stinking of cigarette smoke
Corvette Guy, Thank you for your understanding. I applaud you and thank you for the job you did in the service. I agree that you have the right not to be around second hand smoke. I think you might be right about the forum I am sorry for the way I have stated my opion on this matter and hope that I have not played down the sacrifices made by the thoundsands of people who have died defending the freedoms we hold now.

stinking of cigarette smoke
I don't understand why non-smokers feel that they have the right to tell others what they can and can not do. This is the United States if you don't like what I am doing you have the absolute right to be elsewhere. Laws are voted on in this country. I predict that smoking will never be against the law because, guess what, smokers vote. We can't smoke in public buildings unless they are bars (FL law) in some places we have to walk to designated areas. Now you want to tell me we just can't smoke anywhere but at home, never happen. Don't get me wrong I don't like smoking and I want to quit and I agree that smokers should try to refrain when at work, but I really hate when people I don't know feel they have the right to make me feel like dirt because I do something they don't like. I am not saying you are doing this but if you read the posts here smokers are made out to be idiots and rude. We are not but that is the image that nonsmokers always seem to want to stick to smokers. I think this thread should be locked and we should to agree to disagree because we will never see eye to eye on the smoking issue

And you also have the right to get up and walk away if someone is smoking around you. Hey I know you could nicely ask the smoker if they would put put out the cigarette because you are allergic or whatever. I know that I would put mine out if I was asked to (nicely). And yes I smoke. And to the poster who said that fast food was not served in hospitals, don't bet on it. In the main hospital in my area there is a Wendy's, Chick-fil-a, a pizza place, and many doughnut shops located through out the buildings. So I guess hospitals do serve fast food.

You know this is starting to remind me of the movie "Demolition Man" where everything that was not good for you was illegal. We are allowing the gov't to take away so many of our personal freedoms for our "own good" that if this keeps up we won't have any left to defend. At that point we may as well live in Iraq.

Long and Interesting Day (long Vent)
I took my 13 year old DD to the ED today for suden onset headaches and eye pain. She has 2 underlying Neuro conditions CP and Sz's. Her headaches started yesterday before a Sz and then had another 1 a few hrs later. I gave ibuprophen and tylenol and she was fine when she went to bed. Well this morning as soon as she woke up she started complaining of severe(sp) eye pain and a headache. So I called her Doc and the earlist opening they had was for 16:00 they suggested I take her to the ED. Well after I signed in we had to wait over an hour before the desk clerk called us to register. Apparently the have you register before triage here, seems backwards to me because we had to another half hour to be triaged. While the desk clerk was checking her info she looked down and asked if I was really wanted her seen for her headache or If I had another reason I wanted her seen.:smackingf I was really stunned by the question did she think I was making it up or what. So we sit there after triage (many hrs) well at 16:00 the CSM told us that it would be several more hrs before they could get us a room. By this time her eye and head felt better and I decided to go home, get home and as soon as we walk in the door she grabs her eye and starts crying that her eye hurts. Call my mom and we decide it might be alleriges and to try Visine A. So I went to the pharm to gets some and discover that they had messed up my sons Meds. So I spent about 1 hour there while they fixed this. Anyway when I got home 2100 I put the drops in her eye and they worked like a charm, 10 mins later she is sleeping so soundly she is snoring. Any way that was my day hope yours was better. Sorry the post was so long, just needed to vent.:angryfire Missy

Drug testing a babysitter
Thanks to all who replied to my question, a lot of valid points were raised. I am starting the process of looking for sitter. My friends and family work and if I want to go to NS I need a sitter for befroe and after school care 3 days a week. Thank you for the suggestions about using an agency. I hadn't even thought of this.I have never need a sitter other than family on the weekends before, and for this my mother watched them. I would never hire someone I did not trust but trust only goes so far, these are my babies and I would do what ever it takes to keep them safe. I did not realize that there may be legal issues involved and now that I know this will use an agency or a local day care center. Thank you all for your help. Missy B

Drug testing a babysitter
I am about to hire a babysitter and want her to take a drug test. I was wondering how long marijuana(sp) stays in a persons urine. If this person passes the test how long at least will she have been clean? I know sounds like a weird question but I just don't know that much about drug testing.

CNA exam, do you have to go to school first?
go to http://www.experioronline.com and look up your state if you can take the test without training the information will be listed as well as what you will be tested on. The site lists Florida, Arkansas, New York, and Arizona. But check your state just incase.

CNA state board
I am in the same boat you are. I took the CNA class many years ago and never had a chance to work, family reasons. I am taking the boards on the 29th of March and have not had any refresher. I can and do practice on my husband and family, my next door neighbor is an E.R. nurse and she is helping me with a few things also. I bought a CNA textbook from Amazon.com and use it to refresh my knowledge. I don't know about videos but try to practice on friends and family. By the way did you take the practice test on the experior web site? Also talk to any CNA's or nurses you might know they can give lots of great advice. When is your test? Good luck :balloons: . Please post when you have your results and I hope this helps.

artifical nails off..angry nurse
Will someone please explain how polish alone causes infection. I would think that if you are using universal precautions and good hand washing technique the chances of spreading an infection would be greatly reduced wether you had long or short, fake or real nails.

Most dreaded Dr.'s orders
Lets please remember that nurses come here to vent their frustrations to people who understand what the problem is. I too am overweight but I can tell you that I understand where the poster is coming from I wouldn't want to work on a "skanky" person either but I would do and then hope that I would have someone to vent to. Now to get back to the levity, please more stories I am learning a lot. One question though does it take you guys a while to be able to drink milk and eat pancakes again after giving the milk and molasses(sp?) enema?

I need advice about daughter's cp and puberty.
I don't know if this is the right forum or not but any advice would be very helpful. My daughter is 12 years old and has c.p., she also has failure to thrive epilepsy and ADHD. She is starting to develope breast buds and pubic hair I am worried that she may have her first peorid at any time. She is cognitvely about four years old and she only weighs 64 pounds, not potty trained so she wears pull ups and she freaks out at the site of blood. I would like to know if there is anything I or her Dr. could do to prevent this from happening. I have heard that Depo is unreliable in preventing mensturation. I have also heard that being underweight can delay mensturation. If any one has any ideas please post I could not find any info on the web regarding this issue. Thank you.

Salaries in Florida
I am a student working on my prereqs I will enter the program next May. My husband supports a family of four, one of whom is a special needs child, on 13 dollars an hour. I am a full time student and full time mom, we have a house and 2 cars (both paid off). The money can get very tight every month and I am in school now so our future will be better. I am looking forward to making 19.00 an hour when I finally start working. This will more than double our family income. If you don't like the salary here quit bit**ing about and either 1) don't move here, 2) move away from here; or 3) try living within your means But that is my opinion
