right now is doom and gloom, but this link should give you some hope from article "Health care, tech jobs to be in demand in Colorado this year, data says" Check out the article: http://www.denverpost.com/dontmiss/ci_19693140 Also check out "Nurses Needed". It points out that by 2020 there is a forecast for a real shortage: http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/442/ I am currently in RN school and hope that the forecasting is true!
  2. Izzy11, was it hard to even find a job in LTC? Do you feel that it was an advantage to have your BSN vs ADN to get a job in LTC? How long did it take to get a job after graduating? I am going to school and of course am in the same boat of worrying about job placement. Congrats on the job you do have, I am sure that the experience will lead to more opportunities in the future!
  3. What kind of GPA do you need to get into the program? I am guessing that it is pretty competitive since they only accept 36 a year? Thanks to anyone with feedback!
  4. Do they count anything like if you have healthcare experience (I am currently a CNA)? I have a GPA of 3.25 in sciences (3.4 overall in pre-requisites) and a 3.5 GPA of in my previous bachelor's degree.
  5. Just wondering how difficult it is to get into Metro State's bachelors of nursing program (accelerated)? I am curious to know what kind of GPA you need? Thanks to anyone who has any info on this!!
  6. Has anyone worked for BrightStar in the Denver, Colorado area? I have an interview coming up to work with them as a CNA and was wondering if there was any feedback.
  7. Thanks for all the great info Sanddollar!
  8. Was the lab kit costly, if you don't mind me asking?
  9. How does the online option work for these classes with labs? Do you do a simulated online lab? I can't imagine how you would do the dissections....
  10. I am in the same boat. I received the email last January as well. Question: does anyone know what percentage of out of staters they allow into the CU program? Someone told me it was a pretty high percentage compared to other schools. I live in Colorado and was just curious. The wait is killing me! I guess we are all feeling anxious. Good luck to everyone!
  11. TristanT I see you used to work in the corporate Creative Department. I am in the same boat! I am a graphic designer in the corporate environment trying to get into nursing school. I keep it hush hush around the workplace and am living a double life, part corporate creative part nursing pre-req student. Just thought I would make a quick reply because I haven't met anyone until now in that same situation. Best of luck to you! Glad you found a job.
  12. QUESTION FOR BRIGHTEN: So with the camera did you photograph specimens you could see with the naked eye? Just curious. I brought a camera to A & P and it seemed to help with the anatomic models.
  13. Thanks for the tip of the cliff notes, I will be using them!

I have been wondering the same things. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  15. Has anyone graduated from this program or currently a student? How hard is it to get in? I live in Golden, Colorado, and would be willing to commute for part of the program and then rent for a year down in Colorado Springs.
  16. Does anyone know about American Sentinal University nursing program? I saw that it was CCNE accredited. Is anyone out there going there or have graduated from there? Do most Denver area hospitals hire grad from there?
  17. I just had my first day of class today. It only meets once a week on Saturdays and goes for 5 hours! The lecture was pretty basic this week. She really just read from her Power Point slides. We took swabs from around the building that we will look at next week in lab. We do have a few assignments lined up to do which should be fun to work on and interesting. Our instructor emphasized that we should have taken general biology before this class. I haven't officially taken it. We had the option to test out of it, so I studied the book and barely tested out of it. I hope this doesn't put me behind too much. I do have the biology book I studied from around for reference. Good luck to all taking micro this semester!
  18. The recording of lecture is a great tip! I am going to go out and find a digital voice recorder (around $40) tonight to be ready for my Saturday class.
  19. Sand Dollar: from reading your posts I have no doubt you will get into the best school for you and do great! Don't beat yourself up too much. I am feeling the same way about getting into nursing school right now. I may get CNA certified as well...
  20. The only one I know of that is still doing wait list is Front Range Community College. I would be curious if anyone knew of others that were on wait list.
  21. How do you like being a CNA? I have been at a desk job for 13 years and I would love to get out of a cube. Was it easy to get a job right out of CNA school? Do you work in a hospital setting?
  22. Yeah, the itunes is pretty cool. It isn't super detailed, but it gives a good overview. I have been listening to it when I am in the car. Have you started your class yet? I start next Saturday. I am curious if the instructor will have us start at chapter 1.
  23. Are you working in a health field career right now? I work full time as a graphic designer and I am thinking I need to work as a CNA for a while in order to get into nursing school. I volunteer at the hospital, but only once a week.
  24. Congrats on straight A's! I hope I can do the same when I re-take my A&P classes. You should definitely be able to get into school now!
  25. Just wondering, is there a difference between NLN and NLNAC accreditation? Thanks to all who have posted on this thread, it has been helpful to read through.
