  1. thanks for the input!! now Ihave an idea how to handle the situation when it happens again
  2. I work on the same unit every day and they was short staffed so they was going to pull me to another floor that I have never been on and I stated that I was going to need someone to give me some info about the residents.I told them I would not put residents or my future in danger by trying to care for residents I do not know anything about.I am sure the care books are available but honestly taking time to read all that info is not possible before you need to start providing care. Thanks for all the halpful advice available on this great site.:)
  3. Well I added another class so I have 17 credit hours now.I added Sociology so I guess i will be pretty busy this fall :):).it is on Monday Wednesday Friday FROM 1:00 TO 2:15 P.M.

  6. Thanks I needed a laugh this morning after the night I had.I get off at seven and at six had lady possibly have a heart attack so that slowed everything down plus it still bothers me for my residents to get sick or fall. :)And I did not check but i am sure i made a few of them type of post but i am now very happily employed at a nursing home cleaning poop every day (still want to make more money)
  7. I am a 34 year old male and i am just sarting my pre-reqs Tuesday.I am only starting with two classes to help me get used to being in school and learning how to study. My classes are Public & Private Communication SPCH-145 and cis 135 computer information
  8. Iwork in a dementia unit myself and that is way too many to have up and especially with you doing a med pass. The only way I see you being able to give the quality care that each of your residents deserve is start earlier.I am sure some of them wake up ealier than five so dress the ones that are awake.I hope that helps we have around 12 to get ready and that is with two working on it.the nurse does med pass at breakfast.I am a new cna too but if i can give you any more help just ask or if you just want to talk about what an interesting and heart breaking job it is.this has been a very good learning experience in a short amount of time.:)
  9. I took my test 4-17 and got on registry 4-23 so i am now a cna yay!!! now i can get my dollar an hour raise (still not enough):):)
  10. I took my test saturday and now just have to wait on the results.I hope it does not take very long because i get $1.00 an hour raise after i get on registry.:):)
  11. cangrats I am glad everything is going the way you want it to go.I am so happy to see everyone succeed in the career they love. I know i am going to love nursing i love being a cna now it makes me feel so good to know what i do during the day makes someones life a little better.:)
  12. I am 34 and just starting my pre-reqs i finished my cna class in march and got a great job on an alzheimer unit which is already giving me a tremendous about of knowledge and satisfaction. I am going to take my time to get my pre-reqs finished i am looking at possibly spring but more than likely fall 2012.That is my plans so i hope it all works out that way.I thought i would share my story to let you know you are not alone.:)
  13. :)well i still love it after six days straight. It does make me sad to see how alzheimers affects these great people but if i do my best to help them then that is all that can be done.I am learning so much very quickly on how to deal with them. I wanted to say to the people that think c.n.a. positions just wipe butts that is completely wrong yes wiping butts is one of the many things we do and i am proud to be a cna as i progress my knowledge to become a R.N.(that will never be too good to do any aspect of a cna job):)
  14. :) I did my orientation yesterday and started my shift last night and it went great.Just wanted to drop a quick line letting everyone know how it went. Thanks for all your good thoughts.:)
  15. :) I am officially a pre nursing student.I have alot of different emotions going.I just finished my cna course take state test April 17th start a great new job as a cna tomorrow.I am only taking one class this summer and taking two or three in the fall just to get used to school again on top off a sixty hour a week job. Since i will be on here pretty regular i will give alittle background on me.I am 34 year old male that has not been in school in alot of years (lol i dont even remember how to study)so this is going to be a fun challenge that i am going to put everything i have got into thisand know i will succeed.:)
  16. I know i am lucky compared to alot of the jobs i could have got.All walking and using bathroom on their own is alot showers in every room is nice. The rooms all coming out into a big common area and the dining area right in the unit so the residents stays right in the common area or the courtyard ,or their rooms. You can see the whole unit from nurses station.:clpty::dncgbby:thanks for the well wishes
  17. :dancgrp::anpom:i got the job i was hoping for at a ltc dementia unit the shift i wanted.Iam so happy this place is amazing in its design,(it is a new unit) I am so excited i go for orientation wed.it is like a seperate facility with a big common area and dining area and room on each side with a big courtyard surrounded by the building so noone can escape showers in every room no lifting all are mobile and use restroom on their own (with the occasional accident)
  18. I am turning 35 in july and just finished getting my C.N.A. course and starting my pre-reqs in May so you are not alone.I had the doubts about starting out so old and being a male but relized i am old enough to really commit to this more than i would have at a younger age.:)
  19. I checked very closely on this what it is she went to school and got certified to do the skills portion because not very many places can do them. She teaches the skills and then checks us off on them going by the state guidelines the only difference is we have to get checked of on all 21 skills.:) thanks for being concerned btw i am in Illinois.
  20. i finished my class at community college now i go take written test in april.I am glad that i dont have to do skills test then because instructor is state certified tester and checked me off on all 21 skills. Now getting ready to start taking pre-reqs for the nursing program:)
  21. cna classes are going great we are donig labs now and start getting skills checked off tomorrow so by march 8th my skills portion of the comptency test will be done and then i will just need to take written test.so that is great i like the fact my instructor will be the one doing the skills portion of the state test :)
